This is one of my grails watches that I've had my eye on for about 2 years and I never had the courage or funds to buy this watch so I quit thinking of as it was a waste of time. My girlfriend, out of left field, surprised me with this watch and it is absolutely stunning. I'm going to wear this watch until I die because of the watch itself but also because of the sentimental value.

I bought this watch this morning at Jomashop. The champagne face with the leather strap was marked down to 325. I had the $20 discount - so 305.00 plus tax (20.00) and free shipping - 326.00 in total. Great deal

I've had one for 6 years. Looks like roadkill as I use it as my beater watch for hiking and mountain climbing, so it's been bashed against many a rock and cliffside, and scraped by brushes and tree branches. Still ticks real good though, and is still keeping +3 seconds a day despite all the abuse and lack of any maintenance. Will definitely get another when this one finally bites the dust.

This is my #1 for best entry level watch. Love it. Except for the depth rating.

I absolutely LOVE my Hamilton Khaki King. My only complaint is the water resistance. If I could safely take this underwater (casual swimming) then it would be PERFECT in my eyes.

When you look of all the field watches out there , nothing can compete with this little Swiss Khaki King 2. Just a simple but seriously solid piece with a damn good movement.

I do regret selling my old king, it was the first ever swiss made watch i ever owned, and i bought it for an absolute steal. Amazing review, as usual, compare it to the seiko alpinist!

I’ve tried this watch on with a leather strap and it looks real good.

I've always appreciated the day/date complication at the 12 o'clock position. Not just for legibility and the fact that it's a bit different. But also because of all the cardinal points on a watch face, understanding that 12 o'clock is dead top/vertical relative to the other markers has never struck me as any particular challenge. I've never quite understood the criticism that an omitted 12 o'clock marker is any sort of demerit. Kind of like how I intuitively understand that a drink glass needs to be oriented upright when carried about; it's one of things in life where if it gives you difficulty, then perhaps you have other things more pressing to worry about than what's missing from the face of a wrist watch. :) I do appreciate your noting the 49mm lug tip to lug tip however. As a smaller-wristed enthusiast, it's forced me to re-think my attraction to this otherwise modestly proportioned field watch.

My favorite watch i own, my daily beater. I love how slim this watch is for an automatic field watch. This watch wears so comfortably!

My wife’s Tissot I bought her at JOMA shop stopped running a mere week after she started wearing it. Sent it in, got it back in about 6 weeks. It works. No big deal.

Just purchased one of these about 2 weeks ago at an AD in Montreal. It is my first AD purchase and my first swiss watch purchase. Overall I find the khaki king an absolute banger of a watch, and I'm looking forward to many years of wearing it. The two minor complaints I have (as many have stated) there being no ar coating, which makes it hard to see in some lighting. And the lume is a little on the weak side, but I suppose I am used to the excellent lume on my seikos. All things considered I love it, and I'm still in the honeymoon phase with the watch and so far it's only losing a few seconds a day. Anyways, another great video as always Jodi!

Bought mine (black face & bracelet) from Jomashop in 2024 at $519. But so far I am thrilled. Day four after initial setting with no additional setting and it is at +2 seconds. Fantastic. No AR coating to scratch up is a fine compromise. I retired two years ago and, happily, the day plus date complication is welcome by me.

I love my Khaki King! Bought it as a treat for my first salary, and it's so versatile! Leather, NATO, or bracelet, 3 completely different watches!

Single best value watch I ever bought. I think the angles of the dial are even more pronounced on the champagne dial which I have. Paid £330 on Jura Watches UK, and deffo among my favourites.....

Underrated watch. One of my favourite watches.

The Hamilton Khaki Field line are great entry level watches. I have been wearing a new 48mm date version since mid-June. It has its issues but I've grown to love it, as an every day watch.

