Tank levels in Mario games were always odd to me. Bowser forming an army of tanks and warships just always felt off. Super Mario Bros 3 comes to mind, but when tank levels were reintroduced in a 3d environment in Super Mario 3D World, I always was curious about how they actually worked. Today we're breaking down everything about these strange levels to uncover just that!

The warp pipes, I could understand. Mario and the others aren’t the only ones in the world who can use them, after all. Bowser and his minions need to get around too. The powerups, not so much. Maybe some of them, in theory, can use them too? I mean, this is the same game that has Cat Goombas and Meowser, so maybe the powerups are for Bowser’s army but we don’t see them use them because we get to them sooner. Not to mention Boomerang Bros and the Hammer Bro variety that shoots fire.

it's funny, because these are elementary game design methods. Nintendo really should just do an event showing some of these levels in tandum with Builder Garage. They really shouldn't be afraid to show off that they do everything else the game industry already does with their assets.

@@Jacob39822Gaming They don't really use them directly. I agree it would be very cool if the enemies could steal some power-ups to the player, or vice-versa. Would look like a Kirby game, but would be sick.

3:40 isn't this the lack of background effect? As far as I know, when there is a blank part of the screen, with no objects, no background, nothing covering it, the frames doesn't change on that spot, so it only multiplies (I don't know if I explained it correctly). So the lightning keeps multiplexing on the blank, and this effect happens.

No, because then the background would be the same colours as the ground and wall, not red. That is what I thought at first as well, though, so you aren't alone on thinking that. I know it isn’t though since you don't see the frames not refreshing behind any of the enemies or tanks, which would make it look like the tanks or enemies were being smeared. Since there is no smearing effect, it isn't frames not refreshing. I'll link a video that will teach you better about this than I could.

The Tanks, Battleships and Airships have always been my favorite stages. The idea that for some Mario has full freedom to just walk around the tanks, but chooses to climb over them makes me laugh.

Or maybe the huge army just prevents anyone from trying to oppose in the first place. I don't recall in which Mario RPG we see this, but the Mushroom Kingdom castle has guards. They just hide and cower when Bowser comes =)

@@ManoredRed And in the original Super Mario, in the game manual, it's said that a vast majority of the Toads in the Mushroom Kingdom were turned into bricks or coins for some reason. Probably wrong though

Bowser could’ve won if he used a M3 Stuart because not only will any tank be faster (except the Maus) it’ll shoot fast projectiles and have a MG. Hell even the first Tanks ever would be a pain to fight

I wish 3D World tank levels had the tanks look like... Well, actual tanks. The levels were still fun but I still felt the tanks were dull in design, Mario Bros 3 tank levels had some more accurate tanks, why not now? :(

Swanky, i decided to make some mechanic idea's for Zardy's Phase 3 in Friday Night Funkin'. (oh shit zardy's bringing out the whole ga-) Mechanic Idea 1: Cablecrow grabs the HP bar, bringing it down a large chunk every once in a while. (Similar to Tricky's Skeletal Minions.) Mechanic Idea 2: A rattling sound will play. A hidden Z button will appear under the HP bar. If the player doesn't press it in 3 seconds, The Rattler will then grab the BF, drag them off screen, and, death. Mechanic Idea 3: The Brute will fly above BF's head. Only the bottom part of The Brute's body is visible. When the Brute is about to attack, the player will have to press the Z Button 10 times before it strikes. Mechanic Idea 4: Pumpkin Jack will walk in the background of the cornfield. When it is about to strike, yellow exclamation marks will appear above your head. you need to press Y and Z to dodge it. If you don't, you instantly die. Mechanic Idea 5: A Pumpkin Crawler leaves out a small vine on the ground. If the player presses Q,W,E,R,Z,X,C or V, Pumpkin Jack will be summoned. Mechanic Idea 6: Cornstalkers appear infront of the player's arrows. The player needs to press the C button to bring them down. Mechanic Idea 7: The Drought will appear infront of the screen, and rewind the song 5 seconds back. Mechanic Idea 8: A seed will rise from the background, spawning a Brute.

Can you please make the Zardy’s Maze enemy models downloadable on Steam for SFM (Source Filmmaker) Since you made that big update to Zardy’s FNF mod, I’m not demanding it but I would like to use the original models in SFM without the annoyance of finding and or getting the models from the ZM (Zardy’s Maze) game files Edit: If we get enough likes, maybe Swanky can see it. Can't you tell it is a monkey's design of warfare? Bowser is clearly just a goofy guy. Think back to super Mario world when he rides a modified teacup. He is a nutcracker - a child, and these tanks are just toys. Like we put out scare crows to protect our crops - Bowser place out tanks to look intimidating. But admittedly these tanks are scary close to Bowser's vision of a real army, and one they we will get to see a real army march into mushroom kingdom. He just has to put his ass down with his team to learn engineering instead of just dreaming up ideas that would look cool but lack functionality. And that my friends, are why we haven't seen tanks above ground. They are failed experiments.
