I was born in 1987. I grew up in the 90s. I never knew drugs available in the street. Since borders were open for foreigners that's where we started to have drug problems in the country. Apart from that, most of the foreigners came from uncivilized part of the continent. They came to South Africa and started to litter and misuse the infrastructure. Look at the buildings in the cities. Even a person from the township wouldn't like to live in those buildings. Honestly, they dont have good manners at all

The biggest lie that's forever told is that in Africa we are 1. There was never a 1 Africa even in ancient history. I get to laugh when someone says, these are our brothers and sisters. Just because u share the same phenotypes with someone doesn't mean u are 1 with that person. It also highlights that people do not travel. just here in Botswana and Zimbabwe, they make u feel that u are a foreigner in those countries. I think the reporting of this is very unfair, not only on Dudula but as well RSA. We genuinely have a deep-rooted problem of illegal immigration that needs sorting out before it becomes worse. Each time someone tries to have an open debate about SA immigration, the media says xenophobia, violence, and hatred of black Africans. It is not like that! We have progressive immigration laws, policies, and child-first protection laws. Special work permits, asylum seekers, etc. But for the last 15 years, it's been a real playground for foreigners walking in and out as they wish. They open multimillion rand cash businesses, no passport, no asylum, just drive in and out. The general public wants something done, and good-willing SAn's want something done. The South African Industries in the form of factories, mining, commercial farms, railways, harbours, roads, airports, dams, electrification, forestry, car manufacturing plants, etc were built on the backs of all the citizens of South Africa long before there was a huge influx of the people who came after 1994. Likewise all Industry in Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Angola, etc were built by people of these countries and they need to improve on them to make them great industrial countries, why must it be different when it comes to South Africa? Why South Africa should be vilified and be condemned when it only wants is to protect what is in its space? For the whole of Africa to become great its inhabitants need to stop this habit of running away from problems and face problems head on with a view to sort them out and make our individual countries great, instead of running away disguised as 'seeking greener pastures'.

It's the stupidity for me. As a black South African, I'd like to ask where is this energy, when it comes to the actual foreigners, the white minority that hordes all the wealth in this country and also controls this country? This sense of ethnic group supremacy is what helped get us colonised in the first place, all this infighting is distracting you from the bigger picture and we're never not gonna be de-colonised or get out of this neo-apartheid state anytime soon if we carry on like this. Side note: Within South Africa and the countries that boarder her, we are all, if not all, then most of us are part of the Bantu peoples. The boarders of South Africa were made by the Dutch and British and so were the other boarders by other European countries. Everytime England has a problem, their news channels run stories of other countries having similar issues but much much worse. Its like clock work.

Isn't it funny that channel 4 think this is in any way new for South Africa or, anywhere in Africa for that matter... Funnier still that when it's whites with this behaviour against any race, even other whites, channel 4 call it racism. But here they call it xenophobia. Of course neither label are true, it's just an attempt to cast such people as outliers when it's really how the majority feel. It isn't just hard economic times, hard economic times just make people drop the pretence of socially acceptable tolerance masking their true feelings. Whether it's South Africa, Kenya, Argentina, Texas, Poland, or the UK, the people all say the same things. They're worried about IRREGULAR or UNCONTROLLED border crossings (which they call illegal), increase in crime, undercutting of local merchants and a dilution or evaporation of existing culture. They say those things independent of their own skin colour or that of the migrants. Their worries only increase the poorer the source country and the more different their culture. Not because they're foreign or because they're afraid of their cultures, the same people welcome legal immigration. It's about having control over ones borders, knowing people let in aren't a safety risk, that people let in will provide a greater benefit to the community than they receive in return and will assimilate into the existing culture.

The issues are real most of the time. The reactions are repulsive to say the least. Having said that, any township person will tell you that it is true that most of the time, you will find that fake and stale products/brands are from foreign nationals. Undercutting of prices is real too. Drugs too. Most foreigners though are here to better themselves and their families. The idea that everyone is bad is ridiculous. When you have too many immigrants crowding into places where they are not suppose to use services, I can see why South Africans are so concern, they will be left out and medical services/medicines are finite or limited. How many immigrants does South Africa have? How many are there illegally? How many have permits?

If a certain country does not treat you well, Then you pack up and go home. Same as if you rent a house and the landlord does not treat you right, the onus is on you the tenant to find another place and move out, you don't waste ppls time and data and make one sided documentaries about you landlord.

Your noble attempt at trying to expose the problem is barking at the wrong tree. The right tree to bark at is the many failed states that are the reason why South African major city centres are overcrowded by their own citizens and those from the rest of Africa, South Asia and Eastern Europe. It doesn't help that all these people don't have means to live among the affluent communities of South Africa, they live among those of similar means who happen to be the marginalised of the society. It therefore should not be surprising to see poor Africans fighting among each other for limited resources and those with home ground advantage will win by virtue of sheer numbers and sovereign right. The ratio of police officers to inhabitants has been significantly impacted such that policing crime including enforcement of city by-laws and immigration laws of the country has been difficult. It is therefore in this ambit that formations like Operation Dudula came to be, to root out illegality in the cities. It then becomes ironic that illegal foreigners would call for help from the police as it is the same lack of policing that made them come and settle in the city. The reality is that South African cities shall never be haven to illegal immigrants again, it is about time that those who are affected to start looking for other greener pastures for the situation is no longer attainable. My advice to the jornalist is for him to do a complete story including the reason why people who come from dysfunctional societies like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, DRC, Pakistan, Afganistan, Syria and Ukraine among others should be allowed to contaminate our society with the same unrest that they fled from. Many people from these countries are not socially rehabilitated to be fit to live among locals because many of them have been psychologicaly and pyachiatrically affected by the conditions prevailing in the countries they fled from. You cannot expect marginalised communities in South Africa to be turned into and extension of psychiatric wards of mental hospitals from the countries I earlier alluded to. Where do you think the many child soldiers in many civil conflicts run to when they leave conflict zones, many of them live among our marginalised communities yet they are walking killing machines. Enough is enough, not so long ago the black people of South Africa were enduring apartheid, and now this? When will our people ever experience real freedom?

in south africa there is no doubt that illegal foreigners have unfortunately brought elements of criminality, however there a skilled laboreres that are in SA as well. Nonetheless, the SA government should be putting SA citizens first - you cannot solve the issues of the world without solving your own issues first. There needs to be aa revamp of the immigration stance in that tougher border controls, clearer legislation and being able to annex illegal cizitens - or a thorough refugee system - in order to benefit south africans. I don't agree with the treatment of illegal immigrants from locals but it is born out of an economic desperation. The government has failed us in yet another category.
