Hawthorn have a habit of disappearing while rebuilding. Geelong know how to manage a list. If 14 finals appearances since 2006 are anything to go by. Now they just need to remember how to actually won grand finals.

@@TheChemistGaming it's a credit to them being that consistent BUT it means nothing without flags. With their recruiting team, they could bottom out for a few years and get some real handy draft picks and do a few deals and they'll quickly move back up - unlike a team like Carlton who's recruiters and list management have butchered it.

A year is a long time in footy. Cats are universally admired for winning the 2022 premiership whilst hawthorns Alistair Clakson era is under a major cloud of dispicable racism. I would have rather won 0 premierships than associate my football team with such a horrendous era of racism.

Quinton Narkle won't stay next year. The club has treated him like rubbish by dropping him from the senior line-up every second week, he is coming out of contract, and he will seek a new home elsewhere. Expect that to be in his native state Western Australia, probably at Fremantle.

@@darrenmiles-morland8038 that's definitely possible, if so maybe the Cats can get a good trade out of it? if young players like Clark and Narkle are aggrieved about having to wait their turn b/c they are not good enough to be in the top 22 then that says more we about them than the club, but yeah you need opportunities to grow too so as long as the club get a chance to draft a replacement then life moves on

They have a decent young base to work around. Clark (20) Constable (21) Henry (22) Close (22) Simpson (22) parfitt (22) narkle (23) O’Connor (24) Atkins (25) Kolodjashnij (25). While we have a wealth of experience. Key pundits disregard that Geelong have young players which a future team can be built around. Geelong will still have an elite defence the next 5-6 years.

Cannot understand why they won't play Constable. He's a future gun and will almost certainly leave

@@kingwillbisthebest While Constable has shown a good ability to get contested possessions, he's horrible on the defensive end, has no change of speed and has poor decision making skills. For me he isn't in the top 25 best players in the team if your looking to win, but he has always shown the ability to rack up numbers in the stat sheet which always looks good to people. De Koning and Kreuger should fight it out for who replaces Henderson in the side for next season

Narkle and Constable are as good as gone, and I expect that Jordan Clark will follow them too. Such a waste of good talent for Geelong. The club has got only itself to blame for treating its up and coming fringe players like rubbish.

@@krisxchirbas9503 It is probably harsh to say they underachieved, a flag every ten years is pretty good in an 18 team comp but they would want to another one or two in the next fes years to be thought of as high acieving, especially when you factor in their list and ability to trade well and the fact that they are a magnet for high quality free agents. Their list will have a pretty big turnover within three years. Half of the team, including their best 6-7 players are well on the wrong side of thirty years old. Don't get me wrong, I applaud them for holding on to those players and getting the flag. It is infinitely better to get the premiership and then hit a wall rather than constantly dumping every guy who hits thirty and being a treadmill team. Hawthorn (my team) were criticised for holding on to players and topping up from 2016-2018 but they were still a chance at a flag with the list they had. So you have to strike when you think you are in with a chance but it does have a cost. Hawthorn are only just getting over paying the price for holding on to older players from 5-6 years ago but after three flags in a row it is an easy pill to swallow. If the cats do not win another and then decide to to rebuild after 2024 they realistically would not challenge again until into the 2030s. The full rewards and full cost will not be known for another 2-3 years.

This 'cull the over 30's Cats' thinking that has been going on for the last four days is getting a bit silly. Three or four at the most. Not Hawkins, not Selwood, not Duncan, not Touhy though.

@@terrythekittieful In November the Cats first pick is 30 - so they will probably get a good player at 30 but they are not going to get a key position player. The problem with a top heavy 30+ playing group is there are a lot of kids not getting a go and after a couple of years they get the chance to walk and they will walk to a team with a younger list and more chances to play. Next year the cats will have 15, 30+yo players on their list - in 3 years time at least 10 of them will be gone leaving a huge hole and a bunch of lads with limited AFL experience - if the Cats aren't careful they'll end up like the Crows the past two years. If the Cats are smart, they start tapping shoulders in the next couple of weeks.

It will be for as long as he remains Geelong's coach. With a new coach and a few changes to the playing list, Geelong may still have one more chance to have a decent crack at the premiership next year. But by 2023 a rebuild needs to be taking place.

In that time period of Geelong winning their last flag to now these are the teams who have won the premiership. 2012: Sydney, 2013, 2014, 2015: Hawthorn, 2016: Western Bulldogs, 2017: Richmond, 2018: West Coast Eagles, 2019& 2020: Richmond. You've had two drought breakers and some of the most successful sides in the modern era all winning premierships before you. Geelong are a very good regular season team these days but not so much when it comes to Grand Finals.
