Fun Fact: In the original novel titled "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, the magical shoes that Dorothy wore while she was in Oz were the color of silver, but in this movie the filmmakers changed the color of shoes to ruby red in order to take advantage of the film's Technicolor process used for the era.

The Witch of the West and Voldemort are very similar villains. Both want to be the most powerful beings in the world and they each sought very powerful objects namely The Ruby Slippers and the Elder Wand. However both have to kill Dorothy and Snape respectively because the slippers remain stuck on Dorothy’s feet and Voldemort has Snape killed thinking he was the current owner of the Elder Wand when he killed Dumbledore but it was actually Draco Malfoy who was the owner having disarmed Dumbledore before his death but then Harry himself became the master of the wand by defeating Draco at Malfoy Manor. In fact I would be willing to bet if the Witch heard of the Elder Wand she would also seek it as well.

[points at the hourglass, which isn't nearly empty yet] WWotW: "Bah! Something must be wrong with the spell. I'd better get back to the lab and perfect it. But I'll be back!" [storms out] Dorothy: [continues chipping away at the masonry and digging her escape tunnel, flipping the hourglass when it says she has about ten minutes left] WWotW: "I'm back, my pretty! Your hour should be past now. It's time for you to die!" Dorothy: "But the hourglass disagrees with you!" [points to the hourglass again] WWotW: "What in the world? There must be a temporal shift here! No matter. I'll divine the cause of this time warp, and _then_ I'll be back!" Dorothy: "I'm surprised that this is actually working! But I'd better finish digging out of here. She might actually catch on sooner or later!" So yeah, I could see that. The Wicked Witch of the West doesn't exactly seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed, right? ;-)

So, about the hourglass - the witch said "that's how much longer you've got to be alive." Did that mean Dorothy would drop dead when the sand runs out? Or that it would take the witch that long to organize her "troops" to surround her? Except Dorothy seems to be under the impression that if she gets out of that specific room before the sand runs out (hurry! The hourglass is almost empty!) she'll live (and she does.) Also why can't she just flip it over? Is it enchanted? Prob just movie logic.
@MaskedMan66
@MaskedMan66 5 ай бұрын
Recall the Wicked Witch's dialogue: "Those shoes will never some off as long as you're alive. But that's not what's worrying me: it's *how* to do it. These things must be done delicately or you hurt the spell." She had no qualms about killing Dorothy, but in order to preserve the magic in the shoes, something very specific had to be done. The house falling on the Wicked Witch of the East had been a total fluke, and her sister knew that wouldn't work a second time. The hourglass is just an ordinary timepiece; flipping it over would be useless, like turning a clock back. The hour would still pass and the WWW would still be working out a means to kill Dorothy.

I do believe that if the witch did kill Dorothy it wouldn't do any good since ruby slippers in my opinion would have created force field or protection spell like In Book and she wouldn't be in danger. And I do agree that she would have asked Dorothy to have her take the shoes off. But, she goes to more easy choice by removing them herself. So yes while the witch could asked Dorothy to remove the slippers the creators film went for a different way. And even if Dorothy turn back over the hourglass it wouldn't change anything also unlike the Dorothy from the book this one is to afraid to take risk even if she was smart enough to turn over hourglass and give her more time to stay alive. Like I said the creators of the film went a different way that most creators would think is not smart. But, that's just how the movie went in that direction. Also like I said if Dorothy wouldn't have been killed by witch before her Friends got there in my Opinion. Like I said the weapons would have been broken off my protection spell or force field that would have protect her from danger like in the book she has mark from the witch of the North that also protects her from danger as well. So yes even if Dorothy was killed by Witch in both the Original book and 1939 film she would have been protected by The Mark, the ruby slippers or any force field or protection spell that would or wouldn't have killed or harmed her in anyway. So to answer you questions. No. Dorothy wouldn't have been killed by Witch even if the ruby slippers were on her. But, yes if the ruby slippers weren't on Dorothy yes she would have been killed. But, like I said if she was protected by anything magical from being killed, harmed or danger she would still have lived. But, yes even without that I would agree that she would have been dead.

To be honest If that was me playing Dorothy at that time a would shit it to work with Margaret Hamilton playing she does actually look freeky and terrifying looking witch ano it's just acting but if that was me a would struggle to act out because off her performance
