One thing I like about British dramas and comedies is that they are subtle and let you slide into the understanding by paying close attention to detail, unlike American films that have to beat you over the head so you'll be sure to get it.

I've watched this entire movie so many many times and will watch it again and again. This last scene is one of my two favorites. The other is when Sir Robert looks up from the floor to Catherine in the gallery and she leans forward to look back at him. The subtlety throughout this movie is precious, which I love about British movies. Great acting, too.

Great ending. The way he looks at her whenever she turns her back to him. So difficult, as she rightly points out, for him to divulge his true emotions. But he's clearly taken with her and sees her as a force to be reckoned with. It's why he feels he can tease her about her hat, or how he calls her activism a "lost cause." He doesn't believe it, or course. But he knows that saying it will rile her up and elicit a response, which is what he wants.

Yes, Carlos. You caught the key moment. When she turns to walk away from him his eyes really light up but you can only see that for just a moment. FANTASTIC ending!!!!!

Love the way he drops his cigarette and (off screen) crushes it underfoot while he dismisses feminism as "a lost cause," which I think is his true opinion, despite his admiration of her. Hope they do meet again on the floor of Parliament.

He knows very well about a lost cause. He just wins one!!! 😁 😁 😁 And think he was really impress by her ability to stay a woman (with the beautiful hat) and her feminist activity. It's the key of what makes him love her. She's clever like any other man, but know to stay feminin.

I have this movie and I believe the last second was the essence of real Victorian class and style. Notice he doesn't look at her when he says 'do you think so Miss Winslow,[one second pause] how little you know about men.'This dialogue of course was not there in the original Terence Rattigan play. Everything is implied without being shouting about from the rooftops ... And the understanding smile on the face of Kate Winslow- marvellous. Fabulous piece of direction. If anyone finds this DVD please do add it to your collection -it is a classic. I put it on whenever I am feeling blue just to hear the theme music.

Yes, yes, yes! The last seconds of this scene gets me EVERY time! So much communicated with so little dialogue. The eyes of both the actors say so much. @@vdlorenzo2578 to do justice means applying the law correctly. For example, evicting a non-paying tenant with a family is justice for the landlord and it’s easy to do. But to do right is to also find an alternative place for the family to stay and to work out how to improve their financial situation. That is much harder to do but it is right. At least, that is how I understand it.

I love the incidental counter when sparks fly between two fantastic people grow in front of your very eyes. "How we know about each other and yet we pretend how we playable the actor in each of us....plays along the short story within the great play of life. Who writes all these supercilious words without true intent until the Director I stills the emotional intent.and the grand producer put up the money and tells the audience you that you will love it when you will, because it's about you.

He actually treats her as an equal all the way through. Even at the very beginning, when she tells him she smokes, he simply offers her a cigarette, there is no judgement there. He doesn't expect a higher standard from her than the one he sets for himself. Desmond and her fiance may appear friendlier but are much less interested in her point of view, or in explaining themselves to her; Sir Robert, on the other hand, let's her cross examine him, but doesn't force his feelings on her at all. When he says 'it's a lost cause' he echoes what she says earlier, that they haven't got the support in parliament, not that it is a 'wrong' cause. Like when he says they have done right, rather than justice, with the case; he can be very subtle.

I wonder did Sir Robert truly believe what she was fighting for was a lost cause or was he just saying it to get under her skin to shock her about his true feelings which is where her look of surprise . She had preconceived ideas about 'Sir Robert Morton' before she even met him, then she gets to see him in action and has a new found respect. He likes her from the moment he see's her when he takes time to look at her in the mirror in his rooms. She is very self possessed with lots of confidence and the respect of her parents .. she is not a 'young' woman. He is drawn to her because she has ideals and ambition to be 'across the floor' in the house of commons. She is unaware of his feelings for her until the very end when he tells her he likes her saying he will see her again if he has his way 'how little she knows about men'. A David and Goliath story of the boy and the powers that be interwoven with a beautiful love story. I would have loved a sequel of these two moving forward in their relationship set against the backdrop of women's rights and the constrictions of the time, how his love for her would show in his support against the struggles of his own standing in the legal community etc. would been fascinating.
