@@qtentertainment8172 I just rewatched xiaolin showdown not too long ago. It's definitely got that early 00s vibe where a bunch of the characters are over-urbanized charactures. I vaguely remember one episode where they had a basketball showdown, in the middle of a run down city, with the only black kid on the show lmao. Omi is also an Asian kid, who is literally drawn as a yellow person, and sounds like uncle Rodger lol. Other than the weird race vibes, the actual content of the show is great.

I got a dear family friend into Code Lyoko back when it was first on TV. He's no longer with us, but Code Lyoko will always bring me back to our Friday night pizza dinners.

I like shows that blend 2D and 3D… And no, that’s not Family Guy.

It was genius for the show to blend the two forms of animation together, with 3D being the virtual reality world and 2D being the reality. No way would a show do this today. I have to admit that I never liked the 2D art style with the massive foreheads and tiny eyes but it was animated very well.

More shows should do this today. Don't let fans write the show, but let fans direct the show

Do you remember when XANA traps Ulrich and Yumi in the sauna and turns the heat up to like 140 and they sit back to back bc Ulrich says he won't look at her underdressed? Or when Odd gets trapped in the sewer grate outside Ailetas dad's old house and literally has to tread water with his lips between the grate or die? Dude this show was HARDCORE ASF during the formative years.

It was fairly risqué for the age demographic, but admittedly, as someone who watched this about in tandem with the show As Told By Ginger (or reruns thereof, tbh, I don't recall when that originally came out) and other coming of age shows, it really just felt vaguely normalizing the idea of hey, they're humans, and humans have bodies, and there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that. Obviously that may not have been the intention, based on the scenes that were in the original French that were inevitably cut out and some of the "ogling" aspects that are also implied, but it was mildly cathartic as someone growing up in a super conservative family, who was shamed for "developing" early, where even just mentioning the word "bra" was inappropriate. It was cool seeing scenes with characters in their bras and underwear and it not be treated as an inherently bad thing most of the time, which was the main thing I noticed at like age 10 (even if I would later notice upon rewatching as an adult that there was mild ogling involved). It's kind of interesting taking the time to look back at those formative years, and consider in what ways those scenes were distinctly formative for the people who experienced it. But also, yeah no, some of the other scenes were definitely hardcore too lolol. The episode where everyone nearly died of asphyxiation because they couldn't stop laughing stuck with me awful hard - and then I learned that there is actual medical precedent for that happening and it was even more concerning 😅Definitely not sure if Y-7 was the best age demographic, in retrospect.

I don't remember most of the risque stuff, but does anyone remember the one episode where yumi has some WEIRD looking feet. Im pretty sure they added a sound effect to it so that It was more of a "what was that?"

The code lyoko novels do give a different story about Aelita's Mother: she got her memories erased by Phoenix who wants to take over the super computer

Yeah, Billy and Jordan did a good job, but if I had to give some constructive criticism, it would be all the “large forehead” jokes they kept making. That’s an artistic decision, no different than the characters in The Simpsons having yellow skin.

@@PassTheSnails Yeah, it was unique but that doesn't mean it wasn't ugly. The characters faces all looked the same, with tiny eyes and massive foreheads. The characters looked a lot better in 3D.

I was just playing it last night! It has real potential to be the conclusion to the story that we all want. And it just feels awesome turning your computer into the super computer lol.

Yeah, everybody thinks it was a computer virus but it's not. They literally tell you in one of Hopper's diaries that it was a military subterfuge artificial intelligence that went rogue. It's not a computer virus like everybody thinks it is. It's an AI that was designed for military subterfuge that decided it didn't want to do what humans commanded it to do anymore and instead decided it wanted humans to do what it says.

Idk about that. Xanas schemes went from "lol lets blow up a nuclear reactor" to "lets take over a gym teacher"

You could say Xana started going towards possessing people after realizing how vulnerable the team is in the real world and it does save power for his next big attempt.

For real this show was extremely dramatic for a kid

Biggest detractor of code lyoko I feel is its terribly low animation budget. Not that I think the show’s style is bad, no. I love the art style. But MoonScoop reused shots from episode 1 like crazy for the whole series. Super bummed to see the same elevator transition or virtualization animation with zero effort (or budget) to shake things up, all the way into the final season.

I really want a serie based in their books, which story is way better and not the same all the time

The hair was the episode where Aelita’s code got bugged because Jeremy effed up when materializing it and they used it to bring her back after she got reformatted and the candy on the keyboard was the episode where Yumi fell into the Digital Sea and they ended up having to use that program to bring Yumi back instead of materializing Aelita.

Bruh I God I made a lil fan fiction of my own about Code Ly. And I made a character that wz a self insert Going to lyoko too, my goodness i called him Oddric. Idk why but i really felt I had to stick wit it to relate to the show. (Even tho I'm making a fan fic of it. ) I made him almost have Williams character & i wz soo surprised when a fam like him actually came in! (I made the fan fic in my notebook I lost it but i remember what i tried to put lil. God this wz the shyt

Benefits of them using IRL locations as bases for their show locations, the level of continuity they trusted kids with was great.

