I mean what she said isn't the same as swearing on tv in America, it's really hard to actually swear in Japanese. Most of it is to do with how you say it rather than what you say. That's also why she was able to repeat what she said without it being an issue.

This is a good example of how profane words on their own don't have the same gravitas in Japanese as compared to English. How you conjugate your verbs is more relevant to politeness. For example, children use all manner of profanities in the classroom amongst themselves and never get punished like they would in North America but if they speak in a disrespectful tone to their teachers, they would be harshly punished.

Yeah, in Japanese "profanity" comes down more to "register." There are expectations on how polite or casual your speech should be in a certain situation, and adopting an inappropriate register is seen as rude or crass. A newscaster, like any sort of "official" communication, would be expected to use a formal level of language, so dropping a very casual word in there is sort of the same as swearing accidentally.
At this point she could be a streamer and will have millions of people viewing it live. She's got that streamer vibe.

Honestly, as an native English speaker, くそ is much better translated as 'damn' or 'crappy' or something like that. That better reflects the severity of the swear. It's mild at best. The weather girl says it accidentally and gets a mild slap on the wrist and they all have a laugh about it. This is in a culture that takes manners and etiquette extremely seriously. Most Japanese people have no idea just how strong a swear 'f***' is, because they have no equivalent in their language. If a weather person dropped an F bomb on TV in the UK, they would be fired instantly. Over here you literally can't use that word on TV before 9pm. It's not a laughing matter, there would be thousands of angry people emailing the news channel and demanding the person be fired. That's how strong an F-bomb is.

@@amzxar5049 "クソ" means something similar to the word "shit". A more direct translation of "クソ暑い" would be something like "shittily hot". But that obviously doesn't sound natural to say in English, so "fucking hot" is probably the closest equivalent. It's also worth noting that "クソ" is not considered a swear word like "shit" or "fuck". You can say "クソ" on TV or radio and they won't try to bleep it out or censor it. Children can even say it and it's not a big deal to them.
