Simply put, amazing. The mind behind Braid has done it again. Thoughtful, intelligent, & damn challenging. I haven't completed it myself but I still can't stop playing.

I want a physical edition.

Sometimes the most entertaining experiences can be found in the most simplest games. No saving the universe from big baddies. No high stakes. Just a calm and relaxing game.

This has got to be one of the greatest reviews you guys have EVER done. Also, for a puzzle game, it's great that got someone that could truly appreciate the difficulty and the subtle beauty of the game. If it was one of your more "simple minded" reviewers, they'd probably get frustrated and not appreciate it as much. Puzzle games aren't exactly my thing, but this great review makes me want to give it a try! Bravo!

People complaining about 10/10 Its not for casual gamers. Its for people with a *brain*. People who like to think. You know, *intelligent* people who like things other than pew pew.

i guess this game was created for very intelligent people who can solve puzzles for 50-100 hours. I can not imagine how great and work is put here. It is without any doubt masterpiece. IGN is completely correct here

Funny how The Order 1886 was an action adventure game that took 7-10 hours to beat but The Witness is a puzzle game that takes up to 70 hours to beat.

The main con that I'd be able to imagine is that this might become pretty repetitive. This might be completely wrong, of course and will probably vary from person to person.

It's hard to believe that I've been waiting for this game for almost 3 years since the ps4 reveal! So glad the extra time spent in development was worth it, definitely picking this up tomorrow. 😄

Had not even heard the name of this game before. It pooped into my subscription box so i checked and what i see is 10/10 masterpiece. That's just amazing!

Genuinely curious: How does 100 hours of maze puzzles not get boring? I want to get this game for PS4 but worry I will get bored. But it is getting great reviews so what makes it so great?

The thing about the witness is that it is a work of art. Jonathan blow is an artist to say the least and he put his absolute heart and soul into this game. He made the game the way he wanted to make it with out being swayed in any way by other people's opinions. He was able to completely shut off the world and create something that is, in my opinion, incredible. With the help of so many game designers and studios out there it is very often forgotten that video games is a form of art. One of which that is hardly ever acknowledged as a piece of art given the "artists" (game designers) obsession with their games being fun and playable and sellable. The vast majority of games out there were created and are being created for the soul purpose making money. OR games are being created by people who truly love creating games BUT money is and has and will ALWAYS play a role, however small that role is, in the creation of a game. Making it easier, more "fun" for the general gaming audience thus being able to sell more copies and in turn making the creator(s) of the game more money. Jonathan blow is an honest man making honest games with out the help of money constantly tapping him on the shoulder. He created a game more innocent and beautiful than any other game out there that I have ever seen. Being able to focus your entire mind and soul on creating something without distraction from ANYTHING is a true skill that this world has completely forgotten. There are very VERY few people out there that are able to maintain perfect artistic flow over the course of such a long time. Jonathan blow made a game that he, as an artist, wanted to make and it breaks my heart to see the pure, profound, innocent, and absolute genius artistic qualities that this game masterfully represents fly over so many people's heads.

No cons? I can't believe that considering what I've heard from other people who have played it.

This game is amazing! God the puzzles at times blow my mind and help me understand and even teach me almost poetic ideas the compliment the visual design of the game itself.

Wow I didn't even know this game existed. The only reason I know now is because it's free in March

40-50 hours? There is no way that this would not get boring for such a long time span. The game looks great but I can't imagine that the gameplay can justify such a long game without feeling like a chore.

My favorite game genre is of mystery and puzzles, getting this game for sure.

For those getting upset about the 10/10, you need to ask yourself, what would you do to make the game better? A game, no matter the genre, deserves a 10/10 if there is nothing you can add to it to make it better.

This game is like something out of some of my dreams. All these beautiful different things all in a limited space like an island.

I have just watched Jonathon Blow's presentation in 2011 about indie gaming and how he used prototyping and even he can't make a game these leads another game which was Braid in that case. He also talked about his new prototypes. he was making art and music games to express yourself for a game play but didn't worked out but he wanted to use these ideas in further projects I like his idea and try to find out. I was wondering if he did anything about it and I find out these. I don't know why but when I saw 10 points I was kind of proud :)

the Braid guy did it again

The Witness is the perfect example that demonstrates the whole "try it before you have an opinion about it" idea. When Johnathan Blow first demoed this game on Sony's stage almost three years ago, I thought to myself, "how can drawing a line from one end to another be interesting?" And watching all these reviews still gives me the feeling. But listening to the people reviewing the game makes me want to just shut up and try it. I haven't seen a review below a 9 so far. Well done John.

I can buy a maze puzzle book from Dollar Tree. We used to do Mazes in kindergarten. How can 80 hours of mazes get a 10?

She forgot to mention how the gameplay doesn't integrate into the word at all. The world is beautiful but not mysterious because you already know what you are going to get, more line puzzles. That is not a mystery. A truly great game is one where the gameplay, design, and the narrative combine in a natural way to present an overall cohesive experience. And this game does not do that, at all. In fact, it literally takes you out of the world only to put you in a line puzzle. Like why even have the world? And lastly it is not fun. All good games should at least provide some sort of emotional fulfillment and this game provides none because there is no driving narrative that gives everything context. There is no narrative and very little context given. It's a classic case of style over substance and at best deserves an 7/10. To anyone reading this I hope you understand that this is not a rant. This is an informed critique of the game, explaining why it doesn't deserve a 10/10
