Last week we received a call from Ronnie Roadster about the Blown Ardun that he is building for Matt. With speed week finished, and other engines finished up, Matt's engine is next on the list.
We weren't exactly sure what project we were going to work on next, since we have a few to choose from, but Ronnie helped us pick. Matt and Steve picked the body off the frame and stashed it under the DeLorean Roadster until it is needed. Matt then walks us through some of the plans for the build, and we take a closer look at the frame now that it has been sand blasted. We hope to have the body bolted back on by spring!!

That's going to be an awesome hot rod! I guess it pays to still check newspaper ads, it's hard to believe that as little as 15 years ago the classifieds were full of cars for sale and you actually had to go look at the car to see if it was any good. Today it's impossible to sell a vehicle without 50 high resolution photos, a detailed description and two weeks of texting back and forth.

A good start Matt. The thing to beware of, though, is there is no "give" in a tube axle. Running a tube axle with split bones can create a lot of stress. No problem with a beam, but not a good idea with a tube. That yard looks like a great [place to get material from. I will follow this one with interest. All the best. Mart in England.

If I was taking the car to Bonneville or something, chopping it down to tank turrets for windows would make sense, but unless you are under 5 foot and love being stuffed into the trunk of a car, I will never see the point to the chopping of the tops. I like to sit up and be able to see around me.

Just as a note.. Love how you decided to mill the opening from 2" to 2.25".. but PLEASE.. remember that when you are feeding your work INTO the cutter and it is turning in the direction of the cut.. it can VERY EASILY grab your work and do some SERIOUS damage.. that's called CLIMB MILLING.... at the 4:58 mark... It's going to be an amazing looking car when you are done... they all are!!!

I was interested to learn of your clever process for rust proofing the frame. I worked for a tap and die company and we had a process for surface treating taps which involved putting them inside a steam furnace which turned them black, a sort of controlled oxidation. I'm guessing what you did to the frame is a similar process. I wonder, when it comes time to weld on your frame will you have to grind the metal first?

That car is going to be so cool, can't wait to see it progress. Also, as a small business owner WHY would you let Steve cut all that steel with a cut-off wheel and no face shield not even safety glasses, gloves were good. I wouldn't gamble the safety of my employee or my business. Have a GREAT DAY and please be safe.

Steve might be a friend volunteering to help. I know I wouldn't mind being a go-fer for this shop! But I agree about the safety equipment. It's hard to get people to get into the habit, but once formed, people find that the safety gear makes them more comfortable. But it takes all kinds - some folk relish the risk!
