To be fair, the movie is based on a book and from what I've heard, the book ending is also a letdown. That being said, if I was Shyamalan's daughter and was adapting a novel for my first movie, you'd bet your behind it would have a banger ending.

Yeah, I saw it tonight. The beginning wasn’t necessarily strong for me, but it was intriguing. Especially Dakota Fanning’s character. But a lot of the intriguing aspects of her character, including the character’s attitude, kind of get lost in the rest of the movie. At least, it did for me. It wasn’t bad or anything. It's just. I remember thinking I wanted to see how this character handles what happens next, and it didn’t really feel like the same character throughout. If that makes any sense. I’m gonna see it again with my friend though, to see if maybe I missed something. I say it’s worth a watch 🙂

@@Inspectornills The rock monster depiction, I think may have been a reference to the apocryphal book of Jasher, or the Jubilees (?), I cannot recall which one specifically at the time of making this post, but it did mention God assigning Jasher a staff to touch the heels of the Giants prior to the time of the Great Flood. Upon doing so the Giants turned to stone, albeit some could move around perhaps with limited capacity, while others were immobilised. If you follow this rabbit hole, you'll assuredly ultimately get into fringe topics like mudfossils for example. Mudfossil University, being the top go-to channel for this theory.

Man didn't need to be taught how to sin worse and worse. We are perfectly capable of sinning on our own without demonic influence. Jeremiah 17:9-10 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Romans 1:28-32 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate (adokimos: failing to pass the test, unfit, worthless, counterfeit, unapproved) mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, *inventors of evil things,* disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. --All one needs to do to see this today is turn on any Liberal social media feed. Immorality is praised as being "love, morally just, tolerance, inclusion" with those who practice and promote "progressive" Liberalism (atheistic Marxist ideologies) being praised, called "stunning and brave". Keep in mind that the part about being worthy of death is not saying we should kill anyone who practices such things, but these are sins that God will judge them for and throw them into the lake of fire which is called the second death. Of course, in the Old Testament people would have been killed under the Mosaic Laws if they committed such things. Romans 3:10-12 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Isaiah 64:6 *But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;* and we all do fade as a leaf; *and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.* Romans 3:19-23 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, *and all the world may become guilty before God.* 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 *For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;*

The book has a lot of grand cosmic-horror concepts and ideas that are rather unsettling but don't lend itself well to being shown in a live-action film. I'm not surprised hearing that the second half comes across as goofy. The book has a fairly bone-chilling finale, but seeing it in a movie? Idk. I'm curious to see the finished product.

I felt it needed an extra 20 minutes of Dialogue between the characters to build a better relationship with the audience and less showing of the creatures in the middle of the movie to bring more tension. Also the film kind of creates a sense of each character was brought their for a reason but never pays off, it would've been nice to have some type of spiritual meaning to the group at the end of the film to really pay it off m, kind of like how Signs did. Overall I would give this a 6 out of 10 rating.

So I went last night to see the movie after reading the book over the last month and I can honestly say just go read the book. It was so much better, the ending wasn't rushed like it was in the movie and the suspense is way more rich. The movie just took a huge dump on the book

I felt the exact same way and I even spoke to my gf about it. She gave it a 10/10, I gave it an 8/10 simply because the ending felt so empty… it wasn’t a strong ending, the antagonist just “flew away” after the main character gave here a sentimental speech, and then that was it? Very dry ending. Everything else was good I guess.

This was a very middle of the road movie, when I saw the trailer I was instantly hooked, the idea of these 4 characters being trapped in this confined room by these unknown creatures for reasons unknown intrigued the hell out of me, but unfortunately I felt that this movie didn’t quite stick the landing The biggest strengths of the movie were definitely in that first half, the movie doesn’t take that long to get these characters into this room at all and once you’re there you’re constantly unsettled by not only the mystery of what’s watching them but also the uncertainty of if some of these characters that the main woman is with are dangerous or not, it reminded me a lot of 10 Cloverfield Lane where you’re constantly wondering if John Goodman’s character is crazy or not, and the movie’s suspenseful sequences are very good too, there were many parts in which I was biting my nails fearful of what was gonna happen next, and like I said the first half the movie was actually really good Where this movie lost me was that second half, at a point it quite literally looked like the movie was ending, I literally thought we just saw the climax and we were just going through the ending epilogue, I was like “Wait what? It’s over already?” But the movie kept going and the story got very muddy and honestly kinda ridiculous, because the whole mythology it introduces in execution felt kinda goofy, in fact I feel like the very first thing they reveal about who the Watchers are and why they’re doing what they’re doing was all they needed, I think it made enough sense and would’ve been an appropriate place to stop, but they added more fat to it and made an explanation that felt like it definitely needed some of the producers to come in and say “We gotta trim this up because this feels like too much” This kinda felt like 1 of those movies that you hear was saved in post production because they got rid of the original overly ambitious direction and made it more tightly paced and straightforward, then years later you watch the director’s cut and you’re like “Oh man, I definitely see why they changed directions with the theatrical cut because this just doesn’t work” I also thought that other than the old woman none of the other characters stood out at all, the main woman gets *a little bit* of a backstory I guess but it felt very hastily thrown together because it didn’t amount to anything interesting about her at all, and the other 2 characters just felt like placeholders with no identity whatsoever, and when the movie is built around 4 characters in a confined space when 2 out of those 4 characters aren’t interesting at all that’s gonna be a big problem for your movie So overall this movie was just very meh, I won’t lie that for a large chunk of it I was enjoying it but I can’t say the same for the rest of it, most of the characters were forgettable, the second half went totally off the rails and although I wanted to like it this was a story that just felt too big for its britches. 5/10
