Also, those heads came on late 86+ sbc. They came with the TBI engines. The vortec heads came in 96 to up to 02. The vortecs have vertical font and backside intake bolts and no center intake bolts. Only real good center bolt heads are those of the 5.7l vortec. The rest aren't worth taking off for any added power.

Chevy went to the center bolt valve covers in late ‘86 and I believe we’re available on ‘87 models. I believe that’s when they start TBI injection and roller lifters in Camaros and I would think Vettes as well. The roller lifter setup wasn’t used in the trucks until ‘96 when they introduced the Vortec. That looks like an older accessory drive kit though. Most center bolt truck engines, whether TBI or Vortec had serpentine belt setups.

Shine juice it. Freshen everything up, LS swap for functional drivability (or go through the current motor with some budget upgrades), especially if you are taking it on hot rod power tour and plan to use it a lot. Sure would look good with some Alcoa wheels on it.

I really enjoyed this episode. I subbed when you made the last video with the ramp truck. I'm glad you made the trip safely. I would get it working mechanically, probably the LS is best option. I know Derek's Monte LS had a lot of pricey computer and add ons. Can an LS swap be done more economical? Great find on the vgg flannel...$70 on the website. I think he ships his shirts and hats from that same building where you got the ramp truck in Lewisburg Tn.

Something to look into, be some work to do, is put a break in bed. You said ramps sort so go somewhere behind wheels and notch bed framework and let it fold down 5° or 10° and that give you shorter ramps needed. Just have to watch tail clearance. Other option is to use airbags for semi and make it so you can have air ride so you can dump air n get tail down. I'm building a ramp truck n it be air ride in rear. Design plan is no ramps needed

Haul car n pull trailer? All needs considered. I would do RV tow rig cam AVS2. Good mileage and power. My 77 run 4k with 4spd 4.10 750-16 on interstate. Enjoyed the video very much Chuck. You touch on diesel at the end of the video as a possibilty then mention that a Cummins would be too expensive. I'm on the other side of the Atlantic here where diesel is much more popular (because of our fuel costs) and I think you would like that torque profile very much with a heavy load on a long climb. Is the straight 6 your only realistic diesel option there? I'm thinking that there must be other things which get wrecked but still have a working oil burner.
@tturtle1659
@tturtle1659 Жыл бұрын
I'm on the "wrong" side of the Atlantic too - I think they also have some Isuzu COEs and similar with diesels in them but no clue what one would be over there. He's already got an LS which could do 15-20 MPG even on such a vehicle and their petrol prices are ridiculous, so...
@v6si
@v6si Жыл бұрын
@@tturtle1659 I thought a similar thing about fuel prices after making the comment tbh. An engine which he already owns leaves a lot of spare money for fuel. The fact that fuel is twice as expensive for us isn't an issue for him (though to be fair he's likely to do far longer journeys). As for the pulling power then I'm guessing that truck will be geared a little shorter already. Maybe the solution is a NOS bottle for the steep hills ;) Will be interesting to see what he does.

I know I'm seeing this and commenting 8 months later, so you might have already done what you're going to do with it, but if not: Use the big block for this and save the LS for something you want to drive fast. The big block gets 8 mpg unloaded, but probably about 8 towing a mobile home also. The LS needs to rev a bit more. You want torque for moving heavy loads and horsepower for speed.
