This is a documentary about the Chicago artist/musician Wesley Willis. If you aren't familiar with him, do yourself a favor and look him up. This documentary should serve as a taste of what to expect from the man who was the great Wesley Willis. His art, music and personality were so original, he never ceased to put a smile on the face of anyone who stepped into his world.
This documentary was shot over a few year period in the late 1990's and completed in 2001. Darren Leis and Matt Marshall toured around California and the Northwest with Wesley and some fellow musicians. This documentary short was made as a teaser to what would be a full length documentary. That larger project was shelved and unfortunately Wesley Willis died in 2003. There are many other projects out there that honor Wesley as this one does. If it interested you, I encourage you to seek out and enjoy more of the world of Welsey Willis.
Shot, Produced & Directed by Darren Leis and Matt Marshall (C) 2001 Six-Count Productions and Leiso Productions

I met Wes in Wrigleyville before his fame. He was drawing pictures of the buildings. His drawings were beautiful.

I loved him so much! I met him at a show once and had him talk to my roommate on the phone. He said “hello! Michelle?! This is Wesley Willis. Say rock. Say roll! Have a nice day.” She couldn’t believe she was on the phone with him.

It's really cool to hear Henry Rollins say that about Wesley. I met him (Wesley) back in like '98 and got to hang out and jam with him for like 3 days while he was in Ann Arbor. He was such a nice and gentle dude, that always stands out in my mind. I also received many headbutts from the man. Rauuuul Wesley, rauuuul!!! Till we meet again...

When he says his ma smokes crack, he's telling you the truth. When he says "cut that mullet", it's good advice. There are few artists who are capable of being this honest. Also true with comedians. He sings the truth and accomplishes both. The question is, can you tell it's the real thing when YOU see it?

An HONEST ANSWER right here,;I saw him in 2002 having never heard of him before. He played cut the mullet, and he played'suck a palominos d$ck" and we laughed out loud. After 15 to 20 songs and listening to more honest lyrics about who he liked and who he had beefs against, well our laughs turned to " hell yeah" and he communicated more feelings than any new pop acts for sure. His artistry, confidence, and appreciation were pure and honest. He didn't know how to fake. Rocked it like a car crash. Rocked all the way to Russia.bought his cd straight from him at the merch table southgate house Ky R.I.P.
