I believe Its us... Their fans who are the Automatic Sun. The Sun gives off Light, Warmth, and Life to everything. In return, The Warning returns that Light, Warmth, and Life. We are a marriage of the needing, and anticipation we get from each other. A very strong co-dependence on each other. When we are apart, the world's darkness, sadness, and strife dominates our lives. But for a short moment(a couple of hours), we are one heart, one soul, and one united in love, passion, and affection. In other words... Light, Warmth, and Life... It's Automatic when we are joined together... Automatic Sun!! VIVA THE WARNING!!

Another great analysis, Nena! Here's an additional explanation of the inspiration and meaning of the song given by the girls in a recent interview generally regarding the entire "Keep Me Fed" album. I'm not sure, but Pau might've given the answer to the specific question: Q: Could you explain the inspiration for your new single, “Automatic Sun?” How does it compare to other songs on your upcoming album, Keep Me Fed? A: The inspiration for “Automatic Sun” came to us very spontaneously. We’ll admit that our creative juices were very slow the day we wrote this song, it wasn’t until we were brainstorming with random words and phrases that we stumbled upon Automatic Sun, and it sounded hella cool. We didn’t know what it meant, but we knew we had to do something with it. From there, we thought about how there are people who just light up rooms like that, they’re little “automatic suns,” and we wrote an entire song on how the chemistry with a person you perceive as an automatic sun is intoxicating and beautiful.

Pau had a slightly different take on the meaning of the song. Unfortunately, I can’t remember which interview it was in, possibly the 2 hr recent interview in Spanish or the recent Playboy Mexico interview. She said it was being attracted to someone who has a personality like Dany, i.e. someone who lights up any room they walk into. How it takes a certain type of person to be able to handle a relationship with that type of person.

Hi, was thinking, if you replaced the Personal relationship with TW's current "relationship" with Touring, Performing and Playing LIVE, almost every day at that, everything you've said works as well. In my opinion even more. Loneliness at Midnight, after perfoming when all is quiet... The feeling in like HYCAD, where maybe a bit run down afterward, then traveling and starting the day over and then the feeling of the upcoming performance coming, pulling you back, then Playing Live (Automatic Sun), which gives them the feeling of Phsycosimatic Love, etc... Round and round, start over again, like a sun rising each and every day, a new start but kind of the Same ol thing. Like Touring and Playing shows, can get to ya, then ya miss them, the silence and then replaying it in your head afterwards feels like nails down your back, not necessarily a bad thing but good like goosebumps of excitement, maybe even wanting to get away, the Freedom to get away, but the Love, drive and desire just keeps Pulling you back in...? May not be what was actually their idea but with HYCAD apparently about touring and what they're all Living, dealing with in life right now?.... Sure fits! Either way, Music is always up to personal perspective, so to each their own. What an Amazing song and sure to be Album to come! As always, Rock On TW Army,⚡✌️🤟⚠️⚡

Once again, another great analysis! There was a lot to unpack with this song. Even with the bands explanation for this song, there is still room for interpretation. It does seem to be about an intense relationship missing either something or someone, specifically how they made you feel. Theres’s definitely an underlying sensuality based on some of the lyrics so it’s possible it could be personal. The band did mention in a recent interview that they have grown and changed since writing Error album and that these songs were indeed based on personal feelings and experiences. How much of it was influenced by the additional writers they worked with may never be known but the relationships in this song and in More for example seem to have a more intense and intimate tone. With this or any great band, it could be anything which is what makes it fun to analyze.

So remembering that Pau usually originates songs on piano, then they craft the songs. Dany does have some original songs, so I don't know if this is one. But, if it is Pau, is Dany just her voice? There is so much here. I LOVE the bass and kick drum breakdown, Dany's restrained vocals with just the bass and kick, KNOWING the build is coming...yeah, like their newly crafted Dust to Dust, with the extended outro leading to Dull Knives, this one screams for more! 😂 BTW some compare Ale to Geddy. But, not me. As bassists I think they are opposite ends of the spectrum. But, love them both! Playing the right notes, when that is just one note as in Automatic Sun, is a LOT harder than most think.

