I saw this productions all three years in a row Roseanne, Eartha Kitt and Joanne Worley as the witch . . . I have to say Eartha Kitt was the best . . . that is when they added the jitterbug number back in the show. Roseanne was good . . . Joanne Worley was too comical and ad libed way too much . . . although when she melted . . . she popped back up to waist level and scared the audience and melted again . . . it made everyone jump . . . that was kind of cool.

The Wizard told them to bring him the broomstick and he'll grant their requests and then when they do so, he tells them to come back tomorrow. The reason he did all that was because he didn't think they'd be able to get the broomstick and hoped they'd think so as well and give up, but it didn't go that way. He was now backed into a corner and knew the only way out it was to leave Emerald City, which is why he told them to come back tomorrow so he'd have time to leave before the truth came out.

@jacktodd1 I saw Ertha Kit in the San Francisco run. Joann Worley did it in the Pantages run in Los Angeles. While they were both good, Ertha Kit was the best.
