Yes, there is a ladder that is not used. No matter how I co figured it, it would spawn a GD ladder right there. I did finally find a trick to get rid of it, however. I am working on another build now, and will probably put out an update video after that with a V2 of this build.

@@TeamScorpioRI I'd love to see another C class with only one level but more agility. Like the power on this one is fine cuz it's a tank. But something with 3500ish cargo with that engine power, is that even something you can build without glitches?

@@byrnespeed It can be done, for sure. Its a balancing act between cargo capacity and engine power. Best bet would be to upgrade the engines to the SAL 6830's (after completing "All that money can buy"), and swapping a couple of the cargo containers on the bottom for Stroud Cowling 1LB-PTs (those match).

@@TeamScorpioRI OK I'll try that cuz I'm not a huge hoarder but I'm trying to complete every research there is so more cargo would help. I'm using 4 SA-4330 Engines + plus 2 Amun-7. I'm topped out with the mass I got. Using a DC403 Reactor and top speed is 150, mobility 100. Mass is 1387 and hull is at 1369. Shields are okay at 760 and I can fight 10-15 ships no problem. Got a missiles control specialist cuz I got fed up of some of the characters and their 3 fkin lines of dialogue they spit at you every 2 minutes. Oh yeah got 3 Torch 250MW UV Lazer (33) and 3 ATLATL 270C Missile Launchers (491). That's pretty much it. Once I got a lock, they're done. I'm not lvl 75 so I probably don't have all the best parts yet I have no idea. I just started to mess with the ship builder. Used the Mantis for a while but got fed up. Got any recommendations? @@byrnespeed I did make a mistake in this video with the level. You need level 60 to access all the parts, plus you need the Ship Design skill at rank 4 as well. For weapons, I'd look at switching to some particle beam weapons as they have a great range. Missiles are ok at first, but they are slow and easy for enemies to evade. They just boost and you lose that shot. I usually put 4 PB-175's and 4 PBO-175's on my ships. Fire them together and they just shred any ship in seconds. The crew is annoying, for sure. I wish we had an option to silence them... Especially Sam and his daughter. The mantis is an ok ship compared to the starter ship, but underwhelming for sure. The only good thing about it is the hidden "Mantis" buff (pirates will surrender and give you credits because they are afraid of you). It does make a good ship to build off of, and the buff will stay even if you completely strip the ship.

Good point. I try not to purchase that many temp parts, going with only the parts that I need to make the ship flyable. It's definitely better if you have an outpost with a landing pad to build on. Thanks for the sub. Next video is coming soon.

Yeah, that ladder annoys me, especially since its pretty much non-functional. I had a prior design that used a rear facing bay opening under the ship that didn't have that ladder placement. The problem was, I didn't realize how low the ship sat. I did a quick travel from one planet to the next and was forced to go through a scan. When I landed, I found I was trapped under the damn ship. Even crouching wouldn't let me out. I had to fast travel somewhere to get out. I wish I recorded it because it was comical. The slopes were a total design choice. I did try the cowlings, but didn't like the look as much. Maybe I will do a V2 and see if I can improve the design a bit. Thanks for the feedback.

@@TeamScorpioRI I noticed you 'glitch' the shield, is this to avoid your shield get destroyed easy when it is on top of your ship being 'exposed'?

On this build, not really. Hiding the shield like that does nothing to protect it. This particular shield sticks out sideways, which didn't look right on the ship. So I decided to hide it under the ship. I could have left that spot open, but I thought it looked weird to just have an open area on the bottom. So I put the bracer in there, and glitched the shield into the spot as well. On my MKII version of this ship, I used a different shield (the assurance sg-1800) which looked better on the ship.

I used Camtasia as a screen capture software for this one. While it looked fine during recording, it wasn't till after that I found it was shuddering BAD. I'm switching to OBS for subsequent videos. That seems to capture better.

Yeah, there is some goofy things happening with that bridge. I am working on changing this build up a little. I might try a 2x3 hab if I can find one I like.

Thank you for the feedback. Future videos should have better screen capture. I was using a different program for this one which was set to 30fps and skipping frames every few seconds... I am also currently working on an update to this build.

@@byrnespeed No worries. I accept all constructive criticism. Definitely check my other builds for more ship styles. My favorite so far is the one called the "Raider". I hid all the weapon and the cockpit in the body of the ship, so it as a cool look to it.

That is definitely a good starting ship for this. You will get that nice little hidden Mantis bonus.

Yeah. I just used these as I wanted a solid look to the ship. I just really wish you could color those top caps. I think you would see more designs with them if they could be colored and flipped upside down.

Yeah, it's frustrating that you can't color that part. To me, that seems like a bug. I just matched the rest of the ship to that color motif. Hopefully they fix that... or a modern fixes it (more likely)

Plenty of flexibility to add or change. I'm a "collector" so I tend to need more cargo space.

I took a step back from Starfield a few months back - while I was playing I never got into shipbuilding, I had a hard time managing camera position, snap points, and just 'designing' a reasonable ship, etc. I am going to try it again - I want a good/tough 'capture' ship - this may be it!