Man this one is the only shows where boarding school was the primary location for the protagonist. Idk why but most shows don’t tackle that. It wasn’t anything major but I always love that! Also it was kinda weird because even tho it was a boarding school I assume you didn’t necessarily have to live there(Yumi didn’t. I don’t remember who else didn’t but Ik it was one other person)

@@asherjohnson6678 Yeah, it happens in some middle-schools and high-schools, it's not really the same thing as boarding schools, there are no words in english to differenciate the 2 systems, but basically boarding schools are independent, when this situation in Code Lyoko, it's a normal school that provides a system of internate as a plus. There are interns that sleeps there during the week, in some schools they go back at their parents' for the week-end, in the show they stay until their vacations (French vacations are 2 weeks around october, 2 around dec/jan, 2 around feb, 2 around in april and about 2 months, Ju-Aug), there is also semi-extern, that stays at noon to eat at the cafeteria, and externs (it's rarer) that eats at their home at noon, Yumi is a semi-extern, the other are interns, they are usually selected because the parents live too far mostly because of their jobs, if the parents aren't the wealthiest they can have issues providing a good education (parenting or schooling), so their kids can be accepted too. Ulrich is a failing student, for 1+1/2 year in a row he had difficulties, I think they don't really like that for interns, so I suspect he is still accepted because his parents are rich guys that we shouldn't mess with, maybe they even generously help the school financially I wouldn't be surprised

Right!! They dropped him in to sync him with the super computer and he comes out of the tube exclaiming how terrible it was but it woulda have been soooooo cool to see him and Aileta go on a date in Lyoko. I wonder what his outfit and power would have been..

​@@kieranwrightstone2199 Yeah sure, I've got multiple things of multiple genres, hold on :) If it's about kids animated series you want I could suggest : - *Wakfu* : a fantasy series about Yugo, a young kid who discovers he has abilities to teleport (Portal style) and decides with a group of friends of different species (Like Lord of the Rings but quite unique to this world) to go on a quest to find his origins, a high budget show inspired by japanese animation it's action packed and quite fun, it gets more mature with the seasons, the first half of season 1 is a bit boring though, but the rest is great, you can find it on Netflix. it's 2 season of 26 episodes each, plus 3 small specials, plus 3 big specials made before season 3 that is made of 13 episodes, season 4 is on the way - *Martin Mystery* : Technically not so French but it the same creative team behind Totally Spies, basically a paranormal investigator teenager who works for a secret agency to hunt monsters/aliens/fantastical creatures, it's not a deep show with great character development, it's even a bit dumb but it's a lot of fun and it's the equivalent of horror movies but for kids, it fueled my nightmares growing up ^^ - *Foot 2 Rue* : (Translated by Street Football) It's a story about young kids of different social classes that gather to play soccer in the streets, they find out that everywhere in the world, kids play soccer so they decide to illegally organise a World Championship in their small city of South of France behind the police's back. This show is not really about soccer, but about the idea that everyone in the world can gather for a common goal despite the differences, and this show talks about subjects like violence, drugs, family issues, child labour, poverty etc... without too preachy, the art style is unique (like Code Lyoko) but this show is very powerful and emotional, it's 3 season of 26 episodes each (plus a 4 released recently) - *Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or (The Mysterious Cities of Gold)* : This show is a French-Japanese production from 1982 when animes started to be popular in France, this show is the reason why Avatar:TLA is only #2 in my heart, this one is #1 ^^ The story takes place during the XVIth century during the era of conquistadores, it's about Esteban a young spanish orphan who after the death of his adoptive father decides to go to the New Continent, he possesses a mysterious medallion which might come from the City of Gold so he decides to go to search for it to find his birth father, with 2 friends Zia and Tao, they cross the path of an ancient civilisation that has more secrets than it might seem. This show is a mix of adventure, historical truth, fantastic and sci-fi, it's like Indiana Jones before Indiana Jones was made (well... Scrooge McDuck I guess...), or it's like Assassin's Creed for example, it's such a gorgeous show :) This show benefited of the best quality, big budget and latest "technology" for TV animation at the time, it got old but holds up very well, the creators are French, but the writers and studio team was Japanese, I suggest the French version, the most close to what the creators had in mind, the japanese version being very very different. It is still extremely popular today, kids still watch it 40 years later, it even had a Blu-Ray remaster that I highly recommend, though no subtitles avalaible :/ I guess it would be pretty hard to find some of these shows with subtitles, and if they had american dub it's might have been censored (or not that well-done) but you could probably find it not so legally ^^ I could also suggest you French movies if you want, but it's mostly old movies, because French modern cinema is pretty shitty nowadays

@@LegendStormcrow Yes totally, but there is as much good stuff as there is bad stuff, you have to found the right ones ^^ I consumed a lot more of american shows growing up, especially Disney and Superhero ones, Europe is more and more influenced by US culture, mostly because of Hollywood, it represents such a huge part of cinema and TV in the entire world, so I guess the small number of French shows I watched made them more important to me, it'll never be as popular as american ones :) I made a list of French 'kids' shows to @Kieran Wrightstone if you're interested
