Today, we're going to take a look at a new knife from WinterBlade Co, the Severn, which at first glance feels like another sliding bar knife, but does severnal things differently which make it quite compelling.

Really appreciate the review and hearing your thoughts, Nick - thank you!! :D (The production version will actually have a little bit stiffer detent btw, so good call on that!)

Shabazz is easily the best knife reviewer on KZfaq (maybe to include Cedric and Ada). My struggle with Bryan Winter designs is every one I've taken apart to clean just turns to a jumble of magnets and metal, placed in a zip lock in the back of my closet. Love what you're doing Bryan, but I struggle on the disassembly.

Hey! The only magnet on the Severn is the thumb stud - check out Nick's disassembly.. Cheers! :D

Ya these are not the kinda knives I risk disassembling, learned my lesson from my X-Tao and most button locks: some knives are just better off not being taken apart like the cutlery version of Humpty Dumpty
@jpolhamus714 ай бұрын
Send it back to winterbladeco Bryan will assemble it for you. I had the same problem hell Bryan spent 4 hours trying to help me reassemble and in the end I had to have him reassemble it . I can reassemble them with no problems now.

Just shows the immense skill and talent it took to design and build this knife from the get go :)

Nick! I was desperately searching for an Ontario Rat 2 disassembly/assembly video, came across yours from 7 years ago, and it was gold. Took apart, cleaned, lubed and reassembled my first knife tonight with your good guidance. Ever since, I've been binging on your knife reviews. Love your style and your channel. Thanks so much, my friend. Subscribed!

If a guy who measures things in Delica, has a Fibonacci wedding ring, sounds like an informant to a 1930's private eye and wears an Omega dive watch to go with his rubber Batman mask says that somebody is weird I believe it.

“The person responsible for that has been sacked.” Appreciate the Holy Grail credits reference. It is kind of a møøse of a knife, after all.

A while back, you talked about how there are so many good channels for knife reviews, and it influenced the way you looked at your own channel. But Nick, you still have the best channel. What I love most about your channel is the disassembly video's. Keep up the good work

Always good to see the legend return. I wouldn’t call a knife that follows Demko pricing “budget-friendly” though. ;)

I wish I had ordered one when they were doing the preorders. I stared at them for a while but ultimately decided against. I haven't picked up a WinterBlade yet but it's on my short list.

I like the proportions and the Severn more than the Factor, but the harmonic resonance of the Factor’s deployment is mightily missed. Still, I think I would sooner get the green Severn-if it was available, just because it seems more useful and does look a little nicer. But, Snecx’s Superlock is already patent free or something like that, so anyone could use that for a spine locking knife. To wit, I’d love to see you take a look at the S35VN or the new lightning looking Damascus on the Vision FG.

G'day Mr. Shabaz. We love it when you disassembling a knife. You do it entertainingly.! And only The Man will notice any possibilities that would make a knife better. "Bacon Lasering" & "Bacon Damascus"? Is that a new word/thing?? Cheers cobber from Australia.

Considering that little coil springs are so easy to get (they're in ballpoint pens), you'd think knife makers would have been using them instead of omega springs. Spyderco messed around with that idea, but sadly didn't really do anything with it other than the Manix, really...

Kinda wish Benchmade would license this from Winters

For me, the word that comes to mind regarding Nick's videos is substantive. He digs into another level, delivery is intelligent and entertaining, my wife has little interest in my knife hobby and she really enjoys watching these. I owe a big thanks to Shabazz. I value his opine before I buy. This Severn looks like a pretty cool folder but for this blade shape, I'm a dinosaur, I'll stick with my Serge Panchenko Trisect where detent is not an issue with frame lock and the Trisect action is one the best I own.
@IlliniDog014 ай бұрын
I have one pre-ordered. That weak detent has me a bit concerned
@CloudyShinobi4 ай бұрын
Why did u say only the early factors had that fantastic ting? I just got a b3 from the preorder after ten freaking months mind you, and as long as you’re not touching the carbon fiber deployment part when it locks open it makes an auditorily addictive “ting” like the cutlery version of a tuning fork 😅 It’s definitely grown on me a lot, but it could’ve stood to have a bit more faux-detent feel, by increasing the magnetic strength by 30%
@christianklein34034 ай бұрын
That lock looks really close to a Demko shark lock.

@pauljosephbuggle37224 ай бұрын
The Severn is a river in England and "made overseas" is a term relative to where a viewer might be watching from. But this is the kind of thing one would expect from someone who absolutely did not get the whole historical vibe of the Otter Mercator knife which indeed would be a more useful EDC knife than this Magpie.

Dumbest comment I've read all month. It's called innovation.
@Mo.89.4 ай бұрын
Well the month isn’t even a third of the way through so that doesn’t say much. And innovation is improving on what we have. The lock is well done, the design and ergos and everything else with this are not.
@CorruptionManX6 күн бұрын
@@Mo.89.Even the lock, I can't say if it's well made. Only a stress test could tell.
