He jumped in at around 800m. He didn't come in from the neighborhood. About 2 minutes before the start, I saw him in spikes and a uniform in the grass by where the course loops back on itself. I didn't know it was Hebert at the time, just weird that this guy was standing way away from the start in spikes. I didn't see him jump in, but based on where he was standing and the video, if you look at the course map, he jumped in on the section where the course does a close U before going back around the lake.

@SteveMagness
@SteveMagness Жыл бұрын
@@RunnerBoi Yep. I think he started out there for two reasons. First it was far enough away from the start where there were only a handful of spectators in that spot. Any closer and people were lining the course. Second, if you look at the map, the 2mile course intersects with the 5k course, so there was an opening without flags or gates to mark off the course. So an easy part to dip into the race. He was just hanging out in that area for 5-10min before the race started doing drills.

Perhaps as a cross country runner, this is the 'weirdest'. However for other running events there have been plenty of other stranger incidents Including multiple people who entered marathons but cheated (I think one woman took a public bus, until she was only a couple miles from the finishing line, and then entered to 'win'. Also the strangest case of a runner is James Hogue. His life and scandals are covered in the Podcast: Swindled Titled: The Ivy Leaguer (Esther Reed / James Hogue). He is a former Kansas State Champion Two Miler. He went on at age 26 to commit identity theft and enroll at Palo Alto High School as a full time student/athlete competing in various high school races.

To these high school runners the state championship is a huge event for them. For a college guy to jump in to get attention is an act of pure ego and selfishness. His only motivation that I can see is to get attention for himself. Some people are calling this a joke or a prank but as far as I can see this guy is a total jerk. I actually would like to see him punished for this. Getting a little tired of people like this crying out for attention.

Yeah, I was there! I’m fairly certain that he snuck in around the first mile mark. The course winded around for the last 2 miles but was fairly straight for the first mile. Because of that most people cheered the runners on over the last 2 miles so they could catch them 3-4 times but there were less people present over the first mile, making it fairly easy to slip in without any coaches noticing.

Years ago, I went to a park nearby to run and there was a meet going on there. It was near the end of the day, and all that was left was a boys' JV race. I let them start, waited about 10 minutes, then began running the course. I was just kind-of jogging and not doing anything hard--I think I was about 30 years old at the time. As luck would have it, some of those JV runners were really slow and I caught up to them, even being 10 minutes behind. I was wearing a walkman and no uniform and training flats, so people knew I was not in high school. Several people shouted at me, even though I was staying to the outside and not interfering with the race. But I felt really bad, so I dropped out and left the course at like the 2 mile mark of a 3 mile (non-repeating) course. I figured there was no way in hell I would catch up to the stragglers, but I still did. I think some of those at the back were walking/running alternately. I don't think I hurt anyone because there were still like 100+ runners in front of me, and it was a JV race. But I would never want to have that happen to me again. I should have just run somewhere else once I saw the meet going on. I can't fathom showing up and trying to win, looking like Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite, trying to get back to 1983.

I have a similar story. I was in Arizona at a park to run a compact dirt trail for a daily run. This high school meet was going on but it was very unofficial. It may have been some kind of dual meet time trial because the course was not marked off or closed. I waited until all the runners had started and gave them a 30 second head start before I tried to catch them. I had just bruised my ribs from a car accident so I couldn't take deep breaths, but it was so fun chasing them down haha.

I was in class watching the live results come in on a non UIL website. was weird because right as the final results were posted, the top 10 were excluded at first (so it said #11 won the race) probably entirely due to this guy suddenly being there that wasn't. While kevin wasn't affected, I'm good friends with the #2 and #3 runners, and recall jack holding up a 3 on the official UIL post because he thought he was actually beat out by this dude. made for a great story and public bashing on insta, but wow do i feel bad for my fellas.

Doxxing people, playing armchair psychologist, and intimating that the bandit deserves physical violence is far more harmful than bandits running races. Bandits don’t present a harm unless they attempt to claim a prize/notoriety. Merely asking people to not attack this bandit with a quick sentence in the final seconds of this video is bullshit. The fact that the Karen who produced this garbage even snuck that legalese into the video means that are fully aware of what their comments earlier in the video are/were doing. If something happens to this bandit and the perp watched this video, I hope the Karen who produced it is Alex Jones’d into poverty or prison.

guy who made the video is a 'voiceover artist' with a laptop who paid for milesplit premium. of course he's going to wildly speculate about why an idiot did something that is against rules and decency that most everyone knows. there's not much analysis of any further worth in his video.

You have no idea what you're talking about. There are races held all over the country every week. No reason to interfere in a high school race. If he wanted to run again he could've ran again. Easy to laugh about it when you're not competing in that race, I guess.

@@CB-rv2lj completely ignoring the mental aspect of running. Running is largely mental. It could have been a disaster for the eventual champion if Sanchez was a stronger runner. Imagine getting passed, trying to keep up with an Olympic athlete and burning out. That kid could have lost a State Championship because of an adult who should know better.
