People sometimes say “Good luck / with that…”, and sometimes it’s sincerely meant with goodness or fortune, while other times it’s a disguise for cursing people to their demise (for various psychological reasons of projection, I presume). I find it’s not always so easy to know the intention behind such a short quick-witted phrase. But I am certain that either way the correct and best response is always a sincere ‘Thank you’. This testifies to one’s own authenticity and sincerity, leading by example towards such virtuous ideals or goals It’s also interesting how luck, or Loki, might not necessarily always have much or anything to do with this saying at all, as a blessing or a curse (knowing what we know of Loki, however, it’s more likely charged with the undertones of a curse). Take dice, for example (like in the boardgame, Solaris, that I designed which combines reconfigured poker & chess; link below; currently seeking publishers/sponsors etc., and has been submitted to the Canadian TV show, Dragons’ Den, for the 2023 season). How do we know it’s not actually the Holy Spirt of Christianity working through dice or cards etc.? I suppose it all depends on the results and one’s own worldview. I've emersed myself into the philosophies of the Trika and Krama traditions of Kashmiri Shaivism for about 3 years now and I feel that it illuminates the trinitarian mysteries of Odin/Shiva/Hermes/Toth that befuddle the Western seeker pained by Christianity's claims of Trinity. In short, I'm not convinced that writers like Snorri were putting a christian overlay on non-christian mysticism but hiding the mysticism in a way that the average Christian would write off. Tattvas 3-5 are Lord Sadashiva that works through the the feminine power of will Iccha-Shakti, Lord Ishvara that works through the feminine power of knowledge Jnana-Shakti, and Lord Suddha-Vidya that works through the feminine power of acting Kriya-Shakti. These masc/fem (consciousness/power) dualities are universal forces that are beyond human intelligence (Buddhi, tattva 14), but pervade all but the first two tattvas. In-short, the saying that consciousness uses our intelligence to know itself applies here and is why manifest reality cannot be omniscient. Omniscience is infinite by definition and would be incapable of localizing or categorizing, so if Odin is manifest, he cannot be omniscient. I completely understand the distructive nature of seeking knowledge on familial relations too. I can't speak for European life, but in America "expert culture" overlooks the importance of relationships and destroys many families and communities through arrogance. I'm guilty, as evidenced by the above. Knowledge is great, knowledge is power, knowledge destroys, but without relations, there can be no renewal.

If Odin was the omniscient being described in later writings, he would never have had to do all the self sacrificing and deception of Jotuns in order to obtain that esoteric ancient knowledge. 👌Wow! So many orbs flew over your black coat on this video. I have had my first experience with the energy of Odin albeit I didn't know much about the diety formally so I was surprised when this heavy energy overtook my body and I blurted out Odin. Then looking at energy moving on raindrops in a tree I was spun feverishly out of my body and pulled up like a portal before being back in my body moments later. Now I'm looking into his persona and seeing those orbs was confirmation for me. ♡

I think the lesson in Odin's pursuit of knowledge is that knowledge is such a thing that requires a character that can't be too fond of comfort and is willing to transgress social conventions, norms, and roles to acquire, knowledge that grants one true insight into the nature of reality and human nature and subsequently the power to shape one's reality to ones favor with this insight. I also think a lesson in Odin's pursuit of knowledge there is no sacrifice too great to acquire the power to determine one's own fate. Another lesson from Odin's pursuit of knowledge related to my first point and maybe at best a reiteration of the first lesson, pragmatic knowledge- (knowledge you can affect and shape the material world and human evolution with) is sacrilegious, thus the pursuit of knowledge for Odin is the very basis of the European Scientific institutions that gave rise to the Faustian Man and Profane and Inert Cosmos of modernity.

Arith, thank you so much for this and all your other videos. Just to let you know how far you're teaching's reach, I am a 51-year-old firefighter who lives outside of New Orleans in the US. Thanks for the video, very interesting analysis. What I've gathered while reading into norse mythology is that Odin himself is purely driven by fear. He asked himself multiple times why he is the way he is, even doubting his methods in acquiring knowledge from time to time. It's the fear of loosing Idunns apples and his (and his kin, the ase) eternal life. Losing his kin due to a war to the vanir. Losing his control due to a greater knowledge possessed by another being (mostly the giants). He told Heimdall to produce half human, half ase people so they grew strong and could defend the ase during ragnarok. In Odins stories we can learn many things. Even his ultimate pursue towards gaining all knowledge couldn't save him in the end. His fears lead him to actions, sealing his own downfall. He couldn't impede his own fate because he tried to change the world instead of changing his own self. This is in my opinion the greatest knowledge odin himself never could attain.

