"The Hills" by The Weeknd has to have some of my favorite meaningful, deep lyrics of all time. "The Hills" is about an affair that The Weeknd (created by Abel Tesfaye) is having with another man's wife, but he gets really deep throughout it and take's this song's meaning to a level that you don't often see in pop music.
Despite the lyrics of "The Hills" being so dark, it's funny how refreshing they can be when placed in the context of meaningless pop songs. In "The Hills," The Weeknd has something to say, and I think you're going to enjoy these lyrics.

Self-aware and self-destructive, harmonizing catchy melodies with words of drugs, sex, and evil. I believe he has such a battle with himself because he was raised Christian and I know what it’s like being raised Christian plus smoking weed and drinking always makes me think about am I doing the right thing. I feel like Abel always wears the cross to signify he still believes but he also wants to be successful.

I think it's a song about addiction similar to drugs in a toxic love/hate relationship most likely driven by lust. He's downplaying and justifying his infatuation/addiction similar to a junkie pretending he is in control of his addiction. When it comes down to it he's always there on her terms as she makes him feel more alive than other bitches/drugs. The guy at the end is more of a judgmental figure saying 'I knew you'd be back' as his conscience eating at him saying he's weak due to his confliction and addiction.

i have a random theory: after watching his new music video "the weeknds darkest secret" idk if it's true or not but if it is I think there are some hints in his other music videos or songs to show that he is living two lives = singing about all these things that he' done, but actually it's all been a lie (having sex, doing drugs etc.) . idk if the whole song is true but if it is then yeah that's my theory.= that his new song makes sense because we can connect the dots from his other music videos and songs. but idk what does everyone else think I really don't know. I'm stuck between whether it's true or not also a different theory: because you said the weekend and Abel are like two different people, what if he meant (in his song"the weeknds darkest secret") the 'the weeknd isn't a virgin, but Abel IS. 😂 like maybe he's done everything he sings about, but still feels like an innocent, virgin because maybe deep inside it hasn't meant anything or not enough. idk

If you had studied the entire lyrics, it should not have escaped you that the last lines of the song are in his native Amharic language. They reveal that his ‘I’m a mf star boy’ attitude has all been a front. His real persona is actually deeply in love with someone (is it the Hills person?) and is actually feeling deep feelings. This completely changes the song and gives it much more depth. It shows how lost he feels in this fake world and that his fucked up self is in fact not his real self. Or is it?? We will never really know, and perhaps neither does he.

Then he realizes it was a bad idea so he tries to kill that old part of him then he discovers that he is hooked on to it and can't escape" 2. Can't Feel My Face - The Hills - Tell Your Friends "He starts doing and selling drugs and makes a lot of money off of it, then he ends up doing reckless things (car flipped and exploded) and realizes that he has to get off before anything worse happens to someone or himself. 3. The Hills - Can't Feel My Face - Tell Your Friends "He has been doing drugs for a while enough for him to end up performing badly when not on drugs, hence people throwing stuff at him at the bar until "The Devil" helps him, then he realizes he has to put an end to his old life once and for all.

Double meaning with everything in Hollywood one for the general population and the other is for people that are involved in the know and for those who Who understand and read into the occult. This song would be the last in the three-part series with the first being can’t feel my face which is this song about selling his soul to the devil, The second song tell your friends the basic meaning is he’s killed old self has and he is trying to bury it he regrets his decision and tries to kill Satan or the dark force within this world. And then the third he’s living a crazy lifestyle gets into a car accident and realizes that he cannot kill the dark force once you sell your soul and are initiated within the occult circles of Hollywood there is no escaping. Because at the end of the video the dark figure is seen at the end and he is really surprised because in the second video he had shot him

I think this song could be about the girl from till dawn but he’s just trying to act like he’s only about her on his time, when realistically he’s in denial and wants more which is why in his native language he says I love you, you’re mine in the part where most ppl don’t understand. It makes sense imo but idk I could be wrong
