@@KS-PNW When they did The Mummy, they should've had it set in Egypt instead of having it in Iraq and England. Also, I would've gone for either Sam Worthington or Justin Long instead of Tom Cruise, because people didn't want him in The Mummy which was why they wanted Brendan Fraser back. As for Dr. Jekyll, they should've kept Russell Crowe a secret and had him appear at The End as leader of Prodigium. Dracula Untold did a better job by having it set in Romania in the 15th Century and then in the 21st Century in England.

The Master said to Vlad- 'then one day I will call on you my pawn, to serve me, in this immortal game'. I think he was following Vlad, not to kill him, but needed him for his revenge on whoever betrayed him.
@peoplez129
@peoplez129 27 күн бұрын
Yep, and that's also why he was straight forward and honest with Vlad from the start, because he knew that he had to develop an acquittance on respect instead of lies and deceit, so that Vlad couldn't say he tricked him. He chose Vlad specifically because he figured he was the type of person that he needed in the future. It seems like the master vampire was spending the whole time preparing himself for the immortal game. Building up wealth and hierarchies and followers, and doing so in secret to the point Vlad never even noticed him once in the centuries. So I think it's to hint that revenge is not going to be as easy as simply summoning the demon and doing some spells, and that maybe even the demon themself is just a middle man doing a greater powers bidding. I think where they were going with it, was that it was all actually god in the end, and that the devil was just gods minion so god could play the good guy, when in reality there was a duality to god. So he wasn't looking to get revenge on the demon, or on the devil, but to take on god himself, and maybe not to destroy him, but to instead find him and make god listen to him, to change the way the universe works for the better, to try to get through to god. I think he figures that god is just an old entity somewhere that may have his own motivations, but may also ultimately be flawed motivations, except god can't see it, because he's well you know....god. So the master vampire essentially wants to make god notice him, by dismantling many of the systems god put into place, starting with demons, who are ultimately just doing what god wants them to do. So the whole second movie would be more like heaven and hell being one in the same, a single kingdom, with hell being the outer village, and heaven being the castle. Of course, how they actually go about physically going there to do that, if physically at all, is a question, but it might all be closer than people think, just like that witch lady kind of disappeared off into a different realm. So my guess is that heaven and hell actually exist simultaneously on earth, but are kind of in their own pocket dimension that bleeds over into ours. I think the reason why the master vampire realizes how things really work, is because he might have glimpsed it from the demon, and having all that time in that cave to ponder with nothing else to occupy his mind, he had a long long time to just sit and ponder things about the nature of reality and man and god and the devil, and came to one simply conclusion: The only way god could allow these demons to exist, is because they are doing his bidding, because nothing in the universe it without its place that god has determined to be so, and so the source of all suffering and wrong and evil, must be god himself. And I think that's where they were ultimately going if there was a second movie. The goal was to find their way to meet god face to face.

A couple things to know based on what you said, which was great: 1. Vlad was probably slower due to the fact that he's starved for blood. 2. Vlad wasn't effected by the cross even after he drank blood. I believe that this is due to the fact he became a vampire to protect his people vs. his followers who likely drank for revenge. 3. Regarding how he knew so luch about Vlad is that he's a well known killer, killing thousands of innocent people. The master vampire likely hesrd these things from people near the vicinity of the cave since he has super hearing and also you mention control over creatures of the night light bats. They may have gathered information and brought it to him.

I'm sure the Master Vampire was indeed talking about the demon. He mentions that he wants to take revenge on the one who "turned him", and the demon truly "betrayed" him, because that's what usually happens in stories where someone makes a deal with the devil. He said that he would eventually call upon Vlad for his help in his revenge as a pawn in "an immortal game of revenge", which tells me that the one who he is talking about is immensely powerful and immortal.

There should have been a sequel. This version of vlad/Dracula being a powerful vampire but also a man of faith was such an interesting concept that it would have been interesting to see how that developed. His wife being reincarnated into the modern-day could be like god giving vlad another chance at love as well as seeing how he could own the vampire curse and perhaps use it for good. It would have been very cool to see him interact with the female mummy and later monsters. The entire idea of a dark universe vaguely similar to the mcu would have been cool. Too bad tom cruise had to ruin it all.

