I wish KZfaq and phones with videocameras were around when I was a teenager so I could have recorded my swing anytime I wanted to see what I was doing wrong because seeing it and having someone tell you are 2 different things. It would’ve been nice to watch a video with some tips and then try them right then when it’s fresh in your mind. @@antsjohnson6617 whether or not a person has played as a pro themselves has little to no bearing on that person's capacity to coach at a pro level. This is true no matter what the sport is, and is born out by taking even a cursory glance at the personal histories of many of the truly legendary coaches throughout sporting history. Injuries, personal circumstances (finances, family etc), racial or religious exclusion and amateur code affiliations are just some of the reasons that may prevent a person from being as successful a player as they are a coach. Also, with sports science being as advanced as it is today, with sports theory being as advanced as it is, and with level 3 accreditations being as difficult to obtain as they are, many people decide to hit uni or go into coaching apprenticeships, straight from junior or amateur careers. As an extreme example, my coach didn't even begin _playing_ until he was 40 years old - but still became one of the most successful and respected coaches in the state! All that said tho, I ain't from the US, and I've never hit a baseball in my life, so with this content here... Well, I wouldn't have a _clue._ Anyway, have a good one! 🙃

The method being taught here is giving you less chance of hitting the ball, and more chance of just hitting pop flys if you do. The fact of the matter is not everyone have power like Aaron Judge, you don’t teach batters to swing like this because you take away bat surface in the zone and less ability to adapt to moving pitches. Hitting is the concept of bunting. You don’t bunt with your bat vertical.

People always get this confused with dropping the barrel, you’re not, it’s the correct bat path to optimize chances of getting a hit and keep the barrel in the zone the longest. If you keep this bat path even when caught off guard on breaking balls you still have a good chance of piecing a ball up and not rolling over. for anyone saying this is wrong, you’ve probably never been coached by someone who actually understood hitting at a high level. It’s actually surprising how many people are saying this is wrong, or have never learned this before. Go watch a slow mo swing of trout or Griffey, they do the exact same things. The only time you don’t is when a ball is thrown in the top half of the strike zone because you have to get on top of the ball. However, even then you still see them do this, it’s just not as pronounced because they have to adjust to something up in the zone.

This seems like a recipe for a lot of ground outs. You are only hitting a line drive or launching the ball if you are ahead of the pitch, assuming you barreled the ball. What is the thought process behind training for this kind of barrel path?

Of course, if you're not tall enough for the angle of the bat to be down, the swing will be more flat.
