Did you even read the books? Biggest problem was Moraine, that become too emotional, too knowing it all. That's one of the biggest changes, same as Lan and others. And that's the biggest problem. Visuals are for those who are here because they really have no taste or time. Once again, this show is a clear parody and an ego trip from Rafe Judkins.

Absolutely. There are so many wonderful moments in the story that come from detailed descriptions of what weaves are doing. I hope they get nice and complicated with it, over time. If they establish the basics well, it'll be a lot cooler when the characters learn to do more complicated and powerful stuff as the story goes on. If the weaves were all just generic white mist, everything looks the same and you wind up displaying growth by just making the characters glow brighter and brighter like it's Dragonball.

Yes we are very lucky to have this much content out there and should appreciate the effort but also show when things go very very wrong, participation ribbons help no one and when one of the more successful fantasy books gets what was s1 its no different then throwing paint on a work of art in a museum and saying we should apreciate the vandals "effort". I just hope some of the other books i enjoy do not get this same "effort". Again this is to s1, s2 is yet to be seen fully.

The show was actually a failure based upon the numbers it brought in and its ratings, so while it might not go anywhere anytime soon, you certainly can't call it successful either. By any metric it hadn't met its expectations. Here's hoping season 2 is better.

Like sure they made more changes than a lot of us were hoping for, and a few of them are hard to defend at best, but the overall essence of the characters and worldbuilding is definitely there. And there's lots of stuff that's more or less directly lifted page to screen. Eye of the World is just a really hard book to adapt, especially without an unlimited budget and while making a show with a consistent theme from the beginning (ensemble cast vs Rand PoV, etc.). AND THEN they got slammed by COVID restrictions, losing a main cast member, multiple rewrites, etc. As a huge book nerd, it's actually pretty good factoring things in, and there's no reason to think Season 2 can't be significantly better with a bigger budget, less production problems and books that are more representative of the series as a whole.

I completely understood changes would have to be made, but the only thing in this awful show is character and location names. It doesn’t even have a semblance of the same story.

The problem is she was TOO much of a part of Season 1. The analogy I've heard is that it would be like making an adaptation of Fellowship of the Ring and giving significantly more role to Gandalf than to Frodo. Moiraine is basically the Wheel of Time's equivalent of Gandalf, at least for the first couple books.

I read the book thereafter and was surprised to see Rand the main POV and the conflicting emotions towards Morraine was much better explored, so the young adult group seemed less angsty.

I’m not a prejudice person, but the book-to-screen change of making Moiraine and Siuan gay felt unnecessary and pointless. There are plenty of likable supporting characters in the books that are implied to be queer, so there’s no need or reason to go this extra length. I think the producers did this for either good press or to cash in on Game of Thrones. Any comments?

It's not hate that gets a show canceled. It's alienating millions of people who read the series and dislike seeing what they love butchered. No one wants it to fail, but without enough of an audience they lose money and then it fails. If and when that happens, it will be because of the choices the showrunners made. At least we still have the books and audiobooks. I do hope Rosamund Pike does get to do all of the audiobooks.

@@ranazaeem27 its ten times better in nearly every aspect (still stray away as an adaptation tho), I can really recommend it to my friends now which I couldn’t after the end of S1. The first episode is kinda slow but has pretty solid nyn/liandrin/egwene characterization moments, episodes 3, 5, 6 and the finale were simply great and they are my favorite ones. Mat’s new actor feels right and is doing such great job. Josha is also doing a good job at playing Rand but I wished for stronger character moments and one of my biggest criticisms of the season is that it keeps downplaying Rand when he should be the main focus. I hated how non book viewers don’t seem to like his character and don’t understand how the whole thing weighs so much on him, and how his power is incomparable to anything we’ve seen before. The show tends to tell that to viewers rather than showing them what it truly means to be the dragon reborn. Perrin’s actor is another big criticism for me, his performance is definitely my least fav one, but I have my hopes high for when his character truly shines in S3. with that said, I really enjoyed the second season a lot more than the first and I did immediate rewatches to my fav episodes. I def think you should give it a chance. Hope u enjoy it and I would love to hear ur thoughts.

@@VickyVk1 It's certainly not necessary for every detail of a TV or movie adaptation to be the same as it's source material, and some changes are actually necessary to make certain aspects of said source material work on-screen. That being said, the entire reason direct adaptations of existing works are made in the first place is because people want to see those works translated to another medium as faithfully as possible. In this case, people wanted to see Robert Jordan's vision for the series translated to the screen - Not to see the series totally re-imagined or re-interpreted by a showrunner most of them have never heard of. The changes in this series don't just "add excitement and suspense", they fundamentally alter the plot, setting, and characters to the point where, at many times, it feels like they might as well be telling a completely different story. I think the show has some merit as it's own product, (though overall, I just found it to be extremely average) but it fundamentally fails to be an adaptation of Wheel of Time - Which is what most people wanted, and is what the show was advertised as.

Rand is going to be sidelined. This is the Rosamund Sedai show.