About mirrors... they do not reflect reality, but an image of it (representation vs. reality). Moreover, we do not see ourselves as others see us in a mirror. We see a reverse image of ourselves (physics -> optics). It also reminds me of French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan's Mirror Stage. which happens when a child sees oneself as a separate entity from one's mother for the first time. in a mirror. On a separate note (pun intended), the recurring image of being trapped but unwilling or incapable of doing something about it is pervasive in many The Warning songs. On a subconscious level, it could indicate unresolved issues of necessary, yet unresolved, emancipation from the nest. One of several ways to interpret literature (my field) is through psychoanalysis by viewing imagination as akin to dreams, hence applying the same technique an analyst (in my case Jungian) would in therapy, i.e. what is left unsaid since (by definition) the subconscious mind does not express itself consciously.

the lyrics are incredibly deep and double meaning, for girls who speak native spanish it is incredible. There is something going on with the lyrics, uncomfortable to approach for some. "The way you hurt me is never enough, if you want it all then just take it cause you got me" Now the sisters are very sweet and innocent in practice, but this line tells me their thoughts may not be so pure, there are definitely shades of grey here. It certainly is the strongest of the new songs. They are growing and exploring their possibilities with evermore impressive musical and song writing talents. @jimschoeff41853 ай бұрын
Isn't "psychosomatic" sometimes used to mean imaginary? She might be admitting that she knows the love is not real, or imaginary, but she wants it anyway? This song, like many of their other songs, is open to multiple interpretations. That, in my opinion, is one of their greatest strengths in songwriting, it can mean different things to different people. Thank you for yet another excellent breakdown of a great song.
@ThisUsernameIsAlreadyInUse3 ай бұрын
Do you have an example where it is used imaginary? Not to put you on the spot, but "psychosomatic" Symptoms normally are real and physical, caused by the psyche afaik. That makes the line so cool for me, because it means the love in this case has real physical symptoms.
@psychologyofrock3 ай бұрын
Hi Jim! Great comment! It's actually a very common misconception that psychosomatic symptoms are imaginary because there may not be a clear physical cause for the symptoms - but they are indeed real :) I see your point, though - "psychosomatic love" could potentially be used figuratively to describe an infatuation or obsession that's not based on a real relationship. I completely agree that The Warning writes songs that can mean different things to different people, and sometimes we can even give it a personal meaning that speaks to us on another level!

The sun radiates warmth, gives life, lights up the darkness. The sun also burns if you don't protect yourself from how *much* light, heat and warmth it radiates just by its own nature. And it'll kill you if you get too close to it. It's such a big presence that it has a gravitational pull that makes it hard to *resist* getting too close to it. Extrapolate that to a person, or even an experience, and... There's my set of metaphoric internal references and ties within the lyrics :) P.S. There's also the fact that it'll kill you to get *too far away* from the sun, too. Orbital mechanics, applied to human relationships... And I wholeheartedly concur: this is my current favorite from them. Current... that'll quite likely change soon, whenever I hear the next ridiculously catchy and brilliant earworm they produce.

@@psychologyofrock S!CK is a ridiculously well-crafted and executed punk anthem. Maybe I'm way overthinking this, but something that occurred to me while listening to your analysis is that it could also be that it's not one person, but many people. If we consider their catalog, specifically songs like Narcisista and Martirio, it could be that it's also about touring/the industry as a whole. They did the whole De-Tour thing during the lockdowns to reach out to their fans, and they give us a lot of background into their lives, on and off the road. We constantly hear from bands that perform live about the energy from the crowd, and that would fit the general theme of the song, even with the quote from Dany that you provided, and a quote from Pau in the comments below. Regarding an extended version, with a Dany solo, one thing I've noticed about The Warning in general is that solos aren't there unless they serve the song in some way. They've "broken" the formulaic songwriting trope, I guess. I love Dany's guitar work, no doubt, but I also love that she "reigns it in", I guess? It says a lot, to me, about why they do what they do.

