I imagine Waluigi was planned at some point but was removed for either system limitations or a lack of ideas for the character. It's pretty much the same thing for Luigi in the original Mario 64.

I remember one of the rumors to unlock him was to shoot Mario with the canon at the castle window you see in the file select menu. I tried so many times to no avail, I think by brain grew a little bit that day 😅

Aw man this makes me happy. I remember playing this game in 2012 and asking my dad to look up how to unlock Waluigi. Simpler times

Honestly the craziest part is the Waluigi rumours definitely made sense and all the evidence pointed to him being a real hidden character. How it was actually believed you were supposed to unlock him though was kinda werid. after getting 151 stars, hit a weirdly placed piece of the castle with the cannon as Yoshi (And yes that part is actually in the game which made this crazier.). After this you will be taken to a weird room, (reminiscent of a debug room) with Waluigis painting in it. The level to get Waluigi is an absolute gruelling challenge that has segements requiring the use of every character, which is why Yoshi is required to enter as he doesn’t have any caps of his own. Once you get through this segment (from here on out i may be misremembering details but it was something like this.)there is a power star. Collecting it spawns you back in the now flooded outsides of the castle courtyard as Waluigi. Luckily for you it just so turns out Waluigi has 2 abilities in addition to his longer long jump, that being his swimming. What you need to do now is swim to the peach painting in the castle courtyard. In there you will fight Petey Piranha where the Key for Waluigis door will spawn after his defeat. From there on out the white door, becomes an R door, Waluigi caps start spawning, and Purple rabbits (such as the one from the manual we all saw like it seriously was believable ngl) start appearing around the castle. Even though the unlock process was really complicated (sometimes even with extra steps such has collecting a certain amount of coins in the wario level as wario prior to shooting the wall.) there was so much evidence he was hidden in the game we all believed it anyway.

I'll just say one thing: If you look in the game files, Peach has unused animations like "Walk, Run and Jump"

I deadass think the purple bunny in the manual is a bad pic of marios pink bunny. If you look at the grass, the color doesn't look like any grass in the game.

props to the people/person for making the video accessible in so many languages, usually that's something you see only on those really high quality documentary videos that use 90% stock videos so it's cool that it's becoming more common

It should’ve been a door for Yoshi, and going back through the same door as your character would just end up with you being the same character

Interestingly enough, there actually exists an unused palette for a cyan-colored rabbit in the game (though it was probably an early rabbit design for Yoshi or something lul)

It’s actually not a hoax, if you run around the courtyard fountain 64 times and then do a backflip off of the right side of the mezzanine in the foyer as luigi then switch to wario and do 10 consecutive ground pounds on the bridge waluigi decends from the mural like peach and kisses his brother’s nose for rescuing him (real)

Well it'd make no sense for it to be Walugi since he isnt canon, or a real character. He's a made up filler character by a guy from a different studio. Walugi doesn't exist in the manga or mario lore. He only exists in the spin off sports games. If he was Canon, then plum the cute golfer girl from mario golf 64 would be Canon and since she's purple it could've been her door ? But ya see how that doesn't make sense.. If anything best plausible character it could be would be that nabbit character , literal purple bunny.

Waluigi this, Waluigi that. You know who genuinely has unused animations to suggest that they were a playable character? Peach. It's much more likely she was scrapped as a playable character due to the fact that she has, running, jumping, and idle animations that go completely unused.

People should recognize that Waluigi isn't treated as a main character and was just added to have more characters in the sports themed Mario games... He won't be a main character ever.

That looks like a Mario bunny just made darker due to either a misprint or because the printer couldn’t handle the ink color. I do wonder what would have happened if Waluigi was indeed added to the game, but everything is always up to our imagination.
