If you read and enjoyed the books then don't watch this. Absolutely nothing like the books and the producers have seen fit to present Celtic Britons as blacks. It's disgusting.

How come these " historical " epics always follow the same pattern nowadays ? The sets are ridiculous , the storylines are predictable , the acting is cliched and we're always expected to imagine that most ancient Britons , Celts , Saxons , or whatever it happens to be , were black . Can you imagine the outcry if you did a drama about ancient African culture and half the actors were white ?

It’s not meant to be true to life it fiction as this never happened but yes nowadays they do want to make everyone happy but put different colours in Centuries that don’t add up

Why the hell have they got black people there? I’m not racist, but they were not there at that time. You might have had a few hundred in Britain during the Roman era but only as traders and visitors not natives. This is at most 100 years after the Romans left and any people of colour would have left with them. You would’ve been lucky if you found 3 on the entire island. (although doubtful.) The Saxons were doing an ethnic cleansing rampage on the east, driving the native celts out, the west where the Britons are resisting, were not quite as Romanised as the east, meaning they were very tribal, so they would not have accepted many outsiders. Any people of black skin that remained in Britain after the Romans left would’ve found it nearly impossible to survive there for very long.

Actually what we know now about migration is that man emigrated through Europe from Africa. Cheddar Gorge man was black (recently discovered through dna analysis. ) Britain's first Roman Emperor who was black was Severus and he reinforced Hadians Wall...

It's a fiction ... no one Knows if King Arthur was real ... what does it matter the color of the actors skin ??? Go watch God's of Egypt or ghost in the shell ...soothe yer fears.

Also, there was a British war leader called Reothamus who united a bunch of Britain and actually crossed the channel into Gaul to help the Romans against the goths, the Romans betrayed them and abandoned him, and he was killed, but his men buried him in a Grove there of apple trees, which to the day is still known by its ancient name, Avalon. So yes, although it’s been exaggerated and changed, there was definitely a historical basis or several at least for this character.

⁠⁠@@petamalthouse These are historical myths about Britain rinsed by media who desperately want to prove something. In particular, Severus wasn’t black he was N African. Not only was he not black, but he also dismissed an “Ethiopian” soldier from out of his sight during a parade as his dark skin colour was seen as a bad omen (Historian Augusta, Severus 22). Not so multicultural after all…

@petamalthouse false, there has never been a black Emporer. No African facial features or hair on any statue or depiction of him. He was from north Africa - No different from Coptic Egyptians who have more Southern European heritage such as Greek and Italian than Black African. In fact he even dismissed an African soldier as he saw it as a bad Omen and threatened to behead him.

Sorry, its just too hard to get past the anachronistic casting. The desire by audiences to be transported to another time and place by historical drama is natural. This kind of casting just breaks the illusion. It is not racist to say this. It would be ridiculous if a dramatisation of the Mahabharata was full of blond white actors. This is equally ridiculous.

It's amazing how triggered people like you are because someone looks different to you in a fiction... watch God's of Egypt or Ghost in the Shell... you'll feel better ...appropriation in the right direction eh

@@MatthewBretton-cu2el i’m triggered because King Arthur, although probably fictional is representation of my cultural history, the Cornish, which is an ethnic minority and constantly under threat. So yes, when anyone tries to make a mockery of it, of course I get upset, I have a right to be.
