So many a night I find myself listening to the narration for much longer than I had intended just because I am so captivated by the talent of the reader. I've listened to other readers and have been able to fall asleep quickly because I don't get so wrapped up in the stories the way I do when listening to this reading. I am so glad I came across this great talent. Even if I am a little tired in the morning from staying awake to hear more! Lol

The Reading is immaculate and is very rare to find. It captivates you and draw in your emotions very good.

Crisp and clear reading. The intonation perfect. Obviously his French is excellent too. Absolutely thrilling as of Holmes' adventures are, I think perhaps this is what Sir Conon Doyle wanted the reader of the Valley of fear to feel and experience. Well done sir

I don't love this novel as much as other Sherlock adventures, but listening to your interpretation of the characters (particularly, Holmes himself 😍) really makes it worth it and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I'm so glad to hear the Sherlock Holmes stories instead of reading them. Though I am an "academic," the older writing style does not lend itself to "reading." I believe since Watson is the narrator that to have the stories actually read is a boon to the genre. As Jeremy Brett is the consummate film Sherlock Holmes, so Gregg Wayland is the voice of the stories in audio. I've been so happy listening to the stories and happy to see how well the film versions reflect the original works of Sir Doyle. I should be listening for a long time and have re-listened to a few thus far. Thank you so much for an intelligent and excellent voice for these works.

Doyle was given the idea for the backstory here by real happenings here in America. The roots of the story lie in the Anthracite region of the northern coal fields and the miners struggling there for a decent living.The head of the Pinkerton Detective Agency , Alan Pinkerton, spoke with Doyle about this underlying story during an ocean voyage. The real story is about the "Molly Maguires. Twenty innocent men were hung illegally by the coal combination , a corporation , in a Pennsylvania County jail and tried by the state of Pennsylvania. We here in coal country call it ," The day of the rope".

Ooh, love this! Superbly narrated as always. That ending is the perfect hook. ❤

Fruit cakes! I'm so sorry. I was forced to give up making them years ago when exotic fruits preserved and imbued with West Indies rum became too dear. No one any longer understands fruit cakes. I miss them, too.

I grew up in the 70s in America n watched a lot of late-night black n white TV basil Rathbone has always been Sherlock Holmes to me, until now.

Mr Wayland Sir, I love your readings of classic literature I know for certain I will not have to suffer the dreadful new style pronunciations of well established names or places ( as an example i recently heard Mount Vesuvius pronounced as Mont Vess-u-vuss...sigh..) I love that you say shonnn for the word Shone & not Showwn as most narrators are wont to say. & if i hear another person say " exspecially" i will scratch my nails down the Blackboard! I do understand our American cousins pronounce words differently but i object to using " Drug" as in the past tense of " To Drag or Dragged" for me Drug is a pharmaceutical preparation.. I may seem pedantic but having taught English Language & Literature, incorrect English Grammar just makes my teeth freeze. So many people cant differentiate between their ' there & their' Im not a crusty old git, im very laid back & welcome most modern ' Thingies' or ' Whatnots' Its just bad grammar & pronounciation that get me climbing the walls.. Its why i love hearing you read Its pure pleasure.
