Thanks for a terrific tour of this museum. You are so interesting to listen to. I was disappointed that there wasn't a mini pickup truck. I shared this video to my f/b news feed for my grandsons and messaged the video to my son's. I am enjoying your trip to Nashville with Heather videos. 😀😀😀

One reason some of these cars are so small, at least in Japan, is lack of parking. At one time, I believe in Japan, you could not buy a car unless you could prove you had space on your property to park it.

As a child I adored fifties and sixties microcars. To a little car loving boy they seemed to bridge merry-go-round cars and “real” cars, and somehow seemed more attainable for me. The BMW 700 Sport was one of my favorites. At age 55 I finally got one and had it for a couple of years.

Correct, but the Reliant Regal was a regular gag in the Mister Bean shows, and it showed up in almost every episode for a periode. (Bean pushed it out of his way, and it ended with the Reliant was knocked over on its side)

My late father had a Reliant here in the UK, in the early 80’s. He got it because you only needed a motorcycle license, not a car driver license (which he never had). It had a green fibreglass body, with plenty of grey repair patches!

Such a fun tour Alex! I used to own a 1972 Honda 300cc that I drove back and forth to college. My brother used to put cinder blocks in the little trunk so that I wouldn’t skid around in the rain. I sold it when I graduated for exactly what I paid for it, $400. Then I saw the same car on the show Pawn Stars and they put a price of $30,000 on it. I thought maybe they would have one at this museum, but haven’t seen one in the video so far. Thanks for sharing this.

Oh man, I volunteer at this museum and can't believe I missed you guys. There are almost 600 cars in the collection and most reside in the basement, which you can tour on the weekends. The gyro in the gyro X keeps the car stable on 2 wheels, but it's powered by a mini Cooper s 80hp engine.

Asking why such small cars is almost asking why Philadelphia (and most other East Coast Cities have so many Row Homes. You were Taxed on How many Outside walls your home had. When in a Row Home, unless you were on either end of the row your taxes were half of that as a 'Normal' Home. (If you were on either end. you still had 3 outside walls so your takes were still lower than a Normal home, but half again more that you more nestled neighbors!!!)

The "Turbine" air cooler on the side of the VW is an evaporative cooler. For use only in the very dry desert southwest, evaporative coolers , aka swamp coolers, draw airflow thru water soaked pads to cool the air. The car cooler was filled with about a gallon or so of water. There was a pad soaked in that water that the moving air would blow over before entering the car. You would periodicaly pull a handle on the cooler that would rotate a freshly wetted pad into position. As late as the 1970s, gas stations and trailer rental lots would rent these things out for summer trips, as most cars in those days did not have a/c. They are something rare these days.
