It may depend on how much Paris 2024 costs as well. If it goes way over budget then Tokyo 2020 will be viewed as a one off. It might change the game but it depends on Paris as well to make the games seem attainable again.
@--_--IMP--_--
@--_--IMP--_-- 4 жыл бұрын
How much of their low costs were thanks to having so many already existing well-built "Legacy" buildings available? The overall cost would've been double (maybe more) if all of those buildings had to be built from scratch. I wouldn't call the Tokyo 2020 costs a one off, as any city that has already hosted the Olympics will always have a budgetary advantage over any city having to build every single venue from scratch; more now than ever, as the number of events (and venues required to host these events) keeps going up. This is especially true of cities that build quality venues the first time around, like Tokyo did. *cough cough Rio cough cough* If Paris can reuse some of their existing venues, it can potentially keep the costs down near Tokyo 2020 levels. If Paris has to build everything from scratch, it cannot possibly match Tokyo 2020's low overall cost. No first time host can possibly match that low overall cost.
@ryanlungdb
@ryanlungdb 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, often times the astronomical costs are due to the construction of transport infrastructure, such as new airports, new train/metro/tram lines, new highways etc. Only a handful of cities have such infrastructure on the same level as Tokyo.

I love the wooden architecture... It's uniquely Japanese. 👍👍 People would think it's impossible to build such huge stadiums with wood, but apparently it's not impossible for the Japanese. 😅😂😂

Vicatoren They won’t. Fin. It won’t be happening. Utterly staggered by people’s understanding of this pandemic and the non-importance of the olympics. I like watching it but it’s literally a 2 week MacDonalds advert.

@@creativeamerican8811 I wrote this four weeks ago - now it is quite clear that there won't be any Olympics. It was obvious that they weren't a good idea back then too, the thing was I felt they were going to hold them anyway.

Vicatoren Ah apologies, I should have seen the date. I wasn’t just aiming that at your comment though :) ha. I have seen so many people and athletes of both games, (O+P) really complaining and acting like brats tbh. I am sure Tokyo wants to do it.. I am sure they all want to do it.. but they can’t cos of this virus and for these people to be acting in this way when there are more important things for the organisers to be doing right now! FML. It’s made me fill up with rage tbh. Doped up cunts. Nothing more. Nothing less. They are all on it. And like I said... Can anyone deny it’s a 2 week advert for MacDonalds..? Well yes they can because it’s 3 weeks no?

@@creativeamerican8811 It's funny how I felt instinctively that your being reasonable and not acting like a great duffus was grounds for a "thank you". It's really just normal behaviour, and definitely not something one would - under normal circumstances - be grateful for... but I guess with the ludicrous ways some people have been acting over in the warzone that is another comment on this video's replies in mind it's not that unreasonable. Totally unrelated to anything, just felt like speaking my mind. Sorry if this reply is uncalled for.

imgladiliveineurope Rio need to build almost everything from scratch. While Tokyo, being one of the top and wealthiest cities in the world, need only refurbishment in almost of its venues and infrastructure. Beijing, like Tokyo for sure will going to spend less now in the Winter Olympics because they already have the facilities and infrastructure. Compare to Sochi which also build everything from scratch.
