Okay guys.. just a quick reminder! Comments like “Lori reacted the way she did because…” or “this is the episode people really started disliking Lori”, effect how I think, make inferences, and react to the show. They may not seem like spoilers, but I have not got hindsight like you guys, so all future conversations between characters, arcs, etc… I’m unaware of, but sometimes can make inferences about with these mini spoiler-ish comments. I really want to engage with you guys, so I’m considering avoiding the comments as a final resort. I hope I can count on y’all 🤗❤️

I am at 12:07 I am glad there is some kind of democracy.. I laughed so hard thinking of the last dialogue of this episode 😅 EDIT: to be fair rick had a point.. in case of sophia they had safety and comfort of the farm, a roof on heads, food.. so they could go out everyday and search for her.. but now there are 2 things : with a hoard that big Andrea is either dead.. or if she survives she wouldn't be anywhere near the farm.. she would have escaped from there... Now Rick and others don't have a safe place for themselves... they are out there in open with walkers around.. it's also his responsibility to take them somewhere safe and not lose more people (well not rick's responsibility but he kinda took it on himself to keep them safe) so when in the farm the rest of the group could stay safe in the house and few of them could go search for Sophia.. now they have lost that luxury... that's what i love about this show.. how are you going to make decisions when your situations keep deteriorating.. will you put the life of all of them in risk for one? or hold on to whoever you are left with and take them to safety first?

Rick gave the option, if you don’t think I can keep you safe than you can go and survive on your own but if you stay you can’t keep second guessing every decision I make to keep you safe. I don’t understand why everyone compares Rick being stern to turning into Shane when Rick has always been a better judge of character and someone that has plenty of forethought as opposed to Shane who is always a quick decision with no other thought to anyone else. Daryl I think would make a good leader but with the way he acts and how standoffish he is sometimes with the group he would not make a good leader currently.
@KamandaHickey
@KamandaHickey Жыл бұрын
On the contrary I do think that Shane had a good influence on him. Rick was already a leader but he used to let people get into his head too much.
@bassorellichiara3983
@bassorellichiara3983 Жыл бұрын
Honestly I would have reacted so much worse than Rick if everyone were complaining and doubting me the way they were with Rick. Rick never asked to be the leader and did everything for the group, I understand everyone was still in shock from loosing the farm but that is exactly why Rick had to step up. Of course it is normally better if the decisions are made as a group but nobody else was in state of doing that, I mean Glenn and Maggie wanting to go on a run alone or the group wanting to wander off in the middle of the night was just stupid. (I do believe Daryl and Glenn have leadership in them, but they are not ready to step up like Rick is, I mean he was a sheriff after all). And as Rick clearly said, nobody was stopping them from leaving, if they thought they could do better than him, leave and do it, don´t just sit and expect to be saved. But to be fair, it is so different reacting to certain things after watching the whole show because we have another perspective of what the characters and show becomes, so I totally understand your opinion. That is why this show is so good, you get to change and learn how that world works alongside the characters.

Yeah, I think people forget for Dan and the characters, it's literally only been a few days since episode 1. And not very long at all in-universe since Rick woke up! Maggie & Hershel have hardly ever been off the farm! This is all new to them.

I don’t think keeping the information about everyone being infected to himself was a bad call. At the time he found out just about everyone had hope and faith to survive, would that not have changed if they all knew and just decided to opt out thinking there was no hope? Rick didn’t even have proof it was true until after he killed Shane that what the doctor said was even true.
@DanReadd
@DanReadd Жыл бұрын
Yeah… but I think as a group, people felt the need transparent leadership. Also, I am a firm believer that they have a right to understand the situation they’re in. Maybe it would’ve changed things, maybe not… it’s definitely a tough call which I’m not sure I’d have made. But hey, that’s what makes this show fantastic! Moral vs practical decisions, I feel we all polarise along this continuum!

I’m SO glad that you don’t blame Lori for anything that happened between herself, Rick, and Shane. I also want to say that Lori’s angered reaction at Rick isn’t necessarily about the actual Shane murder. (Im only discussing past episode of season 2 in this comment so no worries about spoilers or anything!) A lot of people see Lori slapping Rick away as part of her reaction about Shane, but notice how her attitude only becomes that way when Rick mentions Carl putting down walker Shane. Thinking back to earlier episodes of s2, such as episode 3, where Lori talks about Jacqui’s death and wondering if Carl passing away would be better than him growing up to become animalistic in an apocalypse. Then later in episode 8, when Rick is going to leave to find Hershel, Lori says he shouldn’t leave because Carl mentioned wanting to be the one to put down Sophia, and thinks that he’s becoming cold already and needed Rick’s influence, and that now that he’s actually gone and put down someone he loved, especially in the company of Rick, she thinks that he hasn’t properly protected Carl from growing “cold” as she feared. Lori gets ostracized a lot so I’m just happy to see a reactor and fan that actually appreciates her and character! I love talking about and sharing discussions with other TWD fans and I can’t wait to see you start the next season! ❤️

