It has an amazing library of games, so good in fact they moved most of it to the Switch😂 But for real I loved the Wii U

I've always thought the Wii U was a solid system. If anything (where hardware and non-game software are concerned) I feel more and more this is what the Switch should've been. The switching aspect of the Switch is really really good and the JoyCons being detachable is a step up from the GamePad, but man the Switch lacks so many system features the Wii U has. There's practically nothing on it other than "send friend requests and play games". If they simply ported over the Wii U's features and games and combined it with the good aspects of the Switch and its own games, it could've been a much more ideal system

The Wii U was an excellent console with terrible marketing. I still use my Wii U to this day simply because of all the amazing games on the system.

My favorite part of my Wii U is as my beloved Wii was dying (the disc drive failed) I was able to transfer its entire essence over to my Wii U using a SD card including all my saved Nintendo Shop games. It truly serves as a "Wii within a Wii [U]" to this day and it's super cool.

I would love if the next switch or handheld to be somewhat like the wii u. I loved the wii u pad but i was sad that some of its core features never made to switch. Though its cause of wii u gamepad and switch that made me really enjoy the handheld experiennce. Never like playing on vits, psp, ds, and such cause felt so small.

Can't believe it's already 10 years... But yea, I liked my Wii U. I know Nintendo should've known how to have sold it better. But it had some great exclusives, most of which were ported to Switch, but that shouldn't matter right now. Point is, it was a great system that sadly couldn't live to it's fullest potential.

I'm going to be honest with you I actually started to feel bad for it when the switch come out, I want to go back in time and give it a go.

I still use it , love the Wii U and the 3DS.

The Wii U is basically a Metroid Machine at this point, has almost every metroid game on it except for dread, samus returns, fed force, and weirdly no prime pinball. Prime pinball is like the only metroid game I don't have and wondering why it isn't on Wii U despite Prime Hunters being on it.

I think it was important that the Wii U released and performed poorly - we may not even have the Switch, otherwise Ya gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette, after all

Honestly the biggest thing about the switch that I don’t like is that it feels very, soulless. The Wii U still has that Nintendo charm that all the consoles have except for the Switch. Just using the Wii U puts a smile on my face, and it’s not nostalgia. I was young enough when the switch came out that I have nostalgia for some switch games. But still, the Wii U has personality, and charm, which is something that not only the switch, but Nintendo as a whole has lacked since the switch released.

The Wii U was basically like the Dreamcast. Both consoles didn't sell very well, both had pretty good games

Tbh it didn't have a lot of games that I was interested in. The only game that stood out to me was sonic & sega all-stars racing transformed even though that's a third party title. The switch has a lot of variety. I have over 60 games. With the wii u I had mario kart 8, mario party 10, mario ultra smash tennis, sonic & sega all-stars racing transformed, and super smash bros. wii u. Now I only have sonic & sega all-stars racing transformed, yoshi's wooly world (got that last year) and mario party 10. I got rid of the other games. I do wanna pick up wii party u someday. I do love the wii backwards compatibility though, so I still get to play my wii games.

Here’s my controversial take: amiibo Festival was fine, it just wasn’t what people wanted for Animal Crossing on the Wii U. My friends and I personally had a lot of fun with it for what it was, a silly lil board game

I think the reason the Wii U failed was its misleading marketing. I don't mean to say Nintendo deliberately misrepresented it, but most of the ads for it put SO much focus on the gamepad that a lot of people thought the Wii U was the gamepad itself, creating the impression that it was either a hybrid system that could be used as either a handheld, or a fully-fledged home console (gee, that sounds awfully familiar), or that it was a new accessory for the Wii, resulting in lots of disappointment when it turned out to be something that, in the would-be customers' eyes, they didn't really need because the Wii was good enough for them.

i was okay with this video til you talked about its game library. Splatoon was also released in 2015 btw. which was a flagship title along with Smash bros for this system. those 2 games alone were enough to make this console "successful. and then there was also Bayonetta 2, mario kart 8 and breath of the wild

guys if you want to buy games on the wii u eshop, the best way to do it is link your nintendo network account from wii u with your nintendo account for switch. Then add funds to your account on the switch store and there is a section in the eshop under your account info where you can merge funds meaning now your funds on wii u and switch is shared

Even though the Wii U's online services will soon be/are already dead, (Rip eShop and Miiverse), the homebrew will save it like all the online Nintendo consoles before it. The good games will still exist it on for a long time and with the existence of things like Pretendo. We can still relieve the old days, albeit in a different way. Wii U will go down as one of the most underappreciated consoles of all time imo, in a similar fashion to the Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast. Long live, the Wii U! And happy 10th birthday

I have to wonder if the Wii-U was trashed by people secretly working for Sony and XBox. It did also come out some time after the Wii Mini, also a similar name to the Wii, except that was a smaller version of the original.

