What is at the Heart of Wisdom? For over 1300 years The Heart Sutra has served as a core text for many lineages of Buddism throughout the world. It represents essential aspects of the Mahayana path, with Emptiness at the center. Within it is woven key philosophical questions for understanding our minds and the way we truly are in the world. It serves as a map for how embodied wisdom can transform everything.
We explore this important work with a deep dive into the text itself. It is common for Buddhist texts to be layered in meaning. The Heart Sutra is no different, weaving vital insights into how we interpret, and misinterpret, the world. Within its lines, it presents multiple foundational teachings needed for a Bodhisattva to be with the suffering in the world. It is a text that never stops teaching, always revealing deeper levels of practice. This talk hopes to inspire the Bodhisattva in each of us so that we may truly benefit others.
Carlyle Coash holds a Master's in Buddhist Studies from Naropa University. He has spent many years working in end-of-life care and is a Certified Meditation Instructor since 1999. He has a passion for exploring the practical and real impact of Buddhist teachings in the world and in our relationship with all beings.
