US towns make a really good effort to brighten up the holidays. Great to see LaGrange from this angle for a change- only a half hour ago, I was watching a VRF vid of a train being split to free a trapped car. Thank you for sharing 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Look closely you can see the cams for a little bit. Around 1.11 you can see them being lit up by the head light on the locomotive just for a little bit then they fade into the darkness.

Just viewed this now. LaGrange is one of my frequent "stops" on VRF. I still am tickled how a quaint, inviting village has freight and commuter tracks smack dab in the middle of the road. What came first, the town or the tracks (chicken or the egg)? The track bedding at the beginning and end look quite tenuous. As a lover of all things Christmas, I commend LaGrange for such a marvelous display.

My hometown of Noblesville used to be just like Lagrange, even the buildings look the same. Except the traffic in downtown Noblesville is a lot worse and the train going through was just a local tourist train. They've since taken out all of the street running tracks, so the line ends at the north end of downtown. It's sad, but there's not really anything south of downtown to stop at since the next town over replaced their tracks with a bike path. I don't even want to think of how bad the traffic would be with the current construction and amount of cars while also having a train go through town.

@@LegoTrainFan92 yes, the old Monon (sp) line. It went right past my house in Fishers. I have not been back there for more than 30 years. As far as Noblesville goes, I remember Aunt Bee’s fried chicken. I doubt it is still there. There was also a good ice cream place there. When I say 30 years, I was 31 whe I moved away. Aunt Bee’s was a kid memory, so 45 plus years ago.🇩🇰

LaGrange's street running is freight-only. There may have been (okay, likely was) passenger service at one time long ago, as in steam era. (speculation) In situations like this, the railroad was there first, and the town grew up around it.

Whats the history for why a train track winds up in the middle of a town's road like that?
@kennethhanks67129 ай бұрын
When many US railroads built in mid 1800s, as this line between Louisville and Cincinnati most communities relied for the vast majority on the rail lines for meaningful transportation (your basic alternatives were walking or horse powered unless you were on a navigable waterway-which La Grange is not). Many communities, when a rail line was developed for them, actually preferred a central location for ease of access and use. Although many of the facilities for this early use now gone with modern road, etc development central downtown was where you had your passenger station (and its attendant express agencies), hotels, and even certain businesses that needed direct access to the rail line. In La Grange (and other like locations nationally) case the existing town layout and surrounding topography led to this kind of road/rail arrangement. When you shared with horse and buggy it was a good deal simpler!

how is this legal to do?? I thought all phones are banned on trains
@tablerockrailfan50782 жыл бұрын
If your moving, yes. But you can have your phone on a train. For example, if your stopped on a siding, you may take a little nap or use your phone.

Is that headlight bright enough? Ridiculous and disrespectful
@essartee76 Жыл бұрын
Yet, the first thing people say (if they survive) after being hit by a train is they didn't see of hear it. The headlights are required to be on bright, so no, it's not "disrespectful."😂😂

Only bad thing about riding a train is you get to see all the junk and crap in people's back yards lol.