Wii U > Switch any day honestly, plus the switch just feel so much cheaper build wise, I don't see it working in a decade, my Wii U still seems new, despite having gotten that used

It had some redeeming qualities, but even the first party games were sorely lacking.

The only reason I skipped the Wii U and got the PS4 instead is because Nintendo hardly ever gets 3rd party titles. Back in the 6th generation of consoles I regret buying the Wii first instead of the PS3 because I missed out on games like Portal, Dead Space, Red Dead Redemption, just to name a few. Eventually I did get to play these, but later on in the console life cycle. Yup, I grew up in a lower middle class family, couldn't afford more than one console, and I was favoring more the 3rd party titles over what was on the Wii at the time. Now I'm not saying that I hate Nintendo; in fact, I still have my Wii and I do own the Gameboy Advance, DS Lite, and Switch. But here's a tip for every gamer: It's ok to own a Nintendo console BUT if you wanna enjoy 3rd party games, DON'T expect them to come to Nintendo. So Instead, get a Playstation, Xbox, or PC alongside your Nintendo console. So those of you who only have a Switch and are still waiting for Elden Ring to be ported over. Well that's not gonna happen...maybe they might port it over to the next Nintendo console, but chances are it won't run well

Breath of the wild was developed for Wii U but was delayed and ported to Switch as a launch title.

I love the Wii U, but I don't think you made any super compelling arguments here. Should have put more emphasis on the Virtual Console, Wii backwards compatibility, and homebrew scene. As for the first-party Wii U exclusives not on Switch, you failed to mention most of them and just brought up ones that were inferior to their Switch counterparts.

The first party output was great on the wii u and third party titles weren’t too bad. I think that when a game has been properly designed around the hardware it can be utterly brilliant, but so many games it just felt unnecessary

Honestly the Wii U had one of the strongest libraries of games of its generation. It didn't have the most games but the games it had were generally better than the other consoles... Not always but let's put it this way : If you dumped a random collection of Wii U games in one bin and a random collection of Xbox or PS games in another and I just walked up and randomly pulled one out of each, I'd wager the one from the Wii U bin would be better quality than the other.

I was in high school when the Wii U came out? And nobody at school even knew what it was, people only talked about how the ps4 was about to come out and how they wanted gta5. Nintendo was EXTREMELY irrelevant to everyone at the time. I remember some kid even asked me if the Wii U was a Wii add on, he seriously didn’t know.

Wii U was awesome. I didn't even remember it existed since launch and I just bought one to hack.

3rd party devs after making dozens of DS and 3DS games: we don't know what to do with the Wii U Gamepad.

Ya know, I think "wasn't that bad" sums up the experience. A lot of games to like that came EVENTUALLY, but there were so many dry spells and hardware annoyances for me. The approach to controllers as a whole was honestly baffling; you can use Wiimotes, Nunchucks, the gamepad, gamecube controller adapter, wii classic controller, etc, which on the surface is great. But in practice, the way it worked on the system there were so many different titles that would only work with a specific controller, only in a certain mode, or with the gamecube adapter, Smash was the only thing it worked with. Just so much clutter and stuff to think about when playing multiplayer especially, which is kind of what Nintendo platforms are geared to. Also, especially before updates, the menus and UI were just so sluggish in my experience. You're not able to do very much at all when you quick suspend, and it also takes a long time to do it. Not to mention, the biggest thing for me was the load times going into games. Before updates, without exaggerating, Smash Wii U would take upwards of a minute and a half just to start, kind of insane honestly. But with all that said, I think it's a system that's better in retrospect than it was during its present day. Now the library is complete, there are no dry spells without games, the software is just there. Plenty of great homebrew features that fix some of the issues it has. Despite how many problems it had, it was the first generation that I had a system for the entirety of its duration, and the community of people that had it really felt close nit back in the day I guess. Not many people experienced it, and especially as someone that had that as his only current gen system at the time, it does feel kind of special in a way to have experienced it.

This wasn't really a short console generation. 5ish years tends to be the norm for Nintendo to my memory. NES 1996- 1990 SNES 1990 - 1995 N64 1995 - 2001 GameCube 2001- 2006 Wii 2006 -2012 Wii U 2012 - 2017 Switch 2017 - ?? I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to ride the Switch out until 2024.

I hate it when people act like the marketing was the whole reason why the Wii U failed, marketing was a major player in its failure but not the whole reason why. Besides a few notable titles the Wii U had one of the worst game libraries of all time. Also the hardware was outdated with some of the most insanely long load times ever, and it was way to gimmicky, same with the Wii. Please don't spam me with replies saying how I'm wrong, I just want to voice my opinion without an argument taking course.

i actually LOVED nintendo land but that was just my family also, i'm pretty sure hacking a wii u is significantly safer/easier than hacking a switch so if you're into homebrew and stuff, you can try it

I think it was mostly poor marketing and just popular to hate on at the time. Kind of like the playstation vita. Both great consoles.