Absolutely agree with all of that. Yes, the whole "my family is off limits to you." followed by her getting annoyed with Shane a few episodes later that he was so indifferent towards Carl, is a bit confusing. However, Lori wanting her child to retain his humanity is so understandable . As a mother myself, it would terrify me to have my son living in a situation where he couldn't just be a child.

I think Rick was right with taking complete Ricktatorship over the group. They essentially are nothing but whining children at this point. Everyone was ready to run like headless chickens from the smallest noise. Children need strong parenting and that's what it looked to me. Rick had to step up to be the ultimate father. You're lucky to go straight to season 3. I remember walking around just hating Lori for a whole summer😆 She was so freaking wrong in pushing Rick away, especially after that little speech she whispered in his ear few episodes back. What a Jezebel.

going to find andrea would've put the whole group at risk. they were just overrun by thousands of walkers, a lot of the group died, they had no supplys, no idea where andrea was. i've said this before but you got to have a more nuanced view to not only enjoy the show but interpret the characters thoughts and actors, this is not a society like ours, it's a zombie apocalypse. it's about survival, not being good. granted these are not exclusionary, but survival comes first, being good comes second.
@DanReadd
@DanReadd Жыл бұрын
I think my issue with this scene came with Rick waiting for Lori, then switching when she arrived. Like it was clear he wanted very desperately to wait for his wife (which is perfectly understandable lol.), I guess my question is, what if Andrea was a missing mother, or wife in this scenario. Even if logic still says I’m wrong with this thinking, what really frustrates me is a lack of attempt to leave her a message. I think for me this shows that priorities wise, Andrea meant a lot less than perhaps Sophia, or Lori. I just disagree with this. Maybe I’m reading into it too much who knows. Maybe the argument is that someone saw Andrea head off alone, unlike Lori or Hershalls family, perhaps this factored in idk 🤷

You have to give him time to adjust. We are still fairly new in this world. You are wanting him to adopt a world view even characters living through it have not adopted. I say stop telling him how to think or feel and let him develop naturally, like the rest of us did.
@KamandaHickey
@KamandaHickey Жыл бұрын
The reason people blame Lorie is because she didn’t let Shane leave when he wanted to. She knew he was in love with her. It was best for him to get out of the love triangle. If so, he should still be alive. But even though I don’t like her, I think that she react that way because she was shocked but at the same what did she expect? Also at the end, Rick gave the group a chance to leave. At this point I think Rick was sick of everybody trying to give their opinions but holding him accountable for everything. They needed a leader. You can tell that Shane had some influence on him.

I don't think Lori is upset over Rick killing Shane. I think k she believes him. That it was self defense. But she is upset because Carl was the one who put down walker Shane. She is worried about what that does to Carl. She always wanted to protect Carl. And that was an adult act. And that is what upset her.

@Kamanda Hickey Watch it again. She is with Rick through the entire conversation. She starts out with a "hug" position. She pulls back her arms, but leaves her hands on his arm and shoulder. Gives his one arm a little squeeze. She is listening. Trying to take it in. She gets to have that "punch to the gut" reaction as well, without it meaning anything against Rick. Hell, even Rick got to cry about it. "This was not me! This was you! Why? Not me!" Well, Lori gets the same consideration. Look at her expression. She isn't angry. She is in shock. She feels guilty for them fighting. She is worried about what this does to Rick. And no matter what, she did care for Shane. She is trying to come to grips with him being gone. It is ONLY when he says "Carl put him down" that her expression changes. She snarls at him. Then bends over because the information makes her feel like she is either gonna pass out, or puke. When Rick reaches for her, that is when she pulls away. No matter what, Lori has stood beside Rick. Supported him. Even if she disagreed. She knew Shane was dangerous. She knows Rick is telling the truth. She also wants to keep Carl a baby. Doesn't want him to carry a knife. Or learn how to use a gun. And now, not only has Carl had to put down someone. But he put down Shane. Someone he was close to. Someone he loved. THAT is what Lori can't forgive. And it shows in the scene.
@DanReadd
@DanReadd Жыл бұрын
Yeah I did mention this could be the cause in my post reaction discussion! I also said during the scene that I was adamant not to make my mind up yet, as the scene was kinda ambiguous! I think I also mentioned it again in my E1 s3 reaction. I think people are looking for a reason to protect Rick. Obviously he’s the focal protagonist, which I guess a lot of people identify with! Perhaps if more of the story was portrayed through Lori, it’d change our perceptions 🤷‍♂️

