Great content, brings back the nostalgia Thrones where I could dive deeper into the show! I think a secondary character breakdown would be pretty cool to show also. Keep up the great work this is my go to channel for The Witcher

I've found all of your Netflix Witcher videos very helpful, I like how you went into details and foreshadowing in previous episodes, some of which wouldn't be obvious to every viewer. Really hope you'll continue in season 2.

I wouldn't mind super in depth lore videos... Stuff like break downs of all the monsters we've seen, as well as the history of the kingdoms, stuff like that. I'm not sure if there is canon information about all that stuff, but if there is, I would definitely watch videos about that.

The thing about this is, the author deliberately never provided or even endorsed any map. He made fun of derivative immitators of Tolkien who write massive sagas and start with drawing a map. Originally he wanted a total freedom in writing short stories about made up places, but even when embarking on his own saga he refused to settle down details of the geography. To be honest I never needed a map when i read it and it felt more realistic. Back in the day of knights and wizards, and dragons stealing sheep, regular folk didn't really have much of a clue of what is behind the next hill, let alone the shape of the continent. Even traveling tradesmen didn't use maps. They just followed the main tracts. Redania is somewhere up north from Temeria, take this road and watch out for the monsters.
@Phalvesaurus
@Phalvesaurus 4 жыл бұрын
Milo Bem it is cool in a sense but on the other end left me bloody confused for majority of the time on names of places and even people. Having a basic understanding of the map in the books would of made it easier. All I knew originally was mostly about Cintra and Temeria was somewhere north of that with Foltest ruling there. Everything else was a blur

Great that he didn't want to be super derivative of Tolkien (no one else could really pull off that method of world-building quite like him anyways). But now that the world has structure, characters, kingdoms, and whatnot, it's nice to look at a map as an observer. Agree with not knowing everything while reading the books tho!

Imagine how cool would it be if we got a game in like 2030 in which we're able to explore the whole map. I guess we don't have to be able to come back to witcher 3 locations but it would be a huge plus.

the witcher world map has quite the uncanny resemblance to medieval Occitania or Aquitaine in France. Atlantic ocean to the west, celtics from the northwest (skellige), vizima could be Nantes or Bordeaux. Paris would be redania's capital Tretogor and Zaragosa, Spain could be Nazair, Andorra would be Toussaint and The blue mountains would be in Geneva and Switzerland in general. and Kaer Morhen would be somewhere in Luxembourg. What do you guys think?

With Nilfgaard being so fucking huge, how could Calanthe make fun of them?!? Seriously, even if they were in a state of turmoil she should have shown a little more tact T.T
@TheLastLlama
@TheLastLlama 4 жыл бұрын
Well because at the time their ruler was seen as a joke, and the episode where we see Calanthe making fun of the Nilfgaard noble at the betrothel is 13 years before the fall of Cintra. Once the new ruler Emhyr comes to power, Nilfgaard becomes a much greater threat. Calanthe is still stuck in her old mindset though it seems, and severely under estimates them. That was her character flaw, she was very arrogant and prideful.

So what's to the west and east of the continent? Is it unexplored land?
@TheLastLlama
@TheLastLlama 4 жыл бұрын
Well to the South of the Continent, below Nilfgaard and across the seas are countries called Ofir and Zangvebar. We see some Oferi traders in The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone DLC, but hardly anything is known about these countries. Nilfgaard has more info on them because they are closer than the Northern Realms. On the east side of the continent are Zerrikania and Haakland and the Korath desert, but nothing is known past these places. Also, nothing is known about what is across the ocean to the West of the continent.

No one knows, even though he is called Geralt of Rivia, he isn't actually from Rivia. So I guess you could say he is from Kaer Morhen in Kaedwen, as that is where he spent most of his life growing up.