A bit of a fact check, the Wii U actually sold a lot during the holiday it came out, if I remember correctly it sold 3million units in only a few months, the problem started during the huge game drought during 2013, and the terrible marketing, they really didn't know what to do with the system until like 2014, and around that time it was too late. Another fact check Splatoon came out in 2015. You really need to do a few fact checks before recording your vids lol

To me, the Wii U was never bad in general. Even thought the Wii U didn’t sell as well as I thought, the Wii U is probably one of the best consoles Nintendo has ever made, despite the shitty sales, it had some pretty good games too, like NSMBU, Splatoon, SM3DW, Super Mario Maker, etc. & the best thing about the Wii U that it was backwards compatible with the original Wii. So was the Wii U bad? Short answer is. No, Not at all! The Wii U was a phenomenal console, but Nintendo just throws F*ck you Wii U to the console.

Actually you could upgrade the battery with a bigger one you could of ordered one on there parts and repair store it added 4more hours of play

I still go back to smash for wii u more than I do ultimate. A lot of the wii u versions of these games are better than the switch versions on top of the few remaining wii u exclusives.

It wasn't that bad. I like Devils Third and a few others outside the norm on Wii U. I mostly went First party and Indies with it. I have fun with it but I see why it's marketing, concept and so on made it sell badly. Nintendo Land is well made but it says a lot having Mario or 'sports' for average people to be intrigued it says a lot even if your company name is in the title. The console not the disk production that lasted longer. 2019/2020 or so people forget that so it was supported. The eshops games like Captain U and so on still came out. Shakedown Hawaii was the last physical game for the Wii U. The console still has games being made before the March 2023 date unlike the Vita which did stop games being made and the store is still up. The Switch being smaller surprised me the Gamepad is big but packed and has a grip the Switch is a really thin tablet I wasn't expecting to see almost fit into the Gamepad screen 'almost' well with Joycons it can't but without I think it can. I was intrigued by the Gamepad/dual screen console besides the DS. Not everyone cares for dual screens (but I do) or a Dualshock 4 likely with a touchscreen either same as the touchpad is just a big button for most games. It's games are what they are but solid. GameCube first party have a better spin on things and are better (not played them but from research the ideas there make sense why they stand out) but still. I wish it was less restrictive on how you use dual screens like web browser and game same as the Xbox One with Windows 8 dashboard in 2013 or swapping apps and games is easy not a only the game can run then only the manual can and so on/Series with quick resume for games is really cool. The memory and CPU were limited but still it's a wish Nintendo can allow that at some point. Then again thinking how many used the Smart screen or so with their phone or the PlayStation option of the second screen (Vita/Phone) besides remote play or Off TV Play on their Wii U? The Wii U and Switch are different ideas. Dual screen, handheld and dock. I think they would have done it eventually. Don't did many ways before with the PSP/Vita. If the DS had video out then sure but it didn't. Obviously Nintendo did the Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player for handhelds but for the same system yes it's different. I think storage wasn't an issue when the PS3/360 had either optional or required installs. The PS4/Xbox One have required installs. Nintendo consoles don't ever have required installs. Sure with the Xbox One you can get the icons for games to add to your library if the disk is there while digital you likely need to install it or have it downloading to add it. So I think 8/32GB isn't that bad. Until I used the eshops besides updates I never needed to upgrade my storage same with the Switch besides updates taking up space I don't need it. Sure I get some digital ones are big and require an SD card on the third party end but that's on them for making them big. The way they handle their releases are usually pretty bad I think many times lazy. Doom did it right with multiplayer is a download, singleplayer which is offline on the card. Others are just lazy. That and COD is how much on the disk regardless of 100GB disk sizes yeah so it doesn't matter if they are going to be that lazy.

To be honest, the only reason I like my Wii U more than the Switch is because of Joycon Drift. Mainly that's it, but due to how rampant Drift has become on ALL consoles (Even on the Steam Deck-) Its become such a huge problem, I've started going third party now because of that. Its very scummy not gonna lie. This new joystick configuration they've made as the new "Set Standard" Is absolutely disgusting, and is anti-consumer and obviously planned early obsolescence. I need a controller to last for YEARS. Not 6 months.

Wonderful video. The GameCube walked so the Wii could run, the Wii U walked so the Switch could run. The Wii U was a wonderful Console, backed by terrible marketing and Nintendo failing to distinguish the Wii and Wii U properly. The game library is pretty big for the console, and Wii games look amazing on it, but the games are getting expensive (while some are affordable) Plus, with the E-Shop shutting down soon, it’ll inevitably mean piracy is the only way to get these games.