But also other shit threw me off about it as well, like mind control spiders and the mercury or whatever they pumped into her to keep her subdued being puked up for her to get back to normal. I've noticed the Master has a lot of similarities to the ancient greek monster Vrykolakas. Both are undead, both resemble a zombie, both are the result of a restless soul seeking something greater than a normal life. And, if my memory is not mistaken, the Master was a Roman emperor. Say what you will but the original vampire is Cain. Brother of Abel. God cursed him to roam the earth immortal so that he would never forget the sin of killing his brother. Then, Babylonian deminology connects him to Lilith, the first wife of Adam, with whom he had children (demons), and used his blood magic to create new vampires. Vampire is a Serbian word and the first documented Vampire was called Arnaut Pavle, in Medvedja near Trstenik. You also have Petar Blagojević from Kisiljevo, also Serbia. Jure Grando is from Croatia, the village of Kringa near Istria. Vrykolakas is an undead being like a zombie. He did not drink blood or feed on human blood. He was something like an evil spirit that brings bad luck if you invoke his call at night. That word essentially means “wolf’s hair.” It's a Serbo-Croatian word that the Greeks took because they didn't have a single vampire-like creature in their mythology. They had a Lamia, but she was a demonic creature and had no human form. H.F. Tozer dispelled this superstition and said that this creature in Greece was more like a zombie and was neither a blood-drinking werewolf nor a humanoid vampire.

In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is not just a witch she is THE WITCH. I believe it is commonly accepted that she was inspired by an ancient Slavic goddess. After all, she is said to travel with death, and in some tales to even find her hut, you must face three knights who do her bidding each representing the dawn, the day and the night. I really wanted a sequel for this film and they should have done one , forget the dark universe. I didn't know anything about the baba yaga being in this film would have been really interesting but I can see why they cut it to keep the focus on the main characters. I liked how they portrayed the master . They where differently keeping stuff back for the 2nd movie. But giving him that mystery to him gives you more to work with. I think like with any story he might have let one surviver live so to tell his tale and in time more people would go to the mountain to look and then he could feed and just had lived in that cycle for so long waiting for someone strong enough to break his curse. But guess without a 2nd film we shall never truly know.

The problem with the theory of Vlad being a reincarnated version of the one who betrayed the Master Vampire is because the Master Vampire said to Vlad in the film “One day, I may call upon you to serve me, my pawn.” If Vlad was reincarnated, why would the Master Vampire go through the trouble of turning him into a master vampire, aka his pawn, call upon him one day to serve him, and not kill him right after the Master Vampire was set free from the cave? My theory is that if Universal Studios had continued the Dark Universe, I believe Set from 2017’s The Mummy is the demon that betrayed and turned the Master Vampire into what he is, and he would call Vlad to join him to hunt down and kill the host of Set.

For the silver thing - it's a natural antibiotic, too. It became a weakness for 'mystical infections' because of this, as werewolves aren't classically evil so much as nature gone berserk. But of course, lore differs between series - underworld, vampires weren't weak to silver as it was their main weapon versus the werewolves.

It's interesting how people of the past figured things out without having a proper understanding of how they worked. Particularly, herbal remedies and the like. Before refrigeration, people would put silver coins in milk to keep it from spoiling. Silver is used today in several medical applications, such as topical creams for burn victims, due to its antibiotic properties.

In the trailer for Dracula Untold, the Master vampire's lair has a lot of Roman architectural features, which aren't there in the film as it was released. There are ruinous classical statues and pillars, whereas in the released version it just looks like a rough cave. They obviously decided to back away from the Caligula concept. I wonder if this was because they realised that Romania (Dacia) only became part of the Roman Empire after the campaign of Trajan, who was later than Caligula. (I doubt it because they aren't sticklers for historical accuracy in these films. They they managed to have the Ancient Egyptians burying Amunet in Iraq, in The Mummy, and Iraq was never under Egyptian control).

1. This movie's main flaw is that its too short for its own good. An extra 20-30 minutes *showing* the more messed up and morally grey side of Vlad would have been cool. Keep in mind, he *did* use many of the same tactics that the Ottomans did to great effect, as well as employing some *really fucked up* fear tactics to make himself more feared among his enemies, even if it did end up having the adverse effect of creating ghastly rumors about him. Some of the side characters also deserved much more screentime ti make their inevitable fates that much more tragic/brutal. 2. This movie was *much* better suited to being the start of the "Dark Universe" then that horrible new "The Mummy" movie.

