Lionel Messi just owns everybody. From premier league teams like Manchester City Manchester United Liverpool Chelsea Arsenal and Tottenham the traditional big 6, Real Madrid Atletico Madrid Bayern Munich PSG Juventus AC Milan etc he made some of the best defenders and goalkeepers in the world look so silly and he was able to beat these generational talents in big finals including his former teammates. Even one time in a game against Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone once refused to celebrate a goal Fernando Torres scored because he saw Messi warming up getting ready to come on the field. He’s a nightmare for everybody and I can’t believe that in a world where he doesn’t exist, Cristiano Ronaldo would win every Ballon dor Golden Boot and league title with Real Madrid since unfortunately he won just 2 but at least he’s Mr. Champions League and when he was at Manchester United, he did have the edge over Messi in terms of who was the best player in the world at the time. Even at international level he beat 2 of his former teammates in finals, Neymar in Copa America in 2021, and Kylian Mbappe in the World Cup final in 2022. The Copa America final was one of the most heated and roughest games I’ve ever seen and Neymar in that game was balling he played very well and Brazil were the better team, against his very good friend, won his first ever international tournament with Argentina and then Kylian Mbappe a player he had a very good partnership with at PSG tried to spoil his chances at winning the World Cup in 2022 and France were so bad and he was nowhere to be seen for the first 75 minutes of the game but the hat trick he scored got his country back in the game, once again Messi’s country won the final and he scored 2 goals in that game. The guy won 8 Ballon Dors and there was a feeling that he robbed some players of a Ballon Dor and going up against Lionel Messi you have to be even better than him as a collective and individual. His record against some of the best teams in the premier league, everyone says the premier league is the hardest league in the world and his stats the way he destroyed them on the biggest stage which is the champions league, imagine a peak Lionel Messi playing against teams like Everton and Bournemouth. He’s a destroyer and he’s just so good and it was very easy stat padding for him against mid table sides in La Liga like Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao and Messi is too much for all of us.

Most people whose football knowledge isn't limited to goal scoring only know that Messi is better when it comes to football than Ronaldo and that he is the GOAT of football. That notwithstanding, I think Ronaldo is a better example and role model for young players to emulate than Messi because of his hardwork ethics and resilient mentality. Because Messi is an anomaly and there are very very few people who will be lucky to be such anomaly.

Messi was also the 2nd highest Playmaker behind KDB. No one is saying that Kane does it in Bundesliga or Salah in Europa League or Ronaldo, who was in Saudi Arabia in the entire 2023. Messi played Champions League football. True, he was poor in both Bayern games in the Round of 16's and only played 4 MLS games, Scored 1, had 2 Assists, and won 3 because of fatigue Injuries, but u can't all blame it on him. But he was the most successful than Vini, Salah, and Kane by winning 2 trophies and the Ballon d'Or.
