Rich Eisen all the power to you!!! I totally agree. Cheating is wrong, it's bad for the game, it's dishonest, it's deceitful, and it is not good sportsmanship. I don't care what kind of cheating it is, whether your using devices or not using devices, it should never be acceptable to cheat under any circumstances. That is the message that should be made clear in the MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, and any other sport.

David Evans no im not, it’s called standing up against all cheating, including the decades of steroid abuse that manipulated and hurt the entire game, not just pretending the Astros are somehow the worst pinnacle of cheating.
@etamommy4 жыл бұрын
@@johnnolan2356 Well John I'm an admittedly biased Yankee fan and hate the Astros because they have destroyed the Yankees over the past few years- just dominated them. Now of course this adds fuel to the fire. Maybe everyone is doing it but I don't think so. I think the Astros were cocky brazen and somewhere along the line established a group think led by a few who either never had a moral compass or whose moral compass fell by the wayside. I think until proven otherwise the level of cheating that Astros practice (not putting in past tense yet) is the absolute pinnacle, as you so aptly put it. I hope I am correct. Steroid abuse was not a team-wide system as far as I know and it never resulted in batters systematically taking the element of surprise away from pitchers through illegal means.
@johnnolan23564 жыл бұрын
David Evans Hey David, I agree with many of the things you’ve said. I would add these notes: think about Barry bonds and his 750 HR’s. Think about how many games he affected by cheating. Think about all the guys that organized on teams across the league cheating for years with performance enhancing drugs. And don’t take this as a hit to your Yankees, its not meant to be at all: but in 2017 Beltran worked for the Astros and we all know what happened. But in 2018 Beltran worked for the Yankees and Alex Cora (in a now famous video after losing to the Yankees) said he was the Yankees ‘best acquisition, because I know how he works and he looks for the details.’ From an MLB source online (who is hiding their identity at the moment) Beltran was involved with cheating incidents with the Astros and Yankees, that was what Cora was hinting about in the video because they did it together on the Astros. Both Cora and Beltran were indicted in the report as being mainly responsible for this cheating. Sports illustrated said that ‘as many as 7 other teams could have cheated like this.’ I hope none of that is true and that it ends with the Astros. But my point is this: over the years the mlb has looked the other way when teams had organized steroid use and when there was cheating problems (like the Red Sox Apple watches) up until they boiled over. I think the MLB needs to take responsibility for their lack of regard in all of this too because their lack of action allows this behavior. A lot of this is preventable if they would act earlier and with more regard.
@timbobjustthefacts67124 жыл бұрын
Rich is hinting at this. Astros fan so I'll get that out of the way. I don't like cheating one iota because it tarnishes Houston's ONLY WS title. But, if as a player, Manager, GM you believe everyone else is using the exact same scheme because of known facts and other observations, do you really feel like you're cheating, or do you feel you're leveling the playing field? MLB will use the Astros and Red Sox as an example to hopefully stop this practice. I don't believe MLB wants a league-wide investigation because it may reveal more damaging info and bring about more bad publicity. If in this day and age of real time electronics you can't control the illegal usage because it's just too hard to police, allow ALL teams to openly use this technology. The playing field would be even and all teams have the exact same chance to figure out signs. And if you don't allow this, take the #### monitors out and ban ALL electronic anything within a clubhouse. What did we see in the last WS, iPads/Pros? Why in the world would MLB lift their ban on smart phones and tablets when paranoia of espionage is so rampant, and probably more widespread than people realize? As Jesse Dougherty reported shortly after this scandal first appeared, "But while the Astros have drawn most of the scrutiny, and not without reason, many within the industry believe electronic sign-stealing is a problem throughout the game." "While the Astros sit at the center of this controversy, all of baseball will be watching closely to see how MLB responds. In the digital age, it is fair to speculate every team in the sport has been either a victim or a perpetrator of electronic sign-stealing, or quite possibly both."
@johnnolan23564 жыл бұрын
I think the mlb needs to take responsibility for all of this too. Far too often scandals get overlooked and slaps on the wrist are handed out until it’s become a major problem. How many years of steroids does it take to crack down? How many years of video monitor cheating before a crackdown? The MLB should realize that not taking a more hand on approach to policing teams is providing an incentive for cheating to happen.
@johnnolan23564 жыл бұрын
Martin Leavitt yep I completely agree, as far as I’m concerned the MLB needs to apologize for their lack of regard with policing all of the teams appropriately. Just like steroids this stuff goes on for years and it only makes the game worse buts it’s only called out once the damage is done and the problems boiling over. They are responsible for the integrity of the game, this is their failure too.

David Evans I agree, I don’t think it’s ok for some people to say cheating is ok because ‘other people are doing it’. There’s a reason Joe Jackson, et al, and Pete Rose were banned from baseball. Any player known to have cheated should similarly have been banned. Jackson and Rose were involved with gambling. Today, gambling is prevalent in society. Cheating completely alters the outcome of games. Not only are contract incentives affected, so are bets placed. At some point, this will affect the wrong loser, or someone wanting to place a large bet will find out about the insider trading.
