Larch grows very fast. Pacific northwest (Washington state) there is a webster nursery that sells it.

Excellent video. I began to mill a standing dead tamarack that I cut down last year but it began to warp as I was cutting it. Do you ever use standing dead trees or just green? The trees are recently dead maybe 2-4 years ago and are still moist. Also I love your shelter and would like to use my tamarack for that as well and also some decking and other structural members. Would you be willing to share the design or point me in the right direction for such a building. Thank you.

Here are my answers to your questions: 1) Yes, I often recover and saw trees that are already dead with my mobile sawmill. 2) When a log starts to twist and hook when you saw it, there's a lot of tension in the tree. This tension is often present in a tree that is close to forest trails, or that is isolated from a forest stand without much protection from the wind. It has to fight its way through the wind on its own to stay upright. As a result, tension builds up in its trunk, and when you saw it, it releases this tension to hook and deform. 3) As you mentioned, larch is an excellent wood for outdoor structures, whether for building structures or for decking. 4)I've made a short video about the construction of my mobile sawmill.
