In the deep, dark ocean, many sea creatures make their own light for hunting, mating and self-defense. Bioluminescence expert Edith Widder was one of the first to film this glimmering world. At TED2011, she brings some of her glowing friends onstage, and shows more astonishing footage of glowing undersea life.
Talk by Edith Widder.

That was genuinely, how should I say?... AWESOME. Maybe one day I'll take the plunge :3 Those oceanic animals look so dazzling, it's crazy to fathom that they were on earth way longer than us, which means their futuristic characteristics to us are actually ancient.

David Attenborough narrated BBC's Bioluminescence documentary and they implemented new camera tech. It's utterly breathtaking to watch.

Nature is phenomenal. Where the sun does not reach, God gave these creatures their own power to produce their own light. How magnificent is that?

an observation...it is the space between the ight that is really signaling where its being attacked...notice light always moved away from the attack point the attack point is never lit up..the squid was trying to see the lightless point but it was moving to fast it was confusing
