Correct me if Im wrong, but in Legends, the Republic star destroyer, Nebula star destroyer and the MC90 were built to survive engagement with ISD Mark II's, were they not?

Yes, but ISD-2's were built for engaging large capital ships and take a tremendous beating (Though Tector Star Destroyers fit this role perfectly). This is confirmed by the sheer number of turbo-lasers and armor that an ISD-2 has.

I do not have confirmation, but it would make sense. It would be silly if a new frontline capital ship was not designed to combat the current most common / deadly enemy ship of the same class. But you know how complicated Star Wars Legend / Canon shit can get, and sense is not always something to count on :)

The Mon Remoda type MC80b's were designed with super heavy shielding and heavy enough guns to be able to fight ISD-IIs snd win, as well as tank some shots from SSDs at range, the ISD-II still outgunned them by a bit but between heavier shields, having more heavy ion batteries, and fighter compliment, they were more likely to survive the fight, personally I think most mods should give them a bit better shielding with a slightly higher regen rate to reflect this, they were also a more interim design that we never see as much as others. The MC90 was designed to straight up fight an ISD-II or Tector-II head on and win.

depends often authors forgot them and you end u with things like the republic making new clases ships all the time (rsd and nebula mor obviously) isds 2 are technically rebellion era with the one being late clone wars. technially the NR in vong era in legends has a shitload of strong destroyers but in those books you rarely see them deployed. mostly they were made fo cleaning up imperial holdouts with improved ships, the tr team has made an excellent job into integrating the shitload of new republic ships from legends into a coherent tech progression

@@kR-qj7rw I cant remember where, it may have been fannon or from an EAW mod, that put the rsd as an earlier ship type that was basically built from scrapped ISD components to create a new ship, with the nebula destroyer coming a little later. I mean all of them could work, Mon Cal builds the mon cal ships with the mon remoda type being an interm pre-thrawn design that prototyped many of the newer systems that went into the MC90, former imperial worlds and worlds with imperial yards take damaged ISDs that cant be too easily made ready for fleet service and create the republic type, and then once they get some breathing room they stsrt pumping out nebula destroyers and the fleet carrier counterparts, letting member worlds build what they know makes sense.

God, the Peltast always looked so magnificent in my eyes. It's like a Star Destroyer with a long range rail-gun. And the shape of the ship assist with this description quite well too. God, if only this thing could be canon...

At least we _kinda_ got the Onager back when it was brought into Armada. Doesn't look much like the Peltast but it serves the same role.

@@TheTrytix That and the Conqueror, both being different implementations of the concept of sticking a superlaser on a regular-sized Star Destroyer (Conqueror had a miniaturized Concave Dish Compound Beam Superlaser mounted to the front of the superstructure) but equally superior in concept to the half-assed Xyston class.

I love the Gladiator. I have exactly 1 problem with it, even though it’s probably my favorite. The problem is that there’s no flippin ventral hangar door. It would’ve been perfect to connect the side and front hangar together. Either way still amazing pocket SD, 10/10 would steal from the Empire again.

On the _Interdictor:_ It prevents ships from coming and going. Also on the _Interdictor:_ It pulls ships in from hyperspace. That second one sounds an awful lot like 'helps ships that are coming stop near the _Interdictor."_

The EC-F is a battlecruiser like the Praetor or Allegiance. You forgot the Mon Mothma SD, because it one of the weirdest and interreting SDs out there.

I love the Peltast-class. Always imagine that there should be a dedicated anti-capital ship version of Star Destroyer that build around one or few spinally-mounted extra-large weapon.

if you go by old legends where empire at war was canon (despite being REALLY fucky with the timeline) the aggressor class star destroyer was what you are imagining, dedicated anti capitla ship from the empire, the game makes it obvious the consortium steals the blueprints but its an imperial ship. but most of the eaw lore was kinda ignored by the old eu (zahns fleet able to capture the eclipse and kick the rebels and empire ass in multiple occasions in't mentioned anywhere but with some refference to the consortium)

If you look the aclamator and the gladiator you come to think the gladiator was an expensive waste of a ship made by the corrupt cronies of the empire to embezzling credits bc it does the same as the aclamator but underperformed in everything

Republic-class Star Destroyer: I mean, it 100% looks like a Mon Cal take on the Star Destroyer formula. I don't like the protruding wing sections, I feel like it would look better if it had a more MC80 Liberty look, but overall this is a good looking ship and a worthy successor to the Imperial class which it is effectively the New Republic's equivalent of. Peltast-class Star Destroyer: This is basically the Empire of the Hand's equivalent to an Onager-class, the difference being that while the Onager's main weapon is built into the center of the hull, the Peltast's is basically slapped onto the front of an otherwise smaller spaceframe. Anyway, I really like backline sniper ships like this, being also a fan of the Banking Clan's Munificent-class Star Frigate and the Galactic Empire's one-off Conqueror-class Star Destroyer. Gladiator: Yeah, definitely more of a carrier focus just based on the design, with that huge hangar opening at the front. Honestly, this shouldn't even be carrying anti-ship weapons, it should be kitted mostly for point defense. Ascendancy-class Star Destroyer: This has got to be my favorite star destroyer design in the entirety of Star Wars. My only issue with the design is the placement of the weapon batteries, those should be at an angle along the edges of the ship, not in rows along the sides. But other than that, the Ascendancy-class is the most optimal design for a Star Destroyer. Bridge built into the superstructure, wedge-shaped sloped hull with plenty of space for superfiring turret placement, a hangar setup capable of quickly launching and retrieving fighters, bombers and other small craft, this thing has it all. I know I'm probably gushing but I can't help it, I'm practically in love with this ship. Interdictor-class Star Destroyer: When an Imperial I and an Immobilizer-418 love each other very much... Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, this ship is honestly kinda silly. You don't want your interdictors to be on the front lines, so there's no reason to use one of these over the Immobilizer-418. Side note, the "Interdictor Star Destroyer" in canon _is_ the Immobilizer-418, for some reason Disney didn't want to use the actual class name for it, probably thought "iT pIzZa ShIp So It StAr DeStRoYeR" or something like that. Acclimator: My experience with this ship is that it dies quickly. As a result, I don't use them unless I'm forced to. Chaff-class Star Destroyer: Where the Ascendancy-class Star Destroyer is the best hull design for a Star Destroyer, the Chaff has some of the best turret placement of any Star Destroyer design. The line of dorsal-mounted superfiring turrets combined with the sets of turrets on its flanks gives it lots of frontal firepower without hindering its ability to fire broadside as well if needed. Side note, the turret placement does actually resemble one other star destroyer - the Allegiance-class. Also the Mandator-II and Bellator, but that's more getting into super star destroyer territory. EXF: This is an experimental ship. It's very much a Star Destroyer in design, but its primary focus is as a testbed for advanced technologies.

I'm kind of annoyed about the design of the Ascendancy SD. On one hand it looks great. On the other hand we'll never see it in any official SW projects because it's already been made by a fan.

Are all these ships actually Star Destroyers though??? Star Destroyer is a specific type of capital ship. Yet in countless videos I've seen people call just about every large, even remotely ISD type looking ship a "Star Destroyer". But there's just so far you can (or at least should) stretch that name.