I am so incredibly glad you uploaded this review. I own the Khaki King II and it is one of my favorite watches that I own; everything is almost perfect on it. The dimensions, WR, Crystal, Movement, Size, Bracelet, etc. I was a bit iffy on jumping on the Khaki King II because i usually just see reviews of the Khaki Field series and seldom see reviews of the King series, but I am so glad that I did.

I love this watch. Last month I bought my first Hamilton watch from Jomashop - the Khaki King with the beige dial and leather strap. I chose this model specifically because of the location and design of the Day/Date feature. The only downside is that the case is not in the 42-45mm range as it looks really small on my 8" wrist. Aside from the conservative case size, I have nothing else to critique about this watch.

HA, the first time i beat you to it! I bought and got mine just 3 weeks ago. I allways loved the design and the full day-date at 12. Alought i was kind of not so much in love as i thought i would be for the first couple of days, it now really grew on me. I really would have liked if you would have shown it on one or two leather strap because i think this watch MASSIVLY profits form a brown leather strap in the looks department.

Really digging all of the new camera angles and close ups! It really makes the display of the piece so much more intimate.

OK How much do I love the Hamilton Khaki King, I put it on a Blue nato strap because of my 21.59 CM wrist size and I just can't take it off. I was going to wear my Rolex Milgauss for the weekend, but I decided not to and I still have the hamilton on. I love the date and day function and the placement on the dial.

I called Hamilton and they said that they do cover jomashop warranty. But them only no one else that isn't and authorized dealer. My 38mm khaki is getting service by them now

I have one of these that I bought in 2013, and I love it. I wore it for a while, put it away, then found it when I was packing stuff for a move we did in March, 2019. I have wore it since then, and enjoyed it all over. I did do some damage to it, I caught the crown and pulled it out. It is fixed, but the original crown with the “H” is gone. Oh well. The jeweler I took it to said the watch is worth the repair cost. A cleaning and repair was $140.00.

I’ve owned one for the past 5 years. Reliable, accurate, and comfortable. Agree that the polished bezel picks up the occasional scuff mark. Unfortunately it has been at the Swatch service center in New Jersey since January! Unlike Seiko, Swatch service/repairs are affordable at about $120 USD regardless of the problem.

I have the Champagne dial version... Yes, it has some shortfalls such as, the 50m water resistance and the average lume. All annoying for a field watch. However, it is a handsome watch and it keeps good time and it presents, overall great value. Thank you for the vid, I now realise how much I underestimate this watch...😀

I’ve had mine since August 2017. It’s certainly a scratch magnet but from a distance you can’t tell. I also wear it doing everything and it’s still as accurate as day 1.

I love the location of the day/date, agree entirely with you abou thte AR and the shiny bezel.

Thank Jody! I have the champagne dial version and it's one of my favorite watches. Like someone else mentioned, the champagne dial not the most legible dial/hand combo, but its beauty offsets its limitations. If I were a one watch guy (which I'm definitely not!) the Khaki King would be in the running right next to a SARB (or an Explorer if money were no object). I've considered the black dial King but I still can't bring myself to buy two of the same watches, even if the dial is a different color (however, a SARB 033 may end that, as I love my 035). I love the size and fit of the King. In fact, I wore it today on canvas and it's been getting a lot of wrist time this summer. The extended power reserve is great because I can wear it every third day without having to resent anything other than the seconds, which by the way, run very accurately.

Hi Jody, I just pulled the trigger for one on Jomashop. It's been on my radar for some time and at $375 on the bracelet I decided to give it a go. I like the KK's overall design and prominent day/date. I wish it had AR coating and more micro-adjusts, but my only real concern is how it will wear on my 6.75 inch wrist. I've owned the Hamilton khaki field in steel bracelet before and sadly I was forced to part with it...the watch was superb...I loved it esp. for the eta movement ..it honestly was a very high quality movement you would easily be able to compare it too other Swiss watched costing much more. I was proud to own and wear a HAMILTON WATCH...HAMILTON IS A QUALITY NAME FROM A GREAT COMPANY. P.s. I wasn't paid too say these things nor have I received any compensation for said honest appraisal of the KAHKI SERIES WATCHES... DEFINATELY the best quality for dollar watch I ever owned...loved the video..great work.