Good point. At the same time, more power to a weapon = faster recharge rate = more consistant damage? (Plus on PC, I just hate having to hit the G key to fire the 3rd weapon. I need to remap that)

@@TeamScorpioRI I set some back facing turrets as my third weapons. That way I don't ever have to press G to fire them, and they keep firing on any ship I overtake or that try to sneak up on me.

It has weapons and spacesuit workstations, but not the science stations as my research is already maxed out. You could easily switch one of the 2x1 habs, like the all in one berth, to the science station to add that in.

Hopefully not. People use the glitch trick alot to blend different pieces together to almost make new pieces. It helps when you can glitch a couple pieces together to smooth out the edges

Thanks for the feedback. This was my first video and the screen capture software I was using on this was not only capturing at 30fps, but studdering every couple seconds. I switched to OBS for my other videos, which captures more accurately (though I wouldn't mind an upgrade to my GPU, but damn even the 3080s are still like $1200)

@@TeamScorpioRI ah awesome, glad you came across OBS and the frame issue :) The games quite smooth on my RX 6800xt. I've seen some 3080's online for $599 and I'm sure you could sell your current for a pretty penny.

I could not figure out how to get rid of that damn ladder! It's not even used for anything, even though it looks like it would be. I wish we had the options to remove access points like that. Maybe in an update (or a mod)

I think you need to attach all the bottom layer habs to one another, then attach the bridge/cockpit, then attach top layer habs, making sure to attach the first one to the cockpit, then attach others to ones that are already connected to the cockpit. I haven't rigorously tested how careful you have to be but I think the game adds a ladder if ther isn't already another way into the hab. So just connect them in the right order so that there's already a connection to the other habs and you should be good. Hopefully that makes sense.

Maybe. It depends on the weight of those cargo. Remember the more weight on the ship, the more landing gears you would need. You might need to replace a couple of the cargo on the bottom with gears (or just head to the Den to sell contra-ban, as they don't scan you in that system).

When attempting to place the part, it will turn red. Click Y on the controller while pressing A. That should work. There are some youtube tutorials on how to glitch parts on an xbox.

Slop cap? Slope cap. I really appreciate the work you have done on the build, and your video is better than most, but yeah man, this is a first draft. I am slapping it together hackishly: I will have to redo all the habs. No worries, there is nothing left to spend money on.

Hmm.. The 2x2 Hab module should be a standard module available at level 3. The default option should say "2x2 All-In-One Berth". Click the left or right arrows on your keyboard (not sure what the option is on XBox) to change the Battle Station variant. Most of Taiyo is unlocked at level 3, except for the bridges. Those are level locked till level 33, I believe.

@@TeamScorpioRI Then I can only guess my game is glitched, which is annoying. I am most the way through the build, attaching the spine B, which I don't have, to attach my shield. And yeah man, I am on Xbox. Frustrating: I literally designated time to do this; I appreciate your help, but maybe this will be corrected with the update, though not likely. Great video, you have a couple of typos, but as a presenter, you delivered well and you taught me a lot about modifying ships.

@@wetmetalthong that is definitely weird. Do you have any of the 2x2 habs available or is that part missing all together? Looks like to select the variant on Xbox, select left or right on the Dpad before purchasing the module. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

@@TeamScorpioRI This doesn't seem to be showing up, maybe you stopped my comments. But this is to note: On Xbox, to glitch it, press and hold A (left mouse button), press Y to flip, press Y to flip, still holding A, hit B, and pop. And it works with the Spine A.

I know. This was my first attempt at screen capture and the program I was using (Camtasia) not only set the frame rate to 30fps, but also decided to stutter the feed every 2 seconds. I didn't realize it till editing. I switched to OBS for all my future videos. That seems to capture the screen much better.

Thanks for the feedback. Habs can always be changed out to the players preference (example, I don't add a science hab as my research is completed). As for the ascetic of the ship, well... beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

True. Stealing a class C ship will always be cheaper. Head out to a level 70 system, hit a moon, wait for ship to land, and take it... but then you have a stock ship. Some people are ok with that. Hell, I rocked a Claymore for my first 2 playthoughs. After a while though, you just get sick of the stock ships and want something different. Like a custom built hotrod, it will set you back more than a car off the lot.. but its built for you. Also, 650k is not bad for a custom built ship. My new main ship (a variant of the Strongbow build I posted) cost over 1m.

I agree. I would love the ability to turn access points on and off so that you can path a ship a specific way. I'd also love to have more options for 1x1, 3x1, and 3x3 habs... on the cockpit though, I like this one. Something about the stairs to me in interesting. I had another ship that had the captions quarters and crafting stations down there.. Basically my own mini apartment on the ship.

Agreed. Seems like a big oversight. FWIW : "Place Doors Yourself" seems to work great so far - for me, anyway. But I'll admit it is a bit tedious, because (to get it to work with the game engine) you literally have to place EVERY door yourself.