Always great to hear your insights, for me, especially regarding Odin Ive always struggled with Odin. Many others have said that "Odin is how you find paganism" and other such things, which although i never believed (because i came to Paganism through Thor) it did at times gnaw at me As i grow older and more sure of what makes me call myself a Pagan of course i care a lot less about what others think makes one a Pagan, by which i mean i stay certain of my belief, but i do like to hear others I also long ago abandoned the idea that to be a "true pagan" i must know and respect "all" the Gods I mostly just chat with Thor or Sif, and assume if it is someone else i should be "speaking" to, they will help me connect, and that seems to work for me It is, of course, Odin's negative aspects that always made me keep him at a distance, yet at the same time i always wanted to embrace him because i too seek wisdom But it was also my understanding that what we think of as "the gods" is a construct - a very important one of course - but a construct nonetheless Without such a construct it becomes very hard to know any of the gods Much love to you Arith, and all seekers of Wisdom and Pagan understanding, wherever you may be Keep vigilant, the world is changing and only those who can see the truth can possibly try to defend it, we need to stop fighting with others who see the world differently, and make them our allies, we willl need them in the next few years

Could it be that the later Odin is not going against the earlier Odin? Meaning that he was a seeker of knowledge. But by the later times, he'd found it. He had accomplished his goal and become what he sought to be. Someone with unlimited knowledge.

Incredibly thought provoking at the end. I can think of many people, indeed many cultures around the world, who would benefit from this introspection about self-aggrandizement and seeking knowledge... but none the less, applicable immediately for me as well. I've always strongly felt that it's foolish to spend too much time studying history here in our day, because at the core - it is belief. It's scripture, essentially, and the fact that sources correlate isn't verification of any kind at all - if anything it just makes finding the truth harder... ...but there are a lot of people who buy in, because they expect it of themselves and others, not to question, to seek the right answer, and stand above others after they attain it - as a symbol themselves.

Odin has always been for me not a god of the natural world, like of the sky or water or earth, but a god of the inner self, the mind, knowledge, madness, humor, and sacrifice. He is a god of the absurd. A god of existential dread, and a figure of a young man's desire for experience placed over the backdrop of old age. He is the yin yang, youth and senility, life and death, both at times childish and petty while also fatherly and wise. He is both man and god, self-affirming and self-annihilating.

Hey. Just saw your last post on FB. I'm sorry to hear it. Both about the virus as well as those that have left you. May Odin give you strength to do what you must. I was going to FB in search of ways to sit down for a chat from time to time, if you have such liberty with your free time, of course. I have reached a blockade on how the Gods, or Fates, affect a person's life, thus hopefully finding a clearer picture over the duties, responsibilities or what other attachments may come, of one interfering in the first person's life, one way or another, and thus interfering (????) in divine will. Tibetan cultures talk constantly about karma, and, even though I've read about this important consequence years ago, only last summer did the realisation actually came: every person's karma is a result of their life so far (and maybe more). Interfering in one's life, to help or alleviate, means interfering with their karma. It left me transfixed. What implications are there? I've read somewhere, long time ago, may be utter bs as far as I can attest to it, that in native american cultures, when you save someone's life you became responsible for them. And I still remember not understanding what "responsible for them" might mean. Now my beautiful brain asks me "Didn't that actually refer to taking upon yourself, as being done by you, any acts committed by that person from that day onwards, be them good or bad? Or on the contrary, if the Fates said they should die, and you save their life, you've created a disruption that will only extrapolate until natural order is restored, and all other threads of destinies affected by your action fall back on track?" and the answers there hopefully lead to a better understanding of how important are our choices? For now I hold the belief that we have little to no choice when it comes to the path we walk on in life. The path is already laid out in front of us. How we walk the path, that's up to us. But that's hardly something new. I need more answers. Yes, I know, I am also one of the many who come and ask things of you, and for that I do apologise. I truly wish we had met at better times. Wisdom is about using our intelligence intelligently, and if we are using our intelligence intelligently, then we will do that which harms none and do the will that must be done, for it is our responsibility if we are to have a future.