Good to watch such a positive review on the long lugged KhakiKing. I have the champagne dial version and love it. All things considered a bit of a bargain, but also maybe a gateway drug to a serious Hamilton habit.

I bought one of these 6 weeks ago. My first automatic mechanical watch and I'm massively happy. Good looks and accurate, too.

I have mine now for 2 months and it is keeping everything else in the watch box. Mine came with the brown leather strap. I find it an extremely versatile watch and super accurate.

Just picked this one up tonight on Jomashop (Cyber Monday) and got a free watch to go with it...Merry Christmas to me.

I didn't think too much about this generic watch until I held it in my hand and was impressed with the quality of the steel. Reminds me of a Victorinox.

That really is a beautiful, clean, balanced watch. It could be field, dress or everyday. Slap on a fluted bezel and we could call it the Hamilton Day-Date.

I wish the Field Khaki 38 Auto had this style bracelet!!

I actually like the polished bezel only because scratches show up even worse on brushed surfaces. That's because the mirror finish distracts the eye with reflection while on brushed all you see is the scratch. My Tag F1 has brushed bezel and I rarely wear it because I want to keep it clean.

Jody, I got a really good deal on this watch. Last year I had my 45 year anniversary at my workplace (CNH Ind.), and the gift I picked was the Hamilton Khaki King. I love this watch, and pretty much wear it daily. A side note, I live about 20 minutes away from the birthplace of Hamilton watches, Lancaster, Pa. Cheers!

I recently received the 100 m water resist date only version of this. It has the bracelet as well which I find a quite possibly be the most comfortable bracelet I’ve ever owned. I’d also like to point out that it’s actually A4 link bracelet as the center is actually in two pieces helping it to where that much better. Yes it reflects even the faintest of light and yes the loom is even worse than I think you gave her credit for. However, if watches had no value, and the house was on fire, and I could only grab one watch, it would be the Hamilton not the Rolex! Love the review as always

I have this exact watch and love it. The bracelet is comfortable but not adequate for people with large wrists (myself). Also, the small gap between the spring bars and the case make it somewhat difficult to fit certain nato straps.

No screw down crown and no eta 2824 is the deal breaker for me. To me a good field watch needs to have a screw down crown, no exceptions. And I understand the movement is good but there is no micro adjustment and with the eta 2824 you have to take off the rotor weight and the automatic works to get the adjustment lever so I'm not sure what they were thinking when they decided not to keep the micro adjustment screw on the powermatic 80 movement but because they took it away your gonna have to either take off the automatic works yourself to adjust it if it's running too fast or too slow for you or take it to a watch maker just to speed up or slow down the movement, or just pray you get a good one that's running between plus one and there seconds a day like Jody was lucky enough to get. But I have a few friends that bought a swatch watch with the powermatic 80 movement and they would be running around plus 15 seconds a day after the break in period, so Nope. No sir. Not for me, I'll keep buying the old swatch group watches with the eta 2824 and 2836 movements with the micro adjustment screws thank you. Don't let anyone fool you. Don't buy a powermatic 80 movement watch you can still buy the same watches brand new from jomashop with the eta 2824 and 2836 movements in them. You always wanna be able to adjust your own watch if it's running to fast or to slow. And with the powermatic 80 movement watches it's a real pain in the ass. Where as the eta 2824 and clones and variants is as easy as a Sunday morning.

I got my Hamilton at my local dealer . I got 16 %. Off It took me a few hr but I saved $100 . I got the 2 year Hamilton warranty . So you can get a deal at a local AD .

