I’ll be doing a double feature on Tuesday with this one and a 20th Anniversary showing of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead. Hopefully Ishana Night Shyamalan captures some of the magic her father had in the late 90’s and early 00’s at some point in her career.

This one’s directed by M. Night’s daughter, Ishana. M. Night’s next film, Trap, releases in August. Thus, 2024 is the summer of the Shyamalans.

Most directorial debuts aren’t exactly home runs. Even Scorsese and Nolan fumbled. I feel sorry for her, with a name attached to such a big director who has become synonymous with disappointments. I might wait til it streams in 2 weeks lol.

I just got out of the theater: In context I was very tired seeing this so I found myself nodding off, but that’s due to my busy life not the quality of the film. I really liked it and appreciated it. I appreciated the genre shift near the end. I don’t think it’s great, but it’s a good debut from Ishana. There’s a lot of good intrigue in it. I do think it’s an interesting, but the end didn’t come together fully for me. Left me with mixed feelings. Still, i think it’s at least interesting :)

I will probably check this one out soon too as I really want to see it to check out his daughters first film, I may listen to the audiobook first though to see what changes and stays the same as the adaptation process often times leads to some major changes to make the story work for the screen

I just saw it. Honestly, I like what we got, but I feel like we should’ve gotten more. Specifically with the lore of the creatures, it’s cool learning about it and the twists that happen, but I feel like we should’ve gotten more that. Overall I give it like a B- and a 7/10

I felt that this movie’s characters were so unlikeable! And it’s hard to be sympathetic towards their lives. I must admit that the first half of the book was dull as dishwater and the same could be said about the first half of the movie. It took me 2 weeks to get through the first half of the book and similarly I almost fell asleep several times in the movie

I read the book when it came out and remember that it received quite a bit of praise. It's good for the most part but the end is really dumb so I imagine that this carried over into the film.

They did a great job on some aspects but changed several things from the book including the ending, which really made it laughable. I’m definitely a huge fan of the book but I wouldn’t watch the movie again. I would give it 6/10. The book is a 9/10.

I just saw it and it's a 8 out of 10 for me. I've been watching the same type of Horror movies for decades now and I really appreciated that this movie defied the same old expectations and actually went further with the lore and plot, despite how crazy it may seem. Because it is similar to M. Night's movies, I would probably rank it higher than anything he's done in recent years (Old, The Visit, Glass, Knock at the Cabin, even Split).

Tough situation you can tell Sean doesn’t really like the film I understand all the unfair expectations because of the name but it’s obvious the film wasn’t great and because he interviewed the director which is amazing btw and so proud of how far Sean has come and he’s doing big and great things saw him on the news the other day as well so happy for Sean ! But it can make saying the movie is great hard

I only gave it a C+ which isn't a positive score. There's things which were good about the film. There's things which are interesting about the film. But it doesn't come together in the writing. But that's what I say in the review. I don't think I softened what I said because of the director.

Just saw the movie and I really like it Not sure why it gets all this hate but these are the reviewers that like Thor Ragnarok that was just insanely stupid so I guess it's to be Expected

She could have if shed wanted. But I don't think she has any interest in doing so. Her dad produced the film. She's worked on multiple of his projects. Shes' not shying away from her name.

two generations of shyamalan's delivering the same product: Bad acting, hacky dialogue, pseudo intellectual assbagery while visually being impressive. I cant decide if dakota fanning is a atrocious actor, or if the character is just such a emotionless,bratty,selfish, sociopathic asshole thats its impossible to like her. The twist violates all the rules of the script and just uses the laziest,most formulaic plot device ever "this one is different than ALL the others", than resolves it with another overused movie trope "dont kill me because maybe you arent the only one, go find them" ugh the movie is just a mess and it really shows the absolute worst of m night shyamalan's instincts have rubbed off on his daughter
