On July 22nd and 23rd, 2011, Penn Rail Videos spent some time on the Valley Railroad. Of course planning this trip back in April, we did not anticipate it being one of the hottest weekends to date in Connecticut. On Friday the 22nd, it reached 102 degrees Fahrenheit. On Saturday, it would ONLY be 98! Aside from the heat, we still managed to get some great video of this fabulous operation. Penn Rail Videos was even invited to ride in the cab of #40 for one of the excursion runs, and boy are we glad we did. A special thanks goes out to the Valley Railroad for making it one of the best tourist train operations in the eastern USA. We are proud to be loyal fans and supporters of the railroad. I did the "Your Hand on the Throttle" in April 2010, and got to operate #97 for an hour, it was great. I believe it has been temporarily retired awaiting boiler tube replacement. I live in AZ now, I'm not a fan of CT or the weather, but this place is the one good thing in the state! I LOVE IT!

I'd love to go there this fall, but may have to wait until next - depending on how work goes too - I'm using up my "train trips" with the wife, saving for the Lerro Charters in November.

@CSX6000 if you do, the steam train is great and all, but be sure to chase one of their freight trains, powered by GE centercabs.

@boberttrain831 97 is down for it's rebuild, basically like the 2317 at Steamtown. Once the 3025 is completed, #40 will be going in for some minor work of its own. Then work on 97 will commence. The Valley always likes to have at least 2 steam locomotives operable, in case on breaks down or is in for a boiler wash. Don't worry, 97 will hit the high-iron once again!

@Firrboxfryup They run about a mile past Deep River, then reverse back to Deep River to run-around the train.

Nice video, i just made my first chase up there. I love a good alco steam locomotive, but man i would take #3025 over #40 any day.