“The way you hurt me is never enough” can also be read as a reference to BDSM, specifically impact play. In this context, she quite literally loves the pain she asks for, but it makes her crave more and more of it-which obviously could end up in serious injury if her partner is irresponsible. Since the sisters are conservative Christians this is probably not an intended reading, but one or more of them might necessarily be hiding this part of themselves.
@nunninkav2 күн бұрын
or it's from a book. Yeah this is what I hear, "just take it 'cause you got me" that would be a CNC relationship. The sisters are very sweet an innocent though, they don't seem like this would be a thing to do, but definitely as an artist you could explore the topic. How do you write a twisted love song? Things that are already linked to physical or mental health (exercise, meditation, etc), but even in these cases, it would still be possible to overdo it 😊

The beauty of their lyrics are open to individual interpretation based on our personal experiences. This song could be taken as metaphor to mean any addiction, like the song "More." Applied to the deep feelings love can cause, it reminds me of the songs "Love Hurts" by Nazareth, a very poignant song; and "Take a Look at Me Now" by Phil Collins, one that hits me personally. In additon to the lyrics, the video itself shows the effects of attraction gravity has not only on physical objects, keeping planets or moons in an orbit, but on light itself. Even light is bent around gravity wells like stars, galaxies, and black holes. Notice how the video ends by bending the drone shot of the audience around the black center, like images from NASA of microlensing, known as an "Einstein Ring" around a black hole. Once an object is trapped in orbit around the singularity of a black hole at the event horizon nothing can escape, not even light. And an object has travel at the speed of light to just to stay there or else it gets pulled into the black hole or the "singularity." So, the song conveys that love is like this, being trapped, unable to escape the attraction of the singularity, the black hole, and the threat of being crushed by the attraction. I would have left actual pics but YT doesn't allow images to be posted. But, here are some URLs: hubblesite.org/contents/media/images/2005/32/1788-Image.html scitechdaily.com/hubble-telescope-reveals-an-einstein-ring/ www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=ZWkI8eGO&id=7C2E18A8D75352DC3AE4C35C3CC4F5AE19E2778F&thid=OIP.ZWkI8eGOWfapVLmHpxik1AHaFW&mediaurl=www.universetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/lensshoe_hubble_900.jpg&exph=342&expw=474&q=micro+lensing+images&ck=35D33FDF402A48A8327A748769D69BA2&idpp=rc&idpview=singleimage&form=rc2idp&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0

Yes! I mention that at the end of the video. I think, as listeners, we naturally hear songs through the lens of our personal experiences, which make them even more meaningful to us. Sometimes even a misheard lyric can be incredibly meaningful to us! :) Great point!

@@psychologyofrock AZLyrics Keep Me Fed lyrics. Could be a mistake but the way they have them up instantly when a song is dropped and the name is potentially fitting with the theme of the album I think they jumped the gun and put the song title up.

Thank your for the the analysis! Always great to hear your views. Unfortunately all of the reasons you give for liking this song are the same reasons I don't like it. This is my least favorite song. The guitar tone isn't heavy, it's muddy. You can be heavy in E std. Also not a fan of Dany's vocals/effects in this. And the lyrics feel cobbled together and disjointed. Automatic Sun as a title/lyric just feels weird, even though I've head the explanation. Charismatic Sun feels like a better title, or if you want to think of that person as being a multifaceted light in your life, Prismatic Sun. I know a lot of people like this song, but it's not for me.

Hey Jeff! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. A few people in the comments have felt that the effects have taken away from Dany's natural vocal talent or made the guitar tone less enjoyable. I think they are just experimenting with their sound and trying new things. Love the words "prismatic sun" together :)

Pau has stated to some effect that she is mostly incapable of writing a traditional love song. If you dig through their catalog there’s a common theme about “love” type songs and that is unrequited love. Hear me out, are we all assuming the person who is the Automatic Sun is even aware of that level they have been placed at? Is this another song where the psychosomatic love is happing unbeknownst to the other party. All the symptoms would likely manifest the same, regardless if it’s a crush or a full blown love affair with another person I would think? The human mind is a mysterious place and people are able to manufacture their own realities and this could be happening here as well. Just a thought…

I can see this because she could be talking an infatuation with sensual fantasies than create other physical feelings more enjoyable than heart racing... remember they are all adults and are tackling more mature subjects metaphorically.

