this remains as the best Delena scene of all 8 seasons. The pain, the selflessness of Damon. I fell in love with Delena while reading the books, and if I liked Stefan it was probably only during the pilot episode. My heart was always Delena. What they had still remains to be reached by another tv couple.

It's in the writing. Because Stefan and Damon are written in complete opposites, Damon is the better man. They show this in 1x18 and 1x19. Stefan and Damon switch roles in 1x18 so that Delena can begin their love story in 1x19. Follow it with a long, well-written struggle for Elena because Stefan and Damon aren't good vs bad, they're good vs better.
