Yeeeeesssss! One of my happy place songs. Other Waterboys songs I love are The Pan Within, This is The Sea, Red Army Blues. Red Army Blues is a dark masterpiece. If Fisherman's Blues is spattering your mates with ale as you jig around the pub, Red Army Blues is sitting alone in an armchair with a whisky in your hand (vodka more accurately considering the subject matter), knowing you should've gone to bed hours ago but you can't seem to move.

@@intothemusic908 yes Greg.... I suppose you can ...with this track I can't play another track to satisfy wanting more....would have to be a repeat of this.. if you're listening to Floyd for example your thirst for more can be quenched with the next track ..... Can't do that with this ... Hope your holiday is going well.... will you delve deeper into porcupine Tree ?..... Making assumption you will be returning ? ✌️🇬🇧

I love The Waterboys, Mike Scott and World Party. Greg, I don’t know if I would call the earlier albums more pop. The first word that comes to mind for me is “big.” They even have a song on their album Pagan Place that is named “The Big Music.” Another way I think about their early sound is like a cross between Van Morrison and early ‘80s rock bands you would hear on college radio stations.

One of my Brother's favourite bands. They hit big in the UK when they released the song Whole Of The Moon single in 1985. I saw them live supporting Simple Minds at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1986 and they did a vicious, but amazing cover of Maggie's Farm (Bob Dylan). They used it as a rant against Margaret Thatcher, the UK PM of the time. Check out the title track of This Is The Sea

Just read your reply to 'when ye go away', thanks for that. This is the best song on the album in my opinion, an absolute classic. Lads from the UK with West of Ireland parents like myself.

In the mid 1980s, this band was playing side by side with U2 on tour. Mike Scott didn’t want the pressure of being a huge success rather wanted to perform / create music his own way. He is a legend over the big pond. By the way- there isn’t any ‘steel guitar’ used in this album. You are hearing a bouzouki

How does that little Ooh ooh go again 🤔another one of Scotland’s unsung talent very underrated artists writers, singers playing a little bit of everything but mainly guitar Mike Scott check him out and while your at it go Paul Buchanan, the reason I mention this as they are both humble and inspiring human souls , and great to listen to when being interviewed.

When this was released it SEEMED like a big change from their first three albums and got very mixed reviews from both the industry and fans but over time you come to see that the changes - in terms of the album as a whole - were incremental rather than total and, subsequently this has come to be not only my favourite WBs album, but one of my favourite albums of all time. Great choice!

Meh. I know I should like this band, but they never did anything for me. I don't like his voice, nothing ever connected with me. Weird, because I love bands like The Levellers and Saw Doctors. Also, I prefer Karl Wallinger's music when he left to form World Party. A band I feel was underrated. It's all about opinions and tastes...
