They were a real rock band. They had it all. Good musicians playing songs that reflected the times, with innovative solo's and a super star lead singer. Approximately 42 years after its debut and a new generation is discovering the greatness of "The Who".

Little bit of trivia, and a true story. This song was recorded long ago, in a time when saying any cuss words was not allowed, on radio, or magazines, or TV. When they recorded this song, the Engineer stopped at the point that the singer dropped the F-Bomb and said, "You cant do that, Im gonna erase that, and you can do it over, but say something else. They recorded about 20 more takes of this, and every time, he dropped the F-Bomb, until the studio just said F-it themselves and left it in. And yes Im an Old Fart! LOL!"

david p I assume you are referring to The End by The Doors. Yes that’s true however on the original LP’s. The F words were played at a very low volume and the music was played over his use of the f bomb. It was only in later releases it was restored.

Squeezebox is one of the silliest songs on perhaps one of the darkest albums in rock and roll history. Pete spilled out his soul on many of the songs on the Who By Numbers album and Squeezebox was a brief moment of levity. They say Keith walked out of the studio with tears in his eyes the first time he heard Pete's demos for Who By Numbers. BTW, I absolutely LOVE the Who By Numbers album. Roger sang his bleepin' arse off on it!

Jack McFeely yes. I feel that the opening song is underrated as well. It's very melodic and catchy. I love Had Enough, 905 which John used to perform in his old band. This album isn't as carefully inspected as Who's Next was and it's a shame.

THIS SONG WAS MY INTRODUCTION INTO ROCK MUSIC! It was 1978 and we were driving in a car with my now step-brother and he said lets turn on 933.3 wmmr and see whats playing I had no idea what 933.3 wmmr was. I was only 11 years old and my parents still listened to am radio. He turned on WMMR and this song was playing. I was enjoying it and when Roger Daltry said the F bomb I was hooked.

I saw a doco on them and they told the story where this song came from apparently Pete Townshend went off at a pub one night I'm not sure if they were playing a gig or not but he had the shits or something and went through the crowd up in people's faces asking them all "who are you" or "who the fuck are you" like over and over and that's where the idea for the lyrics were birthed.

I think they still hold the record for highest decibel level of a live rock show, louder than a 747 taking off. The Who concert disaster occurred on December 3, 1979, when British rock band the Who performed at Riverfront Coliseum (now known as Heritage Bank Center) in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, and a crush of concert-goers outside the coliseum's entry doors resulted in the deaths of 11 people. This was a major badass live band.

In the 1970s The Who was one of only a few rock groups that was called a " Super Group ". When Keith Moon OD'd in 78 that was really the end of their Super Group. However The Who did continue to do some very good stuff after. Kieth was the energy and engine behind the band performing his own unique style on drums. You won't hear his style from anyone else.
