We all know the story of how the big three got their sports watches, don’t we? All designed by the same guy, Gérald Genta, in the 1970s? Well that’s not exactly true-at least not for the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. The Vacheron store staff here are so accommodating enough that they even take time to explain their watches even if i am just looking around. :) Patek stores, nahhhh.

I had a similarly positive experience at the Panerai boutique in Florence. I was CLEARLY not in the proper tax bracket to be a serious buyer but was welcomed and treated as if I were looking for a tourbillon! When I can afford a Panerai new, I will make the trip back to Florence just for that treat.

Every watch boutique has had somebody saunter in wearing a hoodie, jeans & trainers and then part with some serious (buy a car) coin on a luxury watch. Patek is possibly a bit stuffy about it but VC and AL&S know they have a following among tech nerds. JLC too.

Same with IWC and Vacheron for me, they took out a 100K plus minute repeater just so I could hear the chime. But I will never buy a breitling, they treated me horribly, acted as if I was a thief. Asked what my budget was and I said was I was just looking, then proceeded to quietly call security.

My uncle had a 222, however I was too young to know what it was and he kept it in pristine condition - after his passing, his son sold the watch. I would've happily bought it from them, but they had no idea that I would even be interested. Lesson: Always keep an eye on your family's wrists.

VC is the subtle lithe big cat at the top of the industry. Some of their designs are so gorgeous you just want to eat them. The name is imposing yet just rolls off the tongue. And the Maltese cross motif just knocks it out of the park- Trendy in almost a goth or heavy metal style, yet also elegant enough to be worn by QE2 and other royalty. The perfect Watch brand of the moment.

I recently inherited some pocket watches form my grandfather, and a couple are early VCs (though they're from before when it was just called Vacheron Constantin, one is marked "Vacheron & Constantin" along with "Charles Vacheron" and the other is "Abraham Vacheron Girod")

I love the little VC logo close to the "lugs" beyond the 5 hour marker on the 222. As always, such a stunning production value in the watchfinder videos! Glad that the Overseas came to be, even without Genta's touch.

Great content! I’d love to see something on the history of the Omega constellation line. It’s not as appreciated as the speed masters and sea masters but it carries great heritage for the brand and the latest collection with ceramic bezels are a real jump forward in terms of design for the collection

The Vacheron Constantin Oversees is the most beautiful sport watch in the world. It is more beautiful than the Rolex Submariner, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. I like the VC Matese cross-case, Maltese cross bracelet, and the transparent case back with the sta rotor.

IWC are weird, I don’t know why they did that. The Ingenieur Jumbo is a magnificent watch, if theyd continued making that one variant at least the ‘holy trinity’ of Audemars, Patek and Vacheron would probably expand to include IWC and be the ‘holy quartet’

considering the whole package, history, finishing, technics and artistic design and of course character, no other brand can compete the humble VC. making comparison of VC with other watches, of course with utmost respect to all of them, is comparing old money and new money. just take a close look to all timepieces VC is creating and compare with other top brands, you can see its miles away in quality, just i can feel some masters have put their hearts in their job to finish it like that, specially Les Cabinotiers that are non comparable with any other watch on the earth. other top brands are using marketing technics and ....., but forget marketing and price there is no rival for VC over all and considering total timepeices. i just wish this brand was kept in family.

I like the VC Overseas 2000V. It's clean, it's simple, yet very distinct. Extremely well wearable. In the world of AP, Patek & co, definitely one that seems a little underrated.

The blue dial version of the QP was mesmerizing in person, saw it at the boutique 6 months ago and placed an order at the local AD but still no luck. Not willing to pay full retail at the boutique though.

Intruigingly, the buler astromaster (a cheap but swiss made watch) was released in 1970 and had a very similar appearance to the royal oak which arrived 2 years later.....

This loan watch is a preproduction model so it’s not quite up to the usual Vacheron Constantin standards-if only mildly! Watches are ordinarily seen warts and all.

That sucker has some definite battle scars too. But what's amazing to me is how poorly this watch is finished. This could have been finished in an East German machine shop.

3:10 how did that scratched Maltese cross on the dial pass inspection? That would drive me nuts. Plus it looks like it was stamped out without finishing. Several other little flaws on the dial too. It’s a killer watch regardless.

I have a VC and it was thought to be genuine by a London dealer but a London auction house thought they were unsure and I was told to get full verification I would have to send it to that dealer. The cost was £1000 just to look at it. A big gamble. Thoughts please

No direct design connection between the 222 and any OS...Two different integrated bracelet watch designs by two different designers but both trying to follow the Genta path of designing high horology steel sport watches with integrated bracelets... Nevertheless the new OS gen 3 is a very sophisticated and gorgeous timepiece.

The VC is highly (that is beyond my grasp in my lifetime) outstanding yet I am dreaming on a GP Laureato , chronograph and date,blue dial,42mm rose gold case with a matching blue Crocodile deployant clasped strap.CV20-1 probably won’t get me but the horological bug I fear my immune system cannot withstand!
