In a world of rapid and radical technological change, those who have the scars and wounds of the circuitous path to success are the ones who can help us all make an impact. Through his role as CEO at ATP Innovations, Hamish Hawthorn has had the fortune of working with many entrepreneurs and founders of startup companies, guiding them toward the achievement of their vision, and has seen the incredibly positive impact that comes from a strong and enduring mentor relationship.
Entrepreneurs are that rare breed of people who have true vision and a burning desire to make a real difference and change the world in a meaningful way. Transforming their vision into a reality takes persistence, tenacity, and dedication- which can be a real challenge in Australia's traditionally risk-averse culture.
Mentors are driven by a willingness to share, guide and coach their colleague towards success, great mentors do all this to help the ecosystem, make a difference, and to continue the virtuous cycle of mentorship that inevitably helped them get to where they are today.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I think the most fundamental bond of trust that was broken for me a long time ago was the idea that this country works. That you can get ahead if you try real, real hard, and that good people eventually succeed and make it to the top. And you can. But the vast majority are having a hell of a time of it, and a lot of connections don't seem to be getting made. It's obscene how much we leave people behind to the point where choices look more like utilitarian, Faustian triages rather than

legitimately moral choices. I want my country back, the *real* America, not this parallel one where no one seems to be at the helm steering us towards calmer, brighter shores. I want to talk to somebody, anybody, who knows the general score about how to make that happen.