My 6 month old Hammy Khaki 42mm 10bar works beautifully....+4s/day and v legible. Agree with His Nibs Jody about the impracticality of the polished bezel......mine has a few scratches.....I tell myself the watch is gaining character. Anyway, if I keep on scratching it, it will soon appear polished😁. Solid review, I love my Hammy

That's a beautiful watch running really good accurate good brand my only problem with it is the 50m I mean I believe you could swim in it but 100 would be perfect. Still gonna have to buy one eventually.

Recently took delivery of my Champaign dialed version with a leather strap. This variants dial colour makes the watch a little more dressy. I would have liked it to be another 1mm larger, as it wears a little small in my belief. The feel and finish of the watch is amazing, and I feel honoured to own it. I picked mine up in the UK from a collector, in mint condition for £300.

Great review, I like a lot of Hamiltons, the polished bezel and lack of AR are big issues with me, plus I already have a Bulova vhf military watch with 100m WR and a sweeping hand, with 10 second per year accuracy, a very under the radar watch.

Great video Jody! Macro shots are also on point here, really nice camera work and definitely a welcomed improvement. The Khaki King was my first swiss made auto, and it really changed the watch game for me. The case is finished very nicely, and for me personally the day/date window is what really makes this watch the 'King"

I have one of these, have owned it for a few years and love it. I have the older, 28,800 VPH movement in mine and it loses about 1 to 2 seconds a day. As for what you said about the watch, I agree in part. I like the day-date function and have no problem with the dial being cut cut to accommodate. Yeah, water resistance could be better, but it is a field watch, not a sport or diver. I just keep that in mind when wearing it and have had no issue. I wear this watch proudly and have had some favorable comments on it. Enjoy!!

No different from the date just joddie it’s outter bezel is highly polished. Mine hasn’t any scratches as long as your careful. Great review love the hammy

Thanks for video! I first was interested in the 42mm Khaki field watch, but lug to lug is a whopping 52mm. And while the 38mm has shorter lug to lug, 38mm size is smaller than I want. So this(or other of) 40mm model may be the choice.

Yet another great video, Jody! I’ve been looking forward to this one since your unboxing video. When the upload flashed up I actually typed up a note on my phone guessing the moans and niggles to see what you thought and the only one that that you didn’t mention was the small crown to guard ratio, I find it on the harder side to turn and set but maybe I have fat fingers!? It’s very apparent from the videos you do of watches I own and really enjoy that you’re a reviewer that actually puts wrist time in. Keep it up my man, all the best from Leeds!

This was my first automatic watch (and the one that started my watch addiction), acquired it when they were still using the eta 2834-2 (this is the spelled out day complication) still my best wearing watch.

I was struggling to pick between this one and the 38mm Khaki Field. I eventually settled on the Field, because of the higher water resistance, and the smaller diameter and lug to lug distance; also I kinda don't like the arabics to be clipped. I did so with a certain reluctance though, because I really don't like the red seconds hand, and I like the King's case a lot better (I have a Vaer A5 that looks really similar to the Field anyways). When I finally went to buy the Field, they ran out of stock, I'm taking it as a sign that I should get the King instead.

I understand that everyone had opinions and preferences, but how can anyone look at the King and not detest the way they treated the 11 and 1? Either leave them out altogether or make the day window smaller, but chopping them up just seems stupid.

As always, another very nice review Jody! I’ve been looking at the Khaki King for quite some time and thought I was about ready to pull the trigger, as I really like the watch. However, the ‘moons and niggles’ you discuss give me some food for thought. I have a Tissot Seastar 1000 with a Powermatic 80 movement. The Tissot has a screw down crown with 300 M Water Resistance, as compared to the Khaki King with no screw down crown and 50 M Water Resistance. It just seems a shame that Hamilton doesn’t take full advantage of the Powermatic 80 Movement. The build quality of the Tissot Seastar is outstanding, in my opinion. As an FYI, I bought my Tissot from Jomashop and paid only $60 more (recent sale price), than Jomashop’s price for the Khaki King. Thanks for such a comprehensive review of the Khaki King. I guess, I’ll stew about this for a while before making my decision. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks...Ed
