1: The apocalypse is still new, which means so are the walkers, that's why it's harder to kill them early on. 2: Robert Kirkman, who wrote the comics, set it in a universe where nobody knew what a "zombie" is. 3: The first episode is usually the taste-test in a show, so moving forward, you might notice discrepancies with how the walkers act. “Unless they have reserves…” Possibly, years ago I worked in a hospital kitchen. I don’t know about the water reserves. But, we were required to have four years worth of backup food. Just in case a war or something happened and it was hard deliveries.

This is not a spoiler because it’s not mentioned in the show but Rick was in the hospital for 59 days 2 months which does explain why the flowers died and why the Zombie Apocalypse already started.

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this yet, but I’ve heard that the first body he sees in the hospital is a nurse who stayed behind to take care of him and had died shortly before he woke up

First episode was on Halloween of 2010, and that's when I started watching. However long your journey is, it won't be as long as it's been for those of us who started watching on day 1, so count yourselves lucky.

Its so striking gow different Rick is here compared to later. The way he cares for that first zombie.

you're asking the right questions; and so are the fans, for 11 seasons. you'll get some answers, especially about episode 1, at the end. until then, have fun, and don't forget that the franchise has 2 more series, plus a new one that just started, and one more to come. it's a whole universe!

I believe Rick was in a coma for a little over a month, but he just happened to wake up after the last stand of the military presence there, as you guys have already seen in later episodes. When Shane blocked Ricks door that was likely 2 or 3 days prior to him waking up as a hospital generator usually keeps things running for about 24 hours(so if the IV was pump based it would still work till the bad is empty). We can also reasonably say that the nurses likely kept watch and care until the very last minute before the military swarmed in. The military would have to allert the hospital of potentially needing to move patients so a fresh IV would have been placed. Soon before the last stand. The average single IV bag can keep you hydrated for around 4. The nutrients can stay in your body for weeks or months, so he is fine on that front. This all means he woke up 2 or 3 days after the hospital was abandoned. This time would also make sense based on the flowers. If we assume those flowers were brought 1 or 2 days prior to the last stand there, then it would make them be 4 or 5 days old, which is how they look. The woman in the hallway is just very eaten away. We can see by her fact that she isn't decayed yet, so that also shows us that it is relatively fresh.

I remember watching the first episode Halloween night 2010. After watching the first episode and being so excited for the next I realized I forgot to turn on the porch lights so the kids knew to stop and get candy from us. I went to the front door, looked out into the dark yard seeing nothing until I turned on the porch light and there were suddenly at least 10 to 15 kids walking in costumes throughout my yard and street who all at once stopped dead in their tracks, turned their heads to me then all at once came to my porch for trick of treating. A talk about creepy after watching the premiere of the first ever zombie apocalypse tv show. Memories!

Based on his facial hair growth and the flowers I’d say it’s probably been around 2 weeks to a month that Rick was unattended in the hospital.

The fact this is 1 of 8 shows that are connected to this universe 2 spin offs that are coming out 2023 1 has already started and the other later this fall and another spin off to air next year 2024 so it’s like a 13 year journey this year from 2010 😂

There are a few web episodes called Torn Apart that tells the short story of that Walker that was half a body. It came out in 2011 between the end of season 1 and before season 2 began.

They are called Variants in season 11. They climb over walls and onto roofs. Walker variants use tools like rocks. They think abstractly and have a sense of their surroundings. Help other zombies find food & overcome obstacles. They were in the first season but not seen or really motioned until season 11.

My thing was his family didnt bring a bag of clothes to the hospital for him while he was in a coma?. No shoes, pants, a shirt. The little things. lol

Definitely worth it to keep going woth this show, not only because youll love it but because everyone else already does love it, even if you dont get your views and like right away they will definitely come, especially once you start getting to the "better" parts of the series, yall could stretch this out to almost 2 years of content if you want lol

Actually the Zombies from Dawn Of The Dead (1978) were kind of like this. They still kept memories of their life and what they used to do when they were living.

S1 walkers remembered certain things as S1 had a different show runner, him being fired after S1 is the same reason the actor for Dale left. Plus S2E1 was meant to show the story of the tank walker who was played by Sam Witwer

The story peaks in different seasons imo, and it doesn't happen very often in the last few seasons, but it does happen consistently up until then imo.

This is a great reminder of how great this show used to be.

Don't let the "smart" zombie fool you (or the ones that can climb or use a rock). There was a producer or director the fist season and a half that wasn't following the "script".

Something to note with the zombies in the first season and a half is they were trying to figure out how the zombies would function so dont read to much into the "smart" ones you see early on. Rick was in a coma for about 4wks and yes there is an explanation on how he survived but its in one of the webisodes that came out later and its not really recommended to watch those until you are further along because some of them contain spoilers.

The most upsetting part for me whenever I watch the first episode is the horse dying… I always cry when that happens.

I used to watch this show religiously. The bu**er, the farm, the pri**n, the station, the walled town (with the W guys), up until the start of the vasal towns. Then life got busy.

You will not regret starting it. I wish I could watch it again for the first time