Lanfear, as a character, defined by the books, would get bored of Rand rather fast and leave till he gained some level of ambition... so i hope she is a traveling companion for about 1-2 episodes that annoys the hell out of Matt that Rand is getting the attention from a High Lady and she trys to guide Rand but fails because he lacks ambition so just leaves.

I think it's kinda dumb that they are meeting this early cause they aren't supposed to formally meet until well after the black tower is formed.

The VFX were fine - the scripts on the other hand are terrible. I came in completely blank on the first season and was already reading the book instead by episode 5.

That's the whole point of fantasy, to take us out of our own world into another more magical one. So the music should enhance that feeling, like classical music can. @@LooseTheremin As much as I have my gripes with the TV show, the world of the wheel of time is absolutely supposed to represent ours in a different age - with our age likely being the first or 7th going by the stories mentioned by thom in book one. And ofc the events of the wheel of time play out in the third age. In fact I think showing aspects of our modern world / the age of legends throughout has been one of the few points they did very well indeed. Whether or not classical music would be better or worse for such a show is another question entirely, one I might even agree with. But the justification that it's of our world (whereas classical music is... also of our world) and therefore a bad choice is poor at best :D

The visuals were quite good, messing with the story really screwed things up... quite a lot. It's hard to get past things like changing the Eye of the World (a pool of pure saidin meant to be used by the Dragon Reborn to even the odds for a time vs the Dark One) into one of the Dark One's seals that Rand accidentally breaks, and then giving his army shattering moment to a circle of women who burn themselves out and then somehow aren't dead. Or leaving out the Green Man. Or killing Loial. Turning Machan'shin into a whisperer of scary words instead of a singing ball of mad souls rushing to annihilate everything it notices. Or taking Nynaeve's power healing weave that is the culmination of her character arc and putting it into S1 when she has no training or development yet. Ug, I love Nynaeve's arc in the books it's the best. There's a lot that can still be corrected or reigned back in, seeing that they will have Rand duel Turak is a good sign, and Selene is obviously there. We'll have to see how it goes, I'd love it if they'd drop the "men, bad"/"women, good" stuff and get back to the true intent which is that both working together is what brings success. Apart and separated they are much weaker, with the problem being that no one trusts the male channelers not because they are innately evil but because the male power is literally poisoned. Jordan was great at showing how everyone believed and held to various forms of wrong information, and it ultimately takes the trust between the Emond's Fielders to overcome all of that and rejoin male and female channelers together where they always needed to be to come out victorious.

A "weave" is a combination of the 5 powers (Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Spirit). Air is the power that is tinged yellow. A healing weave would be Air, Water and Spirit (unless you are Nynaeve), which would be a combination of yellow, blue and white. Lightning, as seen in the trailer, is Air and Fire, so a combination of yellow and red, and that is EXACTLY what you see being channeled if you pause at 1:18

Sorry you had that experience. Most of mine thought it was watchable while I was the one ranting and raving at every inappropriate change from the books. Season one was objectively bad, though. They should not have put out a product like that. The showrunner has a clear agenda that disrespects Robert Jordan's entire philosophy. I have no hope for season 2. I'll watch it, and keep my complaints silent so others can enjoy it.

They didn't even introduce half the characters who were already supposed to be introduced in the first book and skipped a bunch of stuff and then included things from the second book to deliver a haphazard and underwhelming season 1. They're basically giving it the Witcher treatment and as someone who owns and has read all 14 books multiple times, I can't tell you how disappointing it is to see another beloved series get the same treatment.

Then there are additional scenes that might not be identical to the book, but seem to be drawn from material in books 2 and 3, such as Perrin learning more about the wolves, Rand struggling with his destiny and learning to channel, Mat having to deal with having held the dagger, Moiraine struggling with how she wants to guide Rand versus Rand being untrusting of her, Liandrin being suspicious, a scene resembling the darkfriend social... Are there differences from the books? Yes, no doubt. In this trailer we see some significant changes from the hunting the horn storyline, where Aviendha seems to have met Perrin, and it seems like the Shienarans getting attacked by Seanchan. So yes, there are differences from the books that are no small. At the same time, though, so many other scenes either draw directly from the book, or simply streamline or slightly tweak storylines while preserving the essential of plot and character.

​@@DeadsySedaihe makes a great point though, they did make the men pretty fuckin pathetic in the show. The books are far more balanced when it comes to this issue and in the end it's made very clear that the men and woman have to work in harmony and combine their strengths to have a chance at winning. The show is clearly going down a different road and already giving some of Rand's biggest moments to the female channelers.

It just looks like another cliche flaming sword to me, nothing special about it.

yes, her casting has been announced nearly 2 years ago, at the NYCC right before the release of S1. She's played by Ceara Covenny (sorry if I spelt it wrong)

Except that's not how it works. Egwene was shielded from the one power by the Damane so there was no fighting from Egwene and no fireballs from the Damane. More nonsense from the writers.

They dropped the part where Rand fell off the wall into the palace yard and meets Elayne. So how will he fall in love at first when he sees her beauty. Rewrited never work hence why people always say the books are better after seeing a movie adaptation. Even Disney woke up and did beauty of the beast just like the original n it was a hit.
