Wonderful observation! I wonder if the cabby and his wife (who were the first king and queen of Narnia) had an accent where those words also rhymed? Presumably not northern, but im no expert. But itd make sense that such a rhyme would come about in a prophecy if that was the case!

if you know the rules of magic within the world of fantasy then all magic is linked but works in ways that are not the same in Narnia her old magic was not able to work as most worlds have a source of power within them that grants a connection to those that can wield it and for most this connection is based within the side of making the world a better place for someone like Jadis that idea was not something she could do or from how she is understand thus she misused the magic for her own gain and in turn did not truly understand the deep magic behind the world

In history, bad rhymes like "throne" and "done" are frequently a sign those words used to rhyme but don't anymore due to the regular sound changes that occur in languages over time (shakespearean poetry has a lot of these) - I've always wondered if old Narnians pronounced "throne" and "done" the same and how this sound change came about

Good point! C.S. Lewis was a big fan of Shakespeare, Spenser, Donne, and other Renaissance poets so I wonder if he did that on purpose.
@serimus
@serimus 2 жыл бұрын
I have been figuring this out myself. I’ve been able to discover rules about English simply by thinking about it. Dome/shone/drone/throne/etc is pronounced as it is because it has a vowel within and an e at the end, so gone/done should be the same. These could be the most mispronounced words in history. We should all just start pronouncing it dōn and gōn again.

@@acebase555 but sometimes they did rhyme - like linguists have proven they did. Like George and charge rhymed in Shakespeare's day and again and rain did actually used to rhyme. @friend_trilobot
@friend_trilobot Жыл бұрын
@@acebase555 but yes, some that did rhyme in old days are reused later as slant rhymes. And some were near rhymes that were just a lot nearer to reach other. But I imagine Lewis would have had enough knowledge to know these would have rhymed in middle English, or at least been a much closer rhyme than in modern English, and used that as a way to suggest the age of the rhyme, but he could also have just meant it to be slant rhyme, but a reader can take it either way

I’ve read the chronicles of narnia dozens of times and each time I feel like I’m transported into the land of narnia and each time it seems like I discover a detail I hadn’t before. I always find it amusing to find that most people are unaware that there are actually 7 books that make up the chronicles of narnia. Whenever someone mentions it people automatically think about the lion, the witch and the wardrobe which is actually the 2nd book in the series. I personally am fascinated by the silver chair which is book 6 in the series. I like to imagine that the witch in the silver chair is Jadis in another form or body. The book doesn’t come out and say it but kind of eludes to it enough for speculation. Can you do a video about the possibility that the witch in the silver chair could be Jadis?

I don't really think food was that scarce and difficult to come by in Narnia, judging from how the Beavers had hams, strings of onions, potatoes, creamy milk, butter, a marmalade roll and unlimited fish in their home.

Excellent video about an incredibly interesting character! I don't recall if this was ever asked/answered, and didn't see it in a brief review of the comments, but is there a reason the Tree of Protection died or was it just always a temporary measure? Thank you for covering this wonderful lore!

Great question. It was never explained, though there's some reason to believe that the Narnian tree and its counterpart in England were somehow metaphysically connected (the tree in England would move even when there was no wind, etc.). There is a theory that when the tree in England blew over in a storm, the Narnian tree also died.

Can you help me to understand where Jadis and her dwarf were shapeshifted and out of sight of Susan and Lucy as named around the 4 min mark? I have read the books many times and cannot remember ever reading that part. Thank you.
