Even if you feel it's wrong; you have to let people make their own decisions. You can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved. Negan was already dead, and he wanted others to hate him so that they might have the guts to kill him one day and reunite him with his lost wife. But he became amused when he saw how many people were willing to submit to him and give up themselves. That whole "I am Negan" wasn't a pledge of loyalty; it was a vow of submission. Negan found it amusing. He could tell Rick and so many others hated him, and he was eager to stoke that fire to see if one of them might just be strong enough to do what others weren't willing to do. That's why he respected Carl so much; Carl never cowered to him. He looked him in the eye and stood his ground every time. Negan knows Maggie can't forgive him, and he doesn't expect it. He wouldn't begrudge her at all if she killed him. He knows he deserves it. But the longer he stays alive, the further away from his wife he remains. It's crazy how the minute they put someone else in charge of the show and booted Gimple out, the writing improved immediately. Characters suddenly sounded a lot more natural when they spoke. Easy for Daryl to say "Just let him go..." its not his son that died. I know he cared as much for Carl but he should think twice before saying something like that, especially to someone who recently lost a child. Then again at this time in the show I think its been almost two years after Carl's death. Still though; this was Rick's whole purpose since the beginning, to keep his loved ones safe and their legacy alive.
@jacksparrow43695 жыл бұрын
I think that if anyone should be the one to say that to him its daryl because of the bond that they have developed over 5 years of surviving together.Rick can really absorb the weight of those words when it comes from him.
@haidenjennings94395 жыл бұрын
While I get where you both are coming from, this doesn't change the fact that Rick was only looking out for his son's best interest. Maybe it was the way they shot the scene or how they acted out the characters, but imo Daryl came off as kind of arrogant. This is also why I think he should choose his words more carefully when talking to Rick or anyone whose just lost their kid. Until you get to experience what its like to become a parent and raise a child, this person is the only thing that matters with most going toward any length in order to protect them, even after they're gone. Imagine switching the roles, with Rick telling Daryl the same thing about his brother when he found that Merle had survived and was living with The Governor. Although this wasn't Daryl's son/daughter a sibling/brotherly bond can be just as strong. Daryl at the time felt like Rick was being unfair of not letting Merle into the group after working with the enemy and due to their previous history with one another. Rick feels very much the same way here, now that Daryl has been pretty reluctant in honouring Carl by not following Rick's cause when trying to bring about his son's vision of the future into reality. Although these examples are entirely different from eachother, I still am in agreement and can understand with each of their perspectives.

It's like the head and the heart, both have pros and cons in their decisions. However, Daryl wasn't wrong in some of his points.

Mussolini wasn't executed by a state he was shot by communist partisans. I would also counter and say Phillips petain is a good example of the reverse. He was not executed by France for collaboration, he spent the remainder of his life in prison and there were no fascist uprisings in France.

@@mappingshaman5280 Exactly, and that's a good point that Rick brings up constantly. What Negan was is gone now, and Daryl is right when he says that he deserves to die, but Maggie literally got to Alexandria and saw a former shell of a man, because Rick made the decision to imprison him, which broke his spirit, it made him think of everyone he's done to the point where he WANTED to die. The Saviours seeing a fate worse than death for him is the reason why there wasn't really any uprisings from them, just tension between the two groups. This is why I love The Walking Dead sm, it sparks conversations like this.

Glenn would still be alive if it wasn't for Negan. Negan made his decision, and Negan was always gonna find an excuse to kill someone else no matter what. Negan usually kills one member of each group he subjugated. Alexandria killed Negan's men prior to their subjugation, so Negan was always gonna kill 2. Glenn's fate was sealed when he jumped out of line when Negan threatened Maggie. It was a ruse to see who would jump out, so he could pick another victim after Abraham (who already intimidated Negan by glaring at him).

The delivery of “I never asked anyone to follow me “is so good. Every death like Glenn and Abraham is a consequence of his decision whether he likes it or not and that will sit with him forever. Same with Daryl because he’ll carry Glenn’s death and the guilt with him for the rest of his life

I love how everyone still blames him for negan n never owned up to it, but the last episode I watched for a while was the episode where Dayrl confessed to Maggie and Maggie forgave him. I see people are being angry at Dayrl in the comments n saying he never owned up to it. N he isn't saying to let go of Carl. He's saying to let go of Negan. If he didn't then why would he say he'd die for Carl???

Late, but thank you! I'm so sick of people constantly blaming and bashing Daryl for everything, but never blaming anyone else. Rick is just as guilty as Daryl and so is Negan and yet they get so many passes smh

Maggie doesn't blame Daryl. Not a bit. She knows Daryl's love and loyalty to his family and understands that he NEVER imagined that anyone would be punished except himself. It's Daryl who blames himself.

What people often do not talk about is that Rick did not want to lose one more brother like he lost Shane. During the war against the Saviors, Daryl was transforming into Shane 2.0… Rick wanted to save Daryl

I dont get why people know everything about the comics but yet are so mad at Daryl for Glenn dying. That was glenn's death either way. They just made it have more of a dramatic consequence if Daryl didnt hit him Rosita would probably be dead because she wouldn't look at Abraham. He was protecting his people.

1:14 that scene is inverted. I'm just curious, why would they do that? I noticed because I'm in love with Rick's facial expressions and eveytime he's mad he raises the right eyebrow, but that is the left one. besides when he raises his hand he's got the watch in the right hand and he always carries it in the left one (like everyone) I know its a useless fact but I couldn't help but noticing lol