It’s not an opinion I share, but there is a minority of reactors who disapprove of the direction TW is taking lately, on the basis that they have started to exploit their sexuality to boost their popularity. Line about “nails down my back” seemed to be a focal point for some. From my perspective, dealing in some way or another with the physical side of relationships is almost inevitable as they continue to grow musically and personally. The way that physicality is treated could be raunchy and exploitative, or subtle and insightful (where I expect the Warning are headed). Addressing sexuality is not the same thing as exploiting sex. A couple of further observations. Their decade-long development from children to adults has been intensively documented online and I think some fans may be nostalgic for the schoolchildren who did the famous “Enter Sandman” cover. They craft deep, thought-provoking lyrics and I expect they will address adult issues now that they are adults. Staying with the issue of sex and sexuality, I think we could also be seeing a double standard for female versus male rock musicians. If I think back to the rock hero’s from the golden age of rock & roll, many of their lyrics were explicitly about sex…strictly from a male point of view. If there’s any doubt, look up the lyrics from rock classics like Led Zeppelin “Whole Lotta Love” or AC/DC “Thunderstruck” to name a few off the top of my head.

Great post! Yes, some seem to have a problem with them becoming adults. They seem to project feelings of parenthood. You often can see comments like "they have no tattoos", "they don't swear" and "are well brought up". So I guess this is a process normally found between father and daughter, when the daughter moves out, gets a boy- or girlfriend and lives her own life. It's hard for the "dad" but there is no other way. Imo, "Nalis down my back" is as sexual as "chills down my spine", zero to none.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts as well as some of the opinions that other reactors have expressed. I have not heard the criticisms from others about the claim of exploiting their sexuality to boost their popularity. I'm very surprised to hear this, and few thoughts come to mind. Firstly, they are no longer children, and if they choose to address this topic artistically, I don't see why that would raise many eyebrows as it is a part of the human experience and their music isn't marketed towards children. Like you said, they may shift lyrically now that they are adults because their own experiences are shifting. Also, I don't think it is fair to assume that any part of their work or image is crafted to gain views. Their authenticity got them this far, I don't see them changing that. Great point about the double standard. I'm surprised, however, that the "nails down my back" line was the cause of any controversy - while it is open to interpretation, the expression itself is much more commonly associated with simply meaning something is annoying or aggravating.

Overall great comments! The band has mentioned this album represents a new era for their music and is based on experiences and feelings they have had in the time since they wrote the Error album, so it makes sense that they would eventually transition into more adult-orientated material like relationships and sexuality. They will not likely exploit it to boost their popularity but will address it artistically, as they are excellent songwriters. If you were to post this stance on any of the fan pages, you would get roasted or kicked out because it does seem most of the fanbase still sees them as the cute kids from the cover video. I also wholeheartedly agree about the double standard with female and male rockers.

I feel we shouldn't put limitations on them as artists...their music is how they express themselves :)

@@psychologyofrock I agree wholeheartedly that we shouldn’t be trying to limit them. As they mature and their music evolves, I guess it’s not surprising that a part of the fan base would be nostalgic, which raises an interesting question: as fans, are we loyal to the artists or to their historical catalog

Nice interpretation! Dany's vocal styling in this song is very sultry and provides an interesting contrast to the heaviness of the music. The Warning will be releasing a video soon that contains the lyrics and hopefully that will clarify "psychosomatic love vs psychosomatic heart" which many, including myself believe that is being sung. If that turns out to be the case, does it alter at all your take on that part of the lyrics? 🤘🏽
@psychologyofrock3 ай бұрын
Well, heart used in that way would also symbolize love, so i think it would have the same meaning. Oddly, to me it sounds like a different word completely. I can’t hear an “l” sound for love or a “t” for the end of heart - I think the effect on her voice makes it hard to decipher, but I like “love” would be a stronger lyric 😊 We shall see!
