This is the best video I've seen for the Spry+ ! I just took mine out for the 1st time this past weekend. Great video! Great stability in flying! Landed it on a boat with no problem. Used it to explore shallow marsh area that we couldn't reach with a motor boat.

Steve, the extra piece they sent that you thought was for the controller actually gets put on the heat sink on the bottom of the drone. Its used for mainly for attaching fishing line to fly out much farther than you could cast with a fishing pole. I dont fish but I have used it to some of my sons Lego mini figures around. He loves it because it looks like they are in the military doing whats called spy rigging. Anyway I thought you would like to know that. Cheers

Great, through and long! Actually it’s a great drone but not inexpensive!! I’ve been using the gimbal version SP3 ,GC-3 camera which is most cinematic for the last 1/2 a year and the cameras are bad ass. If you are a water-sports photographer this is a good drone to have. The images are sharp and you can get unreal in-the-Barrel water shots. It’s a real money maker. I have had my drone hit by the lip on a heavy offshore day and it went over the falls and flipped over. Eventually I was able to flip it over up right and I flew back to the line-up without any further hold downs. Extremely durable and watertight. This drone is the real deal. Water tight Phantom 4. 👍🏼

I picked one of these up about two months ago and its become my new favorite drone to fly. The only issue I have had is with the drone maintaining its altitude. The drone will ascend and descend on it's own sometimes. Usually only a couple of feet but it did descend all the way to landing once. Its really not a huge deal but I thought I would mention it. There is also a different Acro firmware available on Swellpro's website for those interested. Apparently that firmware allows the user to do flips and increase the top speed quite a bit. It also disables all sensors so be very careful if you try that firmware.

@@badlands1217 I don't and never have owned a Gopro so I'm not sure what the answer is. What I can say is that any photos or video that are taken only save to the micro SD card installed in the drone. The two apps that can be used with the Spry+ (specifically Swellcam) allow tou to adjust the cameras parameters, but don't save any photos or videos. As far as downloading directly from thr drone through the micro USB port, I honestly don't know but I don't think you can. The manual would have instructions on how to do that if it were possible. Hope this helps.

I would love to see a review by you on SwellPro's other water proof drone that has a gimbal and a payload system. Called the Splash Drone 3. But I really liked this review. See if you can fly the Spry under water without GPS (in ATTI)! As far as drones with built in screens, Yuneec comes to mind.... And Autel's Evo line. And, while it's an extra, DJI does have their "Smart Controller" which has a built in screen. Granted, none of these are waterproof, but they all do have gimbals. If someone wants a waterproof drone with a built in screen with the controller and an actual gimbal, then I'd consider the Splash Drone 3 from Swell Pro. How about comparing the Spry to the Power Egg X? Thanks again!

Would like to see your thoughts on the FPV. How about with those TopSky goggles? I was about to go Mavik but I love this idea of a camera drone that has FPV. Then waterproof? oh yeah. though the jelly-artifact is a bummer - even with the two blades it's definitely still there.

Cons are lack of sensors, short range, no gimble. Pros easy to see orange color, floats, uncluttered display, reasonable price. Useful review.

Around 14:37 when you are changing the battery, i can see that the battery strap didn't get placed completely inside the "water-tight" compartment. Call me a nit-picker, but this could result is a lack of sealing. Water will find it way in!

Great review. Pricey drone, but they really put a lot of love and thought into this one. Makes me want one even though I exclusively fly FPV freestyle now. The software and the nitty gritty details seem like they were very well thought out. I still have never bought a DJI (although I run the DJI FPV Digital goggle system) my friends have Mavics, etc. I think I would buy this over the Mavics as it would be a lot of fun to bring fishing or to the beach. :) Thanks again for the great channel and review. Have had mine for about 6 months. At first I had nothing more than its durability (crash resistance) and water integrity to be happy with. Now I am more experienced with flying it and happier. A couple points... the controller does not universally link to all goggles. The standard DJI goggles are Not compatible. Racing Edition goggles are. The view screen on the controller is very low resolution and low contrast. On a sunny day you will have significant trouble framing for a video or still photo. Build yourself a shade!! As Captain Drone showed us, the follow me mode and the circle mode may not keep the controller centered in the frame so it may require some in flight fine tuning. I would strongly suggest recalibrating the accelerometer and the compass on each new location regardless of what the Swellpro instructions say. In Canada, the Spry is about the same cost as the DJI Mavic Pro series. If you need a waterproof drone (from the experience of several inwater crashes) this is the way to go... if you don't need it to be waterproof, you'll be much happier with a consumer DJI productr.

One last point - I found when linking the aircraft to the swellcam 2 app, I had to double tap the wifi button to have signal recognized on my iPhone 7S. A single push made for a nice flashing 5 second green wifi light but no connection.

There's a ceramic coating for windshields that is basically "RainX on steroids" definitely an investment for a drone like this.

Remember when you're dunking it into salt water to rinse the motors with fresh water when done. Salt water corrodes !!

Rules are impossible to follow anyway. I fly through the woods a lot using goggles so a observer would be useless but I have never found anyone interested in being one anyway.

I haven't checked Price, But I would imagine from what I've seen 800$ was going to be my guess for low end price range but,Water Resistant, Quod and Control with What I really want display,and the Bells and Whistles it comes with Gosh Its NO DJI but it is Doing things that would make that Prould DJI owner Have a Cow, Rightfully So! Swellpro I believe a fairly good reputation in the Drone Business! It would seem to fit me Great for the Thing u said several times Durability!My experience with Drones If you're not Buying DJI ,with the ones now even MMini They are Durable in the fact They Work,So This would be a top of the Not DJI drones Worth Getting along with The power Egg2 ,Captain Can we see a Water Drone (this Swellpro vs Power Egg 2,and or any other contenders) Extreme water/weather Compaction to find The best All Conditions Flyer,That would be Great Idea for People who want to get A Drone that will be the Only One that they need to buy until tec changes everything again, I forget this drone is kinda like getting your feet wet in FPV World ,So add a one more point to Swellpro! This is awesome. Remember a while back there was a drone that was supposedly waterproof? I think it was a follow me drone, something similar to the skydio, but much different, it was a round drone... i wonder what ever happened to that drone? I’m still trying to figure out how your spry drone stays cool, the esc’s and all other internal electronics... The short flight time probably has something to do with cooling issues....

It's on sale and the basic package still costs $987 US !! That is Mavic Air 2 fly more combo territory. If you take away the waterproofing you're basically left with a Bugs 4W with a slightly better camera. I get the attraction of being able to take it boating, but for that price it needs a lot more flight time and a gimble. If this was a serious drone with a serious camera and good flight time then you can justify the cost. It seems they have sacrificed the drone so they can make it waterproof. To me it's a bit gimmicky. I think they had better hope DJI doesn't release a waterproof Mavic 2 Pro with 4K/60 anytime soon. 🤣🤣

I saw this advertised and was highly sceptical but having seen your review I can see how this would be a most useful and versatile piece of kit. I’d certainly entertain one. The image stability is actually pretty good for a non gimbal camera. Nice review.

Great review as usual, Steve. Wish you’d done it sooner. I was going to buy one but was put off by other reviews which were negative about the video quality. Interested in your remarks about props and jello. Wonder if a set of tuned/balanced props would fix that? There’s a lot of water around our way and it would be great to get down really low and slow to navigate some of the narrower creeks and rivers.

Usually reviewers are not that wise when it comes to drones with EIS and they expect the EIS to operate like a 3 axis gimbal. With EIS you have to be smooth on the controls when flying forward/backward.
