Luckily they are use to me and they let me get pretty close. Thank you.

This is amazing!!, I’ll soon have a couple of Blue winged teal, and I wanted to ask for advice on breeding tips to successfully rise them. New subscriber!

The main thing is to make them feel at home as they would be in the wild. Some tall grasses, shrubbery, bushes and things that give them cover to hide and nest in. They normally nest in taller grass and or ground boxes. Clean water is #1 and a sight barrier around the bottom of your enclosure which helps make them feel safer because they can’t see what’s going on outside of the enclosure and it also helps keep predators from seeing in and wanting to get them. It sounds weird but they just need to feel safe and comfortable in their enclosure, just like you want to be in your home. Is all this completely necessary in order to get them to breed and lay, not really but you will get way better results by making their home as close to their natural home in the wild.

You have my dream!!! I am so jealous. It is so nice to see someone taking proper care of their birds... lots of space, plants, able to fly, and a large body of clean water too! I hate to see when people overcrowd their ducks and don't give them enough space or water. do you have any problems with the black swans being too aggressive to the ducks? And, how come the water is that strange blue colour... did you add anything to it? Thanks.

Hello, at first we didn’t have any issues with the swans but with each clutch the cob got a little more aggressive and by the third clutch we believe he killed a white eye hen who got to close to the swans nest. We also noticed poor fertility in several of the ducks eggs and we believe it was because the swans were chasing the ducks off the water when the ducks were trying to mate. We really loved our swans but we couldn’t keep this up so we decided too let the swans go. It’s definitely not the same without them but we believe it was in the best interest for the ducks and hopefully we will have better fertility and hatching this coming year. Thank you.

Also, we do add a pond dye around late spring and during the summer, as it helps keep algae growth down.

@@bluegrasswaterfowlfarm Oh, that is a shame about the swans. I wanted a pair too, but I think I will just stick to the ducks when I start my collection. Thanks for the advise.

Are there any species you would recommend to live on my lake that are likely to spend the night in the water? Pinioned of course. I have an issue with owls getting ducks that sleep on the shore line at night.

I’m not sure which ones to recommend, but I know several people that can help. I’m waiting for some feedback and I’ll let you know. Thank you.

Most are saying about any of the bigger waterfowl. Ruddy Shelducks, Canadian geese, swans and just the bigger ducks in general would be a good option. The owls seem to go for the smaller ducks and not always but usually won’t bother the bigger ones. I hope this helps some.

@@bluegrasswaterfowlfarm yes I have tendency to like the diving ducks. I have some hoodies now in a aviary to afraid to release them. That makes sense though I will have to look into the larger birds. Maybe settle with a pair of mute swans. Thanks so much for your input. I look forward to future videos best of luck with your birds!

Where do you buy them? 🤔

We have a few different people we buy from, then we raise and sell the young ones.

This pen will be a mudpile by spring. One thing you could do is fence off a third of the pen at a time, dig up and reseed grass, and then another third and another third... every 4 months maybe. The only successful long-term waterfowl aviaries i've seen were all paved in cement with drainage, and often topped with a couple inches of gravel to give it that natural appearance. You just hose it jdown every now and then.

Been mowing grass inside here for 2 years now. Grass grows fine. No geese allowed LoL.