Baba Yaga might have originally been a Roman witch, or _striga_ (in some stories, they're a kind of vampire- but clearly not here)- who was compelled to perform the ritual for Gaius/ Caligula, & maybe she put some kind of fail-safe into it- maybe she transported him to that cave, which is far from Rome where he lived & died- & bound him to it. It's possible he was still human for some of the early years in the cave, because Gaius was fairly young when he died, or maybe the curse aged him as well as deforming him... I'd give anything for a sequel to this- adding those cut scenes back into the sequel as flashbacks would be ideal to me; I think Dracula Untold could stand on its own without the Dark Universe.

I think she could be Locusta. Locusta was someone that was an expert in poisons. She is also said to have been from Gaul which is pretty close to the areas with Baba Yaga folklore. Maybe in this universe she also knew some form of black magic. She might have originally considered Nero to become a vampire but found him to be unworthy. She managed to fake her death like Caligula and they managed to make a deal with the demon turning her into Baba Yaga and Caligula into the master vampire.

Being unable to die but starving would not be good for anyone - obviously freedom agreed with him though.

I think Mina (I believe that’s her name) was somehow instrumental in the Master’s betrayal. Kinda hitting on the reincarnation theory but somehow ties HER into it. Maybe the earlier version of her pushed to have him killed… or she’s the one that brought the demon into it and convinced the demon to betray him because of some petty grievance. Ya know? The original way to kill a vampire wasn't just a stake, it was a stake made of or dipped in silver. That is what i liked so much about this movie, they included the often forgotten fact that silver weaponry also worked against vampires, not just werewolves. Silver really used to work on all creatures of the knight, demons, ghosts, ghouls, everything associated with "evil" or "demons" in some way.

Fun fact the lore that instilled silver being the weakness of nearly all demonic/night creature Is tied to judis betraying Jesus christ for 30 pieces of silver. From that day god cursed( or blessed depending on your perspective) all silver in the world of God to be lethal to the unholy, and evil
@drjonesey5

Correct, and games kept that concept for some but not all. Silver is always said to work on Werewolves but some games included it for Ghost weaknesses like The Elder scrolls series. If you walked into a place with Ghost without Silver especially early in the game you were getting whooped as you couldn't harm the ghost at all. Silver blades and magic or better material than silver worked (better as in enchanted weapons or magic weapons and ones from different plains of existence).

Oh wow, did *not* know The Dracula Tape had any sequels! TYSVM for that heads up! Awesome book. If you’re into something that’s a bit more involved with the period nuances and counter-factual history due to Dracula’s involvement w/ Queen Victoria (Van Helsing and the others failing to drive him out of England), I definitely recommend Anno Dracula. It doesn’t focus on Vlad himself, but the world building of a Victorian England being slowly and politely overtaken by vampirism?

I was actually hoping for another movie to follow up on Dracula Untold. However, I don't think Vlad is the one who 'betrayed' the master vampire. I have a feeling the Master Vampire simply saw Dracula as a powerful pawn he could use in order to obtain his revenge. After all, something so powerful to curse a man like that, would indeed be very powerful. The Master Vampire may simply be looking for group to aide him in his revenge due to how powerful his opponent is.

Firstly, I very much enjoyed how this movie seamlessly blended the historical Vlad the Impaler with the dramatic villain of Bram Stoker's novel, though the former half-inspired the latter. Secondly, the disdain that vampires have towards silver is expanded upon in another movie: "Dracula 2000". The film touches on the Crucifixion, like you stated here, but the new depth lies in the reveal that Dracula was actually Judas Iscariot. Becoming the first vampire was his punishment for betraying Christ, after his suicide attempt proved unsuccessful. Given how "Dracula Untold" ends in the new millennium, which was unexpected, since the more obvious choice would've been to go into the Victorian era of the novel, I think it would've been interesting to see THIS Vlad react to how his story has been interpreted and re-imagined by new generations, such as it was with "Dracula 2000". Who knows, though. Maybe, if and when a sequel comes out, this will be explored. (5/21/2023)

Absolutely my favorite Dracula movie ever! Great casting, awesome effects, and overall a great retailing of the old tale from a different perspective. I keep my fingers crossed for a sequel one day. I just hope I live long enough to see it happen. I think Baba Yaga's part was only meant to be minor, sure she has knowledge of certain things and is more than likely older than Vlad so she obviously has learned a thing or two about Demons and the stories surrounding them, as most witches do. You proposed an interesting theory on the Master's betrayer, but I disagree. I think the Demon (who remains unknown) is part of the Master's life cycle and is his nemesis or in the least his super antagonist. The Demon would be immortal, someone who would have to of been around during the early years of the Roman Empire in order to interact with the Master in the first place.