I don't hate Lori, not really. She irritates me a lot, but so do other characters. The main reason I lost respect for Lori was in this episode when she shoves Rick away and looks at him with that pure disgust and fury. Her husband has had to murder his best friend, his brother, and not only does his wife not offer him empathy and comfort, she shames him. It makes me sick honestly. Even if that wasn't her intention (as some folks suggest) and her anger was about Carl shooting walker Shane, there's still zero communication here. Not even a "I'm so sorry, I know you need me right now, but I need a minute to myself" or something. This is literally a major traumatic event for Rick that was set in motion by her words. It's inexcusable.

There have been many times, Dan, that I've read through these comments and given a very loud and British tut thinking: that's a spoiler, that is! I feel for you when it's hard enough to avoid the Disney+ thumbnails 🙄 I recall feeling this episode was a tough watch - not for being bad, it wasn't, but just for the amount of drama and conflict between so many characters we root for, so many of them seemingly having no clue what to do. I wanted them so badly to all to come together in a group hug but, instead, they seemed to be driving each other apart... and it hurt! Amazing writing, and convincing acting from the ensemble cast. Sarah Wayne Callies really sold it to me that she was pissed and conflicted over what Rick was saying and could not properly process the circumstances of Shane's death. Great stuff!

So what is she going to do, go for the closest thing to her maybe even the closest thing she had to her husband which was his Best friend & colleague. Doesn’t seem like she could have made it her own, especially carrying around a small child. If I had the opportunity as a woman to come across a man, even one that I didn’t know, he wanted to be there for me & my boy, if it meant we had a large chance to stay alive, I would more than likely do anything I could for him. Lori was the one to tell Rick that he should kill Shane. Then when he does, she loses it? I don't get it.

I kinda viewed it like this… Lori was panicking about the information Dale had presented to her, so she made a rash decision to see where Rick stood in regard to a situation that could arise about a problematic group, or out-group member. She merely wanted to make sure he was ready to mark a hard choice, if he had to. I view this very differently to her directly saying “you need to kill Shane”, which isn’t quite what she said. Maybe Rick interpreted it differently, maybe Rick took her too literally, but that’s really on him in my eyes! Not to say he made the wrong decision (I don’t think he did), just trying to help people understand Lori.

I think people blame Lori because she started sleeping with Shane super quick after her husband ‘died.’ Then Rick shows up and she gives Shane mixed signals. Then she basically tells Rick that she’s afraid of Shane, and on and on. She is at least half the reason Rick and Shane had issues. When I saw her reaction to Rick telling her he’d killed Shane, I was done with her.

I don't believe in the whole Lori influenced or manipulated two grown men. They can make decisions for themselves. However, Lori is incredibly annoying and frustrating in how wishy washy she is. I believe Lori saw where Shane and Rick made up for each other's...flaws..if that makes sense. She saw where each man was lacking and tried to play them off of each other for her benefit, in order to create one man with all the best traits. Even before the collapse she and Rick had issues with their marriage but Shane is too unstable. So she's...I guess caught between a rock and a hard place where she's having to depend on men who she doesn't seem to get along with well in one way or another.

I completely agree. She cannot be blamed for the actions of others. Sure she’s had an influence, but that doesn’t put the knife in her hand! I also agree she is annoyingly back and fourth about things. BUT, what I will say, is I have complete sympathy. The apocalypse is an unprecedented situation for us, and it’ll elicit different things in different people. She definitely gets too much blame, but isn’t void of her criticism!

@@DanReadd thank you for have sympathy. that’s what a lot of twd fans lack for her! i truly cannot for the life of me understand how people can say she’s the worst of the show because she wasn’t a bad person at all. she made mistakes like the rest of them. but she loved her husband and her child. it’s so messed how the fandom talks about her. ik this is all fictional but it still breaks my heart, she deserved better. (double checked to see if i was spoiling but you’re already up to season 5! enjoying your reactions btw!😌)

Thing is, Lori did pit Shane against Shane and motivated Rick to go after Shane a few episodes ago. It's crazy to think that Lori lived longer than Shane. One big mistake of the show besides killing Sophia so early on and Dale.
